Hakan Abrak spoke about the relationship between Amazon and IO Interactive, and how the two companies like to focus on quality.

CEO of IO Interactive, Hakan Abrak, has said that we could potentially see a sequel to 007: First Light depending on how well the game sells. In an interview with The Game Business, Abrak spoke about the relationship between the studio and James Bond IP owner Amazon, and how the two companies like to focus on quality.

“There’s always some settling to do,” said Abrak about first working with Amazon for 007: First Light. “There are new people that you have to talk to. But when that change happened, they were very, very impressed with what we had at that point already. And we just got into the collaboration, with all the beats and planning we had to do for the marketing.”

“One constant partner from MGM, and MGM Amazon now, has been our executive producer from the other side. He’s been there from day one and is still here, and he’s been a pivotal anchor point. But from Amazon’s side, I’ll be so bold and say, they can see it’s a great game. And having invested and taken over that IP, they obviously want to make sure that everything that comes out is great. So, once they got into it and played, they became huge supporters. And we are very grateful for that.”

As for the potential of a sequel to 007: First Light, the publication has noted that IO Interactive’s development methods usually involve making sequels at lower cost than their predecessors, as was the case with the Hitman trilogy. Ultimately, however, Abrak has said that it comes down to quality for both IO Interactive and Amazon.

“We are all about quality and to stand by what we do,” he said. “And I think Amazon is in the same place. There’s no doubt that we all want to see how this is doing. It’s not only Amazon MGM side, is also IO Interactive side. Is our character going to be well received? Is there going to be a community that likes him and wants to see more?”

“I’m so grateful given the stories we hear every day in this industry. We are so blessed that we are in a place where we can pick and choose what we want to do. So, if this goes really well and it’s a beloved thing from the community, why not?”

When it comes to the relationship between Amazon and IO Interactive, 007: First Light‘s franchise art director Rasmus Poulsen spoke about the strange discussions between the two companies that would often take place in the early stages of the game’s development. Among the subjects of these discussions was whether Bond would have a color preference for the cars he drives.

“Really weird things get discussed, right? … What colour car would Bond never drive? People think one thing, people think another thing. We go like, ‘Well, that’s a weird discussion,’” he said. “Really fun, really strange offshoots that demanded three meetings… whereas really big, tent-pole decisions,” would get settled quickly.

007: First Light is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. While the first three platforms will get it on May 27th, the Switch 2 version is set for release this Summer.

Hurst should be familiar to God of War fans thanks to his BAFTA-nominated portrayal of Thor in 2022's God of War Ragnarok.

Amazon has announced that its live action adaptation of Sony’s God of War series will star Ryan Hurst as protagonist Kratos. The announcement was made through a social media post, featuring a picture of Hurst alongside an older Kratos as he looks in 2018’s God of War and 2022’s God of War: Ragnarök. The developer of the God of War series—Santa Monica Studio—took to social media to celebrate the casting, noting that Hurst is joining the ranks of T.C. Carson, who portrayed Kratos in the older PS2 and PS3-era games, and Christopher Judge, who portrayed the character in the more recent titles.

“Congratulations to Ryan Hurst who will be stepping into the role of Kratos for the upcoming God of War live action series,” wrote Santa Monica Studio. “We’re excited to see his take on Kratos as he joins the legendary ranks of T.C. Carson and Christopher Judge who have each shaped this character in unforgettable ways.

Hurst should already be quite familiar to fans of the franchise since he had last shown up in God of War Ragnarök in the role of Thor, for which he had gotten a BAFTA nomination. As for his previous work, Hurst has played Gerry Bertier in Remember the Titans, and Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy. Prime Video’s God of War adaptation is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.

The production of the God of War series has seen its ups and down, culminating in it getting rebooted in October 2024. This coincided with the show getting a new showrunner, writer and executive producer in Robert D. Moore, who is known for his work on shows like Outlander, For All Mankind, and the Battlestar Galactica reimagining. A report last month also revealed that the first two episodes of the show will be directed by Frederick E.O. Toye, who has previously worked on The Boys and Shogun. Production has also been well underway, taking place in Vancouver.

How well this live action adaptation pans out remains to be seen. However, Amazon has been quite optimistic about it, having already greenlit a second season while the first one is still under production. Moore confirmed this in an interview back in March 2025.

“Right now I’m working on the adaptation of this videogame called God of War, it’s a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they asked me to come in, I’m literally in the writer’s room and that’s my new thing,” he said when asked about his plans for the future.

While not too many more details about the God of War series have been revealed, Amazon has confirmed that its story will be based on the 2018 game, with Kratos and his son Atreus setting off on a journey to spread the ashes of Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother, Faye. Much like the game itself, the story will also seemingly revolve around the themes of fatherhood, with Kratos focused on making sure that Atreus doesn’t grow up to be like the other mythological figures he has had to face during his time in Greece.
