It's a scene we've seen many times before, although not quite like this, as Kratos and Atreus look good in their live-action avatars.

We’ve just got our first look at Kratos and Atreus in Amazon Prime’s upcoming live-action God of War adaptation. A tweet from the show’s official handle showcases the duo in what appears to be a scene from an early point in their story.

If you haven’t played the games that brought this chapter of Kratos’ story to life, the scene in question is part of the early hours of the first title. Kratos has just lost Faye, his wife and Atreus’s mother, and is trying to determine whether or not his son is ready for the long journey to the highest peak in all of Midgard, where they must spread her ashes. The former God of War is quite a grouch in these early days of the adventure, and Kratos’s dour expression in the photo makes us believe that Ryan Hurst has done his homework.

Of course, the star of the show, in our humble opinion, is Callum Vinson’s Atreus (or Boy as Kratos knows him then), who’s looking absolutely adorable even as he seems to be under pressure to prove himself to a father he doesn’t fully understand yet.

All in all, things are looking quite good for the show, although it might be a while before we get to see it in action, despite a second season already on the way.

Fallout 76 had previously seen content related to the show's second season through its Burning Springs update featuring The Ghoul.

While production on season 3 of Amazon’s Fallout series might be slated to start in Summer 2026, the writing team has already gotten started on the show’s future series. In an interview with Variety, executive producer on Amazon’s Fallout series and director and producer on Fallout games at Bethesda Game Studios Todd Howard spoke about the next season of the show as it currently airs its second one. Interestingly, he also spoke about discussions that were taking place about bringing things from the show’s third season into the Fallout games.

“For us on the game and TV show side, we’re writing Season 3 now,” Howard said in the interview, noting that the writing for the show is largely being handled by its own writers’ room along with Jonathan Nolan. “We’re having those conversations now of, what are we doing in Season 3 for the TV show and what elements can we bring into our games at that time when it comes out that don’t feel forced or fake.”

Bringing in more things from the Fallout show into the games wouldn’t be a far-fetched idea; earlier this month, multiplayer game Fallout 76 saw the release of its Burning Springs update which features a story that revolves around The Ghoul—the character portrayed by actor Walton Goggins in the show. The title also saw an update earlier this year that also allowed players to turn their own characters into Ghouls, complete with their own unique perks and traits that can be used throughout the game’s content.

Howard also spoke about some of the changes that the second season of the Fallout show has since its first season, including the fact that its episodes are being released on a weekly basis. This is a major change, since the first season made its debut with the release of all eight of its episodes on the same day. Howard noted that this weekly release schedule also means that there are a lot more surprises for viewers, especially since it can’t be binged through in a single sitting for now.

“There’s a lot of surprises,” said Howard. “So the main thing is, we’re dropping an episode every week, so I would just say, stick with it. There’s a lot of surprises, and I’m curious to see how it plays for everybody, because it’s gonna be a weekly show now, as opposed to a binge-watch all at once.”

The Burning Springs update for Fallout 76 was a major addition to the game thanks to its introduction of an entirely new zone for players to explore, complete with its own story and characters to interact with. Along with this, the update also brought with it the Bounty Hunting activity, as well as a host of new public events that pit players against more powerful enemies like Deathclaws and Radscorpions.

For more details about the various updates that Fallout 76 has gotten all year, check out how the game’s developers have celebrated the title in a recent community post. Fallout 76 is available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S being able to play the title through backwards compatibility until a native current-gen version is released in 2026.

Jonathan Nolan noted that the crew behind the Fallout series wants to keep getting back on the air at in a "reasonable amount of time".

Amazon’s Fallout series executive producer has revealed that filming for the third season of the show is slated to start in Summer 2026. He revealed this in an interview with IGN alongside fellow executive producer, as well as creator and showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet, where they also spoke about the upcoming second season of the show.

“Well I say with regards to production, we’re hoping to be shooting again next summer,” said Nolan. “We’ll see if that all comes together. Best laid plans and all, but I’m excited that the scope of the show feels undiminished season-on-season. Geneva and Graham our incredibly talented cast and crew were able to work quickly enough to get back on the air in a reasonable amount of time.”

“I think what’s happened with television in terms of taking longer and longer from season to season is an unfortunate trend. You don’t want the show to lose any of its scope, but we know that we like to be back on the air as soon as we can.”

The duo spoke quite a bit about some of the smaller details from throughout the second season for Amazon’s Fallout. Among the subjects of conversation was how the show will depict the Fallout series’ iconic Deathclaws. They discussed how the production crew used a combination of puppets created for practical effect and CGI for extra details. Robertson-Dworet noted that this hybrid approach was pioneered by Nolan in order to ensure that even the more fantastical things in the show would feel “tactile and real”.

“It’s always an interplay of getting the creatures as practical as we can get them, and its’ a balancing match or maybe a wrestling match between our practical effects, special effects themes and our visual effects teams headed up by Jay Worth,” Nolan explained. “We always endeavour to give Jay as little to do as possible. With the Deathclaw, we took a kind of hybrid approach where we tasked Legacy, who’s the vendor who had built a power armour for us for the first season and a new version for the second season.”

“Knowing from the beginning that we wouldn’t be able to do something on the scale of the Deathclaw from the game unless it was a hybrid approach. Meaning we’re going to build the head, the face, the claws, some of the key aspects of it and have it puppeteered on our set to give as much reality to it as possible, and as much reality for our actors to react with.”

Just last month, actor Aaron Moten – who plays the role of Brotherhood of Steel squire Maximus – had revealed that the Amazon series has no plans on deciding a canon ending for Fallout: New Vegas despite the show taking place in the same physical space as the seminal RPG. He noted that, since the show takes place a number of years after the games, it gives the show plenty of wiggle room when it comes to interpreting certain events that may or may not have happened.

Season 2 of Amazon’s Fallout series is slated to premiere on December 17.

Actor Aaron Moten noted that enough time had passed between the events of the game and the show to allow reinterpretation of history.

Amazon’s Fallout series tackling the New Vegas area in its second season has raised a lot of questions about whether the show will end up picking one of the several endings Fallout: New Vegas offered as the official cannon one. In an interview with The Spill (via IGN), however, actor Aaron Moten – who plays the role of Brotherhood of Steel squire Maximus – has indicating that the show’s second season will not, in fact, canonise any specific ending from the game.

In the interview, Moten noted that the timeline during which the Amazon Fallout series takes place allows the show plenty of room in how it might want to interpret the events of Fallout: New Vegas. The show is set in the year 2296, which puts it around 15 years after the events of the 2010 RPG.

“Actually, you know what’s really interesting is our storyline, where we are in time, it’s a number of years after the events of New Vegas,” he said. He went on to talk about the fact that the storytelling in the Fallout universe, and the fact that the events of the game would be far enough backwards in time that it can be reimagined and reinterpreted by other people who would have lived in the area since then. This, he said, happened in a conversation he had with co-showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

“An interesting thing, a conversation Geneva and I have been having, was actually about how history is written in the wasteland by whoever writes it. And different perspectives will have a different perspective on who won and who lost. It’s a really beautiful thing. We see it really early on that you guys [Ella Purnell’s Lucy and Walton Goggins’ The Ghoul] find out who believes themselves to be winning, and The Ghoul offering a different perspective.”

Fallout: New Vegas was well known for the amount of player agency it offered, and how it would pay off the consequences of the choices that players would make throughout the game. Among these choices was the fate of the Hoover Dam in the lead up to the Battle of Hoover Dam. As part of the storyline, the player – known in the game as The Courier – had the choice of aligning themselves with a number of different factions, each of whom had different motivations to want to take over the dam. The three main branches offered here were siding with Mr. House, the New California Republic, or Caesar’s Legion, and the world would appropriately change to reflect the player’s choice in this regard.

The second season of Amazon’s Fallout series got a trailer back in August, where the company also confirmed that the show would kick off its second season on December 17. The show is slated to pick up right where it left off with season 1, and will take the characters to the Mojave Desert surrounding the city of New Vegas. While you wait for the second season premiere, also check out photos from the set that had been released earlier this year.

The second season of the show will have several references to seminal RPG Fallout: New Vegas, including story bits involving Mr. House.

Amazon has revealed more details about the second season of its Fallout series. These details were detailed during Gamescom Opening Night Live, and featured executive producer Jonathan Nolan, showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet, actress Ella Purnell (Lucy), and actor Aaron Moten (Maximus).

The four revealed some loose details about what the storyline will entail. Some of the arcs that will be explored in the show will include the past of Cooper Howard – aka the Ghoul – as well as whether Lucy ends up transforming the Ghoul or whether she will find herself transformed into a more hardened wasteland survivor.

Nolan has also confirmed that we will get to see more references to Fallout: New Vegas in the second season of Fallout, and a new trailer was revealed that gives us a closer look at what we can expect from the show when it kicks off its second season later this year. The trailer even features musical cues from New Vegas, as well as a wide shot of the city, before also giving us a look at Mr. House. The trailer caps off by showing us a Deathclaw, and confirming that the second season will premiere on December 17.

The trailer also shows off some of the factions that will be involved in the story, including Caesar’s Legion, while also confirming that the Brotherhood of Steel will once more be involved.

The photos posted to social media also include hints about some of the plot twists and turns we can expect from Fallout season 2.

While Amazon had already confirmed that we’d be getting a trailer for its Fallout series during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event this week, the company has now once more taken to social media to give us a quick peak at what we can expect from the second season of the show.

In a series of posts on social media platform X, the official account for Amazon Prime’s Fallout series has posted seven pictures from the upcoming second season of the show. These pictures feature a wide variety of scenes from the show, including returning characters, new ones, and even a quick look at the post-apocalyptic take on the Mojave Desert surrounding the city of New Vegas.

The photos feature a variety of characters from the series, including Brotherhood of Steel members, as well as protagonist Lucy MacLean (as portrayed by Ella Purnell). A message accompanying the pictures also indicates that there will be plenty of twists and turns for fans of Fallout: New Vegas to discover with the show’s second season. “We got a Full House,” posted the X account. “Take a peek at what’s on hand for Season Two.”

Amazon had confirmed that the second season of the show would be getting a trailer during Gamescom just last week.

“Time for a little road trip,” posted the official social media account. “Season Two is coming but first: a quick pitstop @gamescom #OpeningNightLive on Tuesday. Bring a Stimpak.” This post was met with replies by both the official Xbox account, which posted “VIVA NEW VEGAS”, as well as the official Gamescom account, which posted “Already legendary”.

Gamescom is slated to kick off this week, with its first major attraction – Opening Night Live – slated to go live on August 19 at 11 am PT. The show will be hosted by Geoff Keighley, and will feature trailers, reveals, updates, and even new announcements, among other things.

Season 2 of Amazon Prime’s Fallout was greenlit by the company all the way back in April 2024, shortly after the show had made its debut. While filming and production for the second season had been kicked off back in November, the show hit a few roadblocks along the way. “We start November,” said actress Leslie Uggams last year. “I’m excited about it.”

Production hit a snag owing to wildfires having started in regions in Los Angeles where the show was being filmed. At the time, the Los Angeles permit agency for filming, FilmLA, had withdrawn permits that had been issued for filming in locations like Altadena, La Crescenta, La Canada/Flintridge, and unincorporated Pasadena.

The second season of Fallout is slated to debut in December. As we get closer to the first episode of season 2, however, it is worth noting that Amazon has already greenlit a third season for the show.

“We are absolutely thrilled that our global Prime Video customers will be able to delve deeper into the wonderfully surreal and captivating world of Fallout,” said Amazon MGM Studios global head of television Vernon Sanders. “Jonah, Lisa, Geneva, and Graham have done an exceptional job bringing this beloved video game franchise to vivid life on Prime Video. Together with our amazing partners at Bethesda Games and Bethesda Softworks, we are delighted to announce a third season of Fallout, well ahead of the much-anticipated debut of Season Two.”

The adaptation was recently rebooted in development, with Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica fame confirmed as its showrunner.

Whether Sony will find the sort of success with its upcoming PlayStation adaptations that it has with HBO’s The Last of Us remains to be seen, but it certainly has irons in the fire. For instance, a God of War adaptation has been in the works at Amazon Prime for a while, and it seems the series is starting off in confident fashion behind-the-scenes.

Speaking recently in an interview with Katee Sackhoff, Ronald D. Moore – the new God of War showrunner – offered an update on the show’s progress, and revealed that Amazon has already ordered two seasons for the adaptation.

“Right now I’m working on the adaptation of this videogame called God of War, it’s a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they asked me to come in, I’m literally in the writer’s room and that’s my new thing,” he said.

Last October, it was announced that Amazon Prime had rebooted the God of War show, with Moore, best known for his work on Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica, announced as its new showrunner, and previous showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus departing the project.

Meanwhile, leaks have claimed that a new God of War game set in Greece and starring a young Kratos is also in development. Read more on that through here.

BioWare itself hasn’t done an awful lot to placate Mass Effect fans on N7 Day (just as the studio said), but it looks like some significant news has emerged nonetheless. Back in 2021, it was reported that Amazon was in discussions regarding a TV show based on Mass Effect, and that project, it sems, is now officially moving forward.

As reported by Variety, a Mass Effect series is now officially in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Daniel Casey – who is best know as the writer for F9: The Fast Saga (a.k.a. Fast and Furious 9) – will serve as the show’s writer and executive producer, and will be joined by fellow executive producers in the form of Karim Zreik (Daredevil, Jessica Jones) of the Cedar Tree Productions Banner, Ari Arad (Uncharted, Spider-Man, Spider-Verse), and BioWare’s Michael Gamble. Gamble is also the Project Director on the next Mass Effect game.

Details on the show itself, what elements of the games it will cover, or who we can expect it to feature in its cast are currently unknown, as you’d expect, but after years of suggestions that a Mass Effect adaptation could happen, it looks like it’s now finally officially been given the green light, so hopefully it won’t be long before we get more concrete details.

Ronald D. Moore – known for his work on Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, For All Mankind, and more – will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the series.

It was recently reported that Amazon Prime and Sony’s God of War TV series was opting for a change in creative direction, with showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus set to leave the project, with an entirely new creative team set to be hired. Now, it seems we know what will be leading that team.

As reported by Deadline, the God of War show has found a new showrunner, writer, and executive producer in Ronald D. Moore. For those unfamiliar, recent years have seen Moore serve in those same roles for successful shows such as Outlander for Starz and For All Mankind for Apple TV. Going back further, he led the Battlestar Galactica reimagining, while earlier in his career, he also had extensive involvement in multiple Star Trek shows and films.

As reported previously, development on the God of War show will be starting over from scratch, though Sony Santa Monica’s Cory Barlog and Yumi Yang will continue to serve as executive producers, as will PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, PlayStation’s Hermen Hulst, and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.

Amazon Prime series sees the departure of showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, with the series now set to take a different creative direction.

A TV series based on God of War was officially greenlit by Sony and Amazon Prime back in 2022, and as recently as earlier this year, it was confirmed that the show was in the writing stage. It seems, however, that things haven’t progressed exactly the way Prime and Sony wanted, with the series set to restart development from scratch.

That’s as per a Deadline report, which claims that showrunner Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time) and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus (The Expanse) have all left the project. The trio had reportedly finished multiple scripts for the show’s first season, and the scripts had received praise from Sony and Prime.

The studios are nonetheless choosing to take a different creative direction with the series, and are, as such, looking to hire an entirely new writing room. What that new direction will be remains to be seen. Meanwhile, SIE Santa Monica Studio’s Cory Barlog and Yumi Yang will both still continue to serve as executive producers on the show.
