The PlayStation 3 has had a number of classics but these games scrape the bottom of the barrel.

The PlayStation 3 era is remembered with fondness, even with all the trials and tribulations the console faced at the beginning. While we look back on classics like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Resistance, Killzone and so on, let’s not forget some of the terrible games that also released.

Haze

Haze should have had it all. It was developed by the team behind TimeSplitters, backed by a large publisher in Ubisoft and one of the key exclusives for the PlayStation 3. Lo and behold, this epic single-player shooter was simply a mess of glitches, bland visuals, terrible writing, boring gameplay, dumb AI, and so on. It’s a shame too because the premise was genuinely interesting.

A major announcement may have been prematurely leaked.

Once upon a time, Ace Combat was a premier series, the kind where the announcement and release of a new release was always an anticipated and hyped event. Unfortunately, some lackluster outings, as well as some misguided experiments with the free to play format, really took away a lot of the series’ sheen.

See, a full fledged, numbered Ace Combat 7 may be coming- some pretty smart Japanese gamers have datamined the files for Ace Combat Infinity’s (the aforementioned free to play game) newest update, and they have discovered this message:

“ACE COMBAT INFINITY エースコンバット７のエンブレムをゲットせよ！ Obtain some ACE COMBAT 7 emblems! Obtenez des emblèmes de ACE COMBAT 7 ! Ottieni degli emblemi di ACE COMBAT 7! Holen Sie sich “ACE COMBAT 7″-Embleme! ¡Conseguid emblemas de ACE COMBAT 7! Получите эмблемы ACE COMBAT 7!

パイロット各位 「エースコンバット　インフィニティ」をプレイいただきありがとうございます。

PlayStationExperience2015にて、エースコンバット７の発表が行われました。

トレーラー動画も配信しておりますので、 ”エースコンバット7”あるいは”PlayStationExperience2015”を検索してご覧ください 新作発表を記念して、エースコンバット７のエンブレムがゲットできるスペシャルチャレンジが発生中です”

Roughly this translates to an advertisement for buying some virtual goods, followed by a thanks for playing message, finally followed by a statement confirming that Ace Combat 7 has been announced at the PlayStation Experience.

Huh. Very interesting. That might be one completely unexpected announcement coming up later this week, then.

Ace Combat Infinity, the latest entry in Namco Bandai’s long running flight combat simulator franchise, and the first free to play entry in the series as well, is now finally available in Europe, Asia, and Australia, Namco Bandai announced. The game is available exclusively on the PlayStation 3 over the PSN Store.

Ace Combat Infinity marks the first entry in the franchise after a hiatus of a few years; its entry into this generation was bungled successively. The game includes a hefty helping of content, with a single player campaign, online co-op, additional multuplayer modes and skins, and so on.

“Ace Combat is a legendary license and is an example to follow when it comes down to Flight Shooting games. Today we are really happy to release this high quality sequel; all the fans deserve it!” said Herve Hoerdt, Vice President of IP Strategy, Marketing & PR at Bandai Namco Games Europe. “Thanks to its economic model, every aspiring pilot will be able to enjoy an ace game. And don’t forget: The Sky Is Yours!”

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage of the title.

Ace Combat: Infinity, the newest installment in Namco’s long running flight sim and combat series, will be releasing on the PlayStation 3 on May 28 exclusively, over the PlayStation Network. This new trailer shows off vigorous fighter dogfights, and it shows off the storyline of the title, including the appearance of the rival squadron “Ridgebacks” as well as the battle against the “Butterfly Emblem” and the UAVs.

Ace Combat: Infinity is the newest entry in the series after a bit of a hiatus following a series of increasingly disappointing games this past generation. With Infinity, the payment model aside, Namco Bandai seem to have returned to the basics of what made Ace Combat great, and hopefully, Infinity can deliver the same kind of flight action goodness that the series was known for before.

Ace Combat Infinity launches in Europe, Australia, and Asia on May 28 over PSN. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.

Hopefully a western release follows soon.

Ace Combat Infinity is the next installment in Namco’s flight simulator/combat franchise, bound exclusively to the PlayStation 3; series fans and veterans may rejoice at the franchise returning to its perceived home after some deviations to the Xbox 360 nearly a decade ago, but that joy will probably be short lived when they realize that Ace Combat Infinity is, in fact, a free to play game.

Free to play may be a toxic term in the industry and among gamers, but if done right, it can create some compelling quality content- see, for instance, Riot’s League of Legends and Valve’s Dota 2. Namco’s Ace Combat Infinity also looks like a free to play game done right, and might represent the best model for this franchise moving forward.

The newest video that you see above hammers the point home- it shows off the single campaign and the co-op missions that form the game, and gives the game a release date in Japan. Hopefully a western release follows soon.

Everything you need to know about Ace Combat Infinity.

Ace Combat Infinity is an upcoming free to play action arcade flight simulator that is to be inserted into the Ace Combat franchise. Currently in development by Project Aces (An internally formed team belonging to Namco Bandai, Project Aces are the long standing developers of the Ace Combat series.

Most games developed by Project Aces are credited to Namco) and set to be published by parent company Bandai Namco Games (formerly Namco Bandai Games [Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and Dark Souls II]) exclusively for the PlayStation 3, it’s the eighteenth Ace Combat game.

Given the free to play nature of the game, it will only be available via digital download. There’s currently no release date for the final release of the game. There has been no publicly announced details regarding a current generation port of the game to PlayStation 4.

Development

Ace Combat Infinity was first officially and fully unveiled for the public on July 11th when the games official website went live after a long running advertising campaign finally came to a close. The campaign which served as a large teaser for the game was primarily ran by then Namco Bandai, now Bandai Namco Games and Director of Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Kazutoki Kono via a series of twitter posts from Kono’s personal account and the Project Aces tweet feed.

After finishing with the teaser campaign a more direct approach was taken on with the release of a short trailer later on July 19th (46 seconds) which was followed another trailer on August 2nd. This all coincided with the simultaneous announcement of the game through the official Namco Bandai Games website (European), this was also the first time the game was announced to have adopted the free to play model (much to the displeasure of many fans of the series) which marked the first time an Ace Combat game would be available as a free to play title.

The reasoning this is apparently based in the want of bringing the Ace Combat series to as many players as possible, the SVP (senior vice president) of Bandai Namco Games, Oliver Comte elaborated on the matter by saying “The Ace Combat franchise has evolved dramatically over the years, but never before have we been able to offer its amazing graphics and tactical action for free. The team at Project Aces listens very carefully to its players, and is bringing the best the series has to offer to Ace Combat Infinity, with plenty of new surprises too.”

Ace Combat Infinity will be making use of established canon material despite the free to play model, including the Stonehenge Railgun Network Superstructure and the multi airborne fortress fleet, Estovakian Aerial. The game entered into its open beta stage on February 4th, this was however short lived with the beta period ending on February 11th. While it was available the beta offered two full missions from the single player campaign of the game as well as a competitive mode, but this is still considered a work in progress.

Gameplay

Ace Combat Infinity is being targeted towards the core Ace Combat audience that are more acquainted with the “classic gameplay” found in the earlier entries in the series, specifically Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies. To keep the classic gameplay intact and unsullied, the CRA system (CRA: Close Range Assault, a gameplay mechanic that was designed to put an emphasis on the games focus on close quarters aerial combat which made use of a highly dynamic camera to best show off the new destruction engine) that was found in Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will not be included in Ace Combat Infinity.

A few alterations to the HUD are already confirmed. The inclusion of enemy health bars is nothing new, they have however been moved from the top left corner of the HUD to the targets hit-box making target acquisition and health monitoring a more streamlined affair, other HUD changes are purely aesthetic and won’t impact gameplay. A new feature called Tactical Datalink enables statistical boosts to friendly aircraft if you fly within a certain proximity, this means that formation flying and formation attacks will yield better results. A series first is the inclusion of real time accurate debris fields, meaning if you’re aircraft passes through the debris of a recently destroyed enemy fighter, you may be sprayed with debris, shrapnel and oils that will interact with your screens.

Take to the skies for free.

Ace Combat: Infinity, the newest, free to play, entry in the long running flying sim/combat franchise, is hitting the PlayStation 3 exclusively soon; ahead of that, though, Namco Bandai have released an open beta for the game, which is available on the PlayStation Network starting today.

Ace Combat: Infinity attempts to return the series to the heights it once scaled (pun totally and absolutely intended) after a series of disappointing games released in succession that caused the franchise to languish in mediocrity and obscurity for the majority of the HD generation.

The new game is set in the future, which allows for the series to eschew its more grounded design (there, I did it again), and become more imaginative with its setting. The beta will allow players to get a feel for this new setting and style by letting them play two missions, both co-op and campaign, and allowing players access to all premium paid for items free of charge, only for the beta period though.

Stay tuned for more coverage.

Online co-op, except not really.

Ace Combat Infinity, the upcoming newest game in Namco Bandai’s long running air simulator and combat series, just got a new trailer, this one showcasing the online co-op missions in the game. The game looks like it might be pretty exciting, especially for series fans, and it might just spell a return to form for the series after the disappointing last installment.

Online Co-op Missions, meanwhile, are completely new to Ace Combat Infinity, which will involve 4v4 team matches (so it’s not really co-op); you have to work with your team to complete assigned missions before your enemy team does, meaning you can either choose to focus on trying to complete the assigned mission as soon as possible, or you can instead focus exclusively on annihilating your opponent so you get a clear field.

Ace Combat Infinity is a PlayStation 3 exclusive. The game will be made available on the PSN Store sometime later this year.

A new look at Ace Combat Infinity.

Ace Combat Infinity is the soon-to-be released flight based action game from developers, Project Aces. Ace Combat Infinity will be free to play, and will release exclusively on the PlayStation 3. It will be the first free to play installment in the Ace Combat series.

In this trailer, we see some Ace Combat Infinity plot centering on the “Ulysses Disaster.” The trailer also gives us some good looks at what we can expect in terms of game play, showing off both the cockpit-perspective flight simulation, and the third person outside-of-vehicle view, while also giving us a glimpse at some of the weaponry that certain planes will utilize to neutralize their targets.

The Ulyssees Disaster centers on a rogue series of asteroids headed for earth, and the efforts of earth to thwart them. With the help of advanced technology, mankind was able to spare the earth at the expense of the majority of her inhabitants. We can assume that your rigorous flight training will center on trying to prevent such a disaster from every happening again.
