The live-action movie has apparently been described as production house A24's most expensive and most ambitious project so far.

With the Elden Ring live-action adaptation’s full cast list having been recently revealed, a new report by Hollywood Reporter has also revealed that the project’s production budget will allegedly be over $100 million, making it the largest and most ambitious under A24. Along with this, the production schedule is reportedly slated to involve 100 days of principal photography before post-production work begins.

The cast list for the Elden Ring movie includes Nick Offerman (The Last of Us, Margo’s Got Money Troubles), Ben Whishaw (Peter Hujar’s Day, This is going to Hurt), Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace), and Emma Laird (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, A Haunting in Venice), among others. A24 has also confirmed that the film will hit theaters on March 3rd, 2028.

While these details might be coming out just now, a report from earlier this month has indicated that principal photography on the film may have already started some time ago. An Elden Ring fan managed to discover that some of the filming was happening close to their house, and was able to grab a few videos revealing a set that looks like a ruined Church of Marika. While more precise details about the location haven’t been revealed, another report has indicated that it was taking place in England’s Windsor Great Park, which has been noted as the filming location for projects like Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The Elden Ring movie adaptation was officially confirmed all the way back in May 2025. A24 is producing the project, with Alex Garland – known for his work on projects like 28 Days Later, 28 Years Later, and Dredd – taking the role of director and writer. George R.R. Martin, who had previously worked with FromSoftware to flesh out the world and story of Elden Ring, is also involved with the film as its producer, alongside Vince Geradis, Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich.

No details about the story of the film have been revealed as of yet, including whether or not it will include the in-game protagonist – the Tarnished One – or if it will instead focus on one the game’s many other characters, like Ranni, for example. Garland had revealed that his pitch to Bandai Namco for the film adaptation involved an “epic” 160-page draft, accompanied by 40 pages of images.

He also confirmed that he is a fan of the open-world RPG, and in an interview, discussed the fact that Malenia, Blade of Miquella, was the hardest boss fight in the entire game.

“It’s Malenia who’s the tough one. I’m now on my seventh playthrough of that game,” he said. “I’ve leveled up, I’ve got lots of juice, and a cool sword, and stuff like that, and I just throw myself at them again, and again, and again, and again. That was the technique I learned with Dark Souls,” he said. “It’s not that you get better, it’s more like monkeys and typewriters. You just keep doing it, and eventually, one day they’re dead.”

Other notable members of the film's cast include Kit Connor (Warfare) and Peter Serafinowicz of Guardians of the Galaxy fame.

The film adaptation of FromSoftware’s seminal open-world RPG Elden Ring has been revealed. According to IGN, the movie will be headlined by Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Civil War, and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery fame) and Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die) among others. A24 has also confirmed that it will be coming to theatres on March 3rd, 2028.

It will also feature Nick Offerman (The Last of Us, Parks and Recreation) and Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy). Check out the full cast list below. It is worth noting that, while we now know the actors involved with the film project, we still don’t know which characters they will be playing.

The film adaptation of Elden Ring was officially announced in May last year, with A24 handling production work and Alex Garland serving as director and writer. The project will also feature the involvement of A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin as producer alongside Vince Geradis, Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich.

Garland has revealed himself to be a fan of the game and discussed the fact that Malenia, Blade of Miquella, was the hardest boss fight in Elden Ring in an interview.

“It’s Malenia who’s the tough one. I’m now on my seventh playthrough of that game. I’ve leveled up, I’ve got lots of juice, and a cool sword, and stuff like that, and I just throw myself at them again, and again, and again, and again. That was the technique I learned with Dark Souls,” he said. “It’s not that you get better, it’s more like monkeys and typewriters. You just keep doing it, and eventually, one day they’re dead.”

He had also revealed that his main pitch for the Elden Ring film adaptation involved an “epic” 160-page draft, which included 40 pages of images.

Earlier this month, a fan had seemingly figured out one of the filming locations and, since it was close to their home, decided to record a couple of videos. While we didn’t get too many details about the Elden Ring film from these videos, the remains of a Church of Marika were clearly visible.

In the meantime, Elden Ring remains available to play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Nintendo Switch 2 release of the base game and its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is planned, with pre-orders having recently popped up on Amazon for $79.99.

Elden Ring film adaptation full cast:

The pair of videos on TikTok have excited Elden Ring fans since we get a look at a real-life version of a statue of Marika.

With work on the Elden Ring movie adaptation proceeding relatively silently, fans have wondered how many of its iconic characters will be depicted. One such fan, however, has seemingly visited the film’s set and has posted a couple of videos on TikTok, sparking excitement among other fans. The videos arrive courtesy of Twitch streamer Throxtv and provide our first look at the ruins of a Church of Marika.

The streamer said through messages on Discord that the set was just a few minutes from where they live. They didn’t quite reveal any precise location, but it’s believed that the shooting is taking place somewhere in England. As caught by PC Gamer, a third video was posted on TikTok, revealing that a trap had been placed over the set. “Hahahaha, people think it might be AI. I’m posting another video today. I went back today and got more footage,” they said.

PC Gamer’s report also points to the film’s production taking place near Windsor Great Park, which the publication has referred to as a popular filming location for all sorts of productions. Among other things, the location has seen the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The live-action movie adaptation of Elden Ring was officially announced back in May 2025. A24 is handling production on the project with Alex Garland—known for his work as director on Civil War and Warfare—serving as its director and writer. George R.R. Martin is also involved, serving as a producer, alongside Vince Geradis, Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich.

Considering the nature of Elden Ring’s main story, the plot of the movie is still shrouded in mystery. However, Garland had revealed in an interview with The New Yorker last year that he had prepared an “epic” 160-page draft, along with 40 pages full of images, which serve as the on-spec script (which Garland used to pitch the movie adaptation to Bandai Namco).

In an interview with IGN, Garland has also revealed that he finds Malenia, Blade of Miquella, to be the hardest boss fight in Elden Ring. “It’s Malenia who’s the tough one. I’m now on my seventh playthrough of that game. I’ve leveled up, I’ve got lots of juice, and a cool sword, and stuff like that, and I just throw myself at them again, and again, and again, and again. That was the technique I learned with Dark Souls,” he continued. “It’s not that you get better, it’s more like monkeys and typewriters. You just keep doing it, and eventually, one day they’re dead.”

Elden Ring was released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S back in 2022. FromSoftware is also working on bringing the open-world RPG to the Nintendo Switch 2. In the meantime, the other platforms can also check out the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

The director wants to find a balance between making Death Stranding accessible for newcomers while still having something new for fans.

Any time a movie adaptation of a video game is announced, questions often arise about whether it will retell the same stories we’ve already experienced or offer something new. Similar questions came up when an A24-produced adaptation of Death Stranding was announced. During the recent 10th Anniversary livestream from earlier this week, Hideo Kojima, along with movie director Michael Sarnoski, confirmed that the Death Stranding movie will be telling its own original story rather than retelling the stories we’ve experienced in the games.

Sarnoski described the story of the movie as one that would capture the soul and themes of the game while still telling a completely new story that we haven’t seen before. Through this story, he noted that we would get to explore new characters as well.

“I think, with this project, we really want to capture the soul of the game, capture the themes of the game, but tell a story you haven’t seen in that world and explore characters you haven’t seen before, and find all of that scope and all of those incredible real locations, but also find all of those nuanced characters and just do justice to this on a macro and micro scale,” said Sarnoski (via IGN).

He also spoke about trying to find the right balance of telling a completely original story while still taking place in the same universe that was already depicted in the games. Through the movie, Sarnoski wants to make the world of Death Stranding more accessible to those who might not have already played the games, while also giving something new to fans of the series as well.

“We’re trying to find another story that you’ve never seen in this same universe that is both accessible to people that have never played these games before but will also give something to people that know the games really well,” Sarnoski explained. “I think finding that balance and finding a way to tell a human story in this world that captures everything that we love about it, as well as being able to stand on its own two feet, is really the goal.”

Kojima had previously spoken about the Death Stranding movie earlier this year, and noted that Sarnoski was a good choice for directing the adaptation, thanks to being smart and having good taste. During the same episode of his Koji10 radio show, he also said that it is going to be “an unbelievable and strange film”.

The movie adaptation of Death Stranding was first announced all the way back in 2022. It’s co-produced by Kojima along with Barbarian executive producer Alex Lebovici. Along with the two, Kojima Productions US and Allan Ungar serve as executive producers, with funding coming from Hammerstone Studios.

The involvement of A24 was announced back in 2023. The company is known for having produced critically-acclaimed movies across a wide variety of genres with films like Everything Everywhere All at Once, Uncut Gems, Hereditary and Midsommar.

Alex Garland of Civil War and Warfare fame will direct and write the live action adaptation, which is being co-produced by A24 and Bandai Namco.

After the critical and commercial acclaim that Elden Ring saw, there was little doubt that the IP wasn’t going to fade into the background anytime soon, and sure enough, we’re continuing to see it major steps forward in its efforts to expand. Publisher Bandai Namco, for instance, has officially announced that it is developing a live action adaptation of the FromSoftware-developed action RPG in collaboration with producer A24.

The Elden Ring film will be directed by Alex Garland, best known as the director of Civil War and Warfare. Garland will also serve as writer on the film. A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, who wrote and crafted the lore for the Elden Ring game, will serve as a producer on the film. He will be joined by Vince Gerardis, as well as Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich from DNA.

Elden Ring is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It launches for the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime later this year, with a specific release date currently unannounced. A multiplayer spinoff, Elden Ring Nightreign, launches May 30.

On his radio show, Hideo Kojima also spoke about director Michael Sarnoski, and how he doesn't seem like the typical Hollywood person.

While a movie based on Kojima Productions game Death Stranding is being produced by A24, few details about the adaptation have been revealed so far. On a new episode of his radio show Koji10, series creator Hideo Kojima has revealed that the movie adaptation will be “an unbelievable and strange film”.

According to X user Genki_JPN, Kojima referred to director Michael Sarnoski as a nice person and the right director for the movie. He also said that Sarnoski isn’t like a typical Hollywood person.

“He says Director Michael Sarnoski is smart, has good taste and is a very nice person so is happy he can direct the film,” posted Genki_JPN. “He says Michael properly played Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid 1 and was going to play MGS2 and MGS3 as well but Hideo Kojima stopped him. Hideo Kojima said he doesn’t seem like a typical Hollywood person.”

For context, Michael Sarnoski was brought on to direct the A24 Death Stranding project earlier this month. Sarnoski has previously worked on quite a few movies, including A Quiet Place: Day One, Pig, and upcoming movie The Death of Robin Hood. Alongside Sarnoski, Lars Knudsen and Ari Aster’s Square Peg have also joined the team as co-producers for the movie.

A24’s involvement in the production of the Death Stranding movie was revealed all the way back in 2023. A24 has a history of producing indie movies that manage to get quite a bit of critical acclaim. Some of the movies produced by the company include Everything Everywhere All at Once, Lady Bird, and The Whale. The company also has quite a few critically-acclaimed horror movies under its belt, such as Hereditary,The VVitch, and Midsommar.

“A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative,” said Kojima when announcing the partnership with A24 for the movie.

“I have been attracted to their creations and they have even inspired my own work. Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what Kojima Productions has been doing for the last 8 years. Now, we are making a Death Stranding movie together. There are a lot of ‘game adaptation films’ out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the games, but our film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.”

A report from back in 2023 also revealed that Kojima is taking a hands-on approach to the production of the Death Stranding movie. His involvement in the movie includes producing, supervising, plotting, look, design, and content.

In the meantime, Kojima Productions is gearing up for the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The game, developed exclusively for the PS5, will be coming out on June 26.

The independent production company weirdly confirmed its involvement in the movie with a merch listing on its website.

Kojima Productions announced last year that it had partnered with Hammerstone Studios to officially begin development of a Death Stranding film. Now, another major player that will be involved with the project has been revealed.

Independent entertainment company A24 – which has produced films like Everything Everywhere All at Once, Uncut Gems, Lady Bird, and The Whale – has confirmed that it will be producing the Death Stranding film. Weirdly enough, it did so through a merch listing.

On its official online store, on a listing for a Death Stranding A24 shirt, the company writes, “It’s official: we’ve partnered with Kojima Productions on the live-action feature film adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s acclaimed video game, Death Stranding.”

Kojima Productions has also published an official announcement of its collaboration with A24.

“A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other,” Kojima Productions boss and Death Stranding game director Hideo Kojima said. “The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative. I have been attracted to their creations and they have even inspired my own work. Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what Kojima Productions has been doing for the last 8 years. Now, we are making a Death Stranding movie together. There are a lot of ‘game adaptation films’ out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.”

Earlier this year, Kojima confirmed that he was “deeply involved in producing, supervising, plotting, look, design, and content” of the film, but wouldn’t be directing it.

Kojima has also said that the film will be “taking a direction that nobody has tried before with a movie adaptation of a game.” Read more on that through here.
