AEW: Fight Forever Launches on June 29

There have been some question marks in recent weeks over when Yuke’s and THQ Nordic’s AEW game might release, but a launch date for the wrestling title has now been officially confirmed. As it turns out, recent leaks of a June release for the title were (more or less) accurate.

AEW: Fight Forever will be out for all platforms on June 29, a little over a month from now, it’s been announced. The announcement was made in a video by wrestler Kenny Omega, who also confirmed that pre-orders and pre-loading for the title are now live.

Billed as an arcade experience that’s easy to pick up but hard to master, AEW: Fight Forever will feature both online and single player modes, boasting a career mode, wrester creation and customization features, multiple match types, and more. Wrestling fans have finally ben able to play well-made wrestling games these last couple of years thanks to the long-overdue reversal in fortunes of the WWE 2K series, but one game in particular that many have had their eye on – Yuke’s’ AEW: Fight Forever – has kept us waiting for quite some time. Official word on when it might launch has been scant, with publisher THQ Nordic having said last month that the game wasn’t quite ready for release yet, though it seems that might be changing soon.

According to Fightful Select (via VGC), AEW: Fight Forever is set to launch on June 27 to coincide with AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2, which is set for June 25. The game’s release date will allegedly be announced in the coming days. Whether that will happen at one of the many upcoming gaming events or if THQ Nordic and AEW will choose to do something separately remains to be seen.

According to Fightful Select, the release date announcement for AEW: Fight Forever was delayed due to the controversies surrounding wrestler CM Punk.

Fans of wrestling games have enjoyed a recent resurgence of the genre, thanks primarily to the return to form for the WWE 2K series, and while the recently-released WWE 2K23 is being enjoyed by many right now, there’s more still to look forward to in the coming months. AEW: Fight Forever is a game many have had their eye on for a while, thanks in no small part to the fact that it’s being developed by Yuke’s- but exactly when can we expect it to launch?

Officially, it has a 2023 release window, and though a specific launch date has to to be announced, when AEW president Tony Khan recently said that the game’s development was done and its release was imminent, expectations for an announcement promptly rose. However, publisher THQ Nordic has poured a little bit of water on those flames.

Responding to reports about the game’s release on Twitter, THQ Nordic’s global senior community manager Per Hollenbo recently said that though AEW: Fight Forever is making good progress behind the scenes, it’s still not quite ready to release yet.

“I mean, if you want an unfinished game, sure, we could release now,” he wrote. “The game is doing really well and is getting there, but not 100% yet, so yeah, just another rumour on Twitter I fear.”

Presumably that would suggest that an announcement of a specific release date might still be a little bit further off than some had recently assumed.

Either way, AEW: Fight Forever is due out sometime this year, and will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

AEW: Fight Forever Trailer Shows Off Match Between Adam Page and Bryan Danielson

THQ Nordic has released a new trailer for upcoming pro-wrestling game AEW: Fight Forever. The trailer focuses on a singles match between “Hangman” Adam Page and “The Amerian Dragon” Bryan Danielson. The trailer splices together footage from gameplay along with a match the two had on AEW’s weekly show Dynamite.

Alongside showing off gameplay, the trailer also gives us a look at the various iconic moves both wrestlers are known for, such as Danielson’s Busaiku Knee and Page’s Buckshot Lariat.

AEW: Fight Forever last got a trailer back in November, where it showed off various members of the AEW roster in the game, including Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, and Britt Baker. The video also touted several features of the game, including in-depth career modes, create-a-wrestler, and a variety of different match types.

Currently there is no word on when AEW: Fight Forever will be released, but it is slated to come out some time in 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. In the mean time, if you’re looking for your wrestling fix in video games, WWE 2K23 is slated to release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on March 17.

Japanese developer Yuke’s has been synonymous with licensed WWE titles for over two decades, but that long-standing association came to a surprising end with the studio ended its partnership with license holder 2K Games. It was confirmed not long afterward that Yuke’s had partnered with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) for the development of a competing wrestling game, and in the time since then, bits and pieces of new details have emerged on AEW: Fight Forever (including as part of a recent leak that revealed gameplay details and screenshots).

Now, however, the game has finally been officially announced. It’s been confirmed that AEW: Fight Forever will be published by THQ Nordic, partnered up with developer Yuke’s and AEW Games. The game is apparently “going completely next level with Tag Team matches that feature sequences of team maneuvers performed with simple commands”.

Meanwhile, it’s also been confirmed that AEW: Fight Forever will feature a “deep” career mode, a “long roster of the most popular AEW wrestlers”, the ability to create your own wrestler, signature AEW arenas, several different match types, customization modes, online multiplayer, leaderboards, and more.
