Because what we need is MORE Amiibo scarcity!

Amiibos are already rare- Nintendo’s entry in the toys-to-life genre have given collectors nothing but nightmares over the last few months, as figurines have seen stock shortages, low shipments, retailer exclusivity, and more, leading to a nightmare for all those who want to just try and secure a figure of their favorite character.

This won’t help matters.

Reports from France are suggesting that game stores nationwide are having to cancel pre-orders for the upcoming yarn Yoshi Amiibos, because all stock seems to be damaged. As of right now, no official explanation or reasoning for the damaged stock has been given, but Nintendo Life suggests the shipment was likely ruined during transit.

This isn’t the first time that Europe has been met with Amiibo shortages due to shipping issues, either- last month, Splatoon Amiibos became scarce as water in a desert in the UK, when a lorry transporting their shipment to GAME UK was stolen.

Nintendo, seriously, things are getting out of hand here. Just, I don’t know, make more of the damn things?

Nintendo's characters to appear in Vicarious Visions's next Skylanders.

Vicarious Visions will be bringing its latest iteration of Skylanders to the Wii U with Superchargers and will incorporate vehicles into its vehicle. However, tying the Nintendo Amiibo figures into the game, it was announced that Donkey Kong and Bowser would appear with their own vehicles in Skylanders Superchargers.

Each character will have its own abilities and attacks, and the vehicles are very distinct from anything seen before. One example is Magma Bowser which uses his flame breath in a steady stream to annihilate enemies. The Amiibo designs themselves are pretty cool if you’re into collecting them.

The most important theme though is that of Nintendo characters appearing in a third party title. That’s pretty big news considering the control that Nintendo usually exhibits for its franchises. What are your thoughts on Donkey Kong and Bowser in Skylanders Superchargers? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more information.

It really is so fluffy.

Nintendo’s first console Yoshi adventure since Yoshi’s Story on the Nintendo 64, Yoshi’s Woolly World, is almost here, and the newest trailer for the game shows it off in all of its adorable fluffiness, while also demonstrating how Nintendo’s Amiibo figurines will be used in game.

Amiibos will feature greatly in the game, as you can scan in any Amiibo, and have the yarn Yoshi change its skin into one that resembles the character the Amiibo was for. That aside, the new trailer also shows us an extensive look at the game, its gameplay, its levels, and the kind of platforming action we can expect, also pausing to show us some off the co-op action that will be included in the game.

If you weren’t already sold on Yoshi’s Woolly World (in which case you are a heartless being), you will be after watching this trailer. Yoshi’s Woolly World launches exclusively on the Wii U later this year. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.

Nintendo continues to expand the roster of its wildly successful NFC figures.

Nintendo’s Amiibos were always going to be successful, but no one, not even Nintendo (evident by all the delays and shortages) could have predicted just how successful. And now , even as the company scrambles to ensure the demand is met, and the momentum sustained, it has announced yet another wave of Amiibo figurines, this one featuring some lesser known Nintendo characters that are nonetheless widely loved by fanatic Nintendo fans.

In July, Dark Pit and Palutena will be released, while in September we’ll see Olimar, Bowser Jr., Zero Suit Samus, Ganondorf and Dr. Mario hit store shelves. In addition, Ness will also be getting an Amiibo of his own, albeit exclusively via GameStop. Nintendo also confirmed that MewTwo and Lucas, two newcomers to the Smash Bros. lineup, who are going to be made available as DLC, will also be getting Amiibos of their own in the future.

Speaking of Amiibos, Nintendo also confirmed a line of Amiibos tying in to their upcoming squad based third person shooter, Splatoon. The Amiibos will unlock some exclusive missions in the game, which will in turn let the players gain access to items and weapons they can not gain access to any other way. So far, this is the most overbearing implementation of Amiibos- let’s hope Nintendo does not make it a habit.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more information and coverage.

Nintendo's NFC figurines will be getting even more uses soon.

Amiibos, the NFC figures that Nintendo released late last year alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (and then saw the dough roll in as they went on to sell millions) have so far had a variety of uses, albeit all limited- they are compatible with multiple games, and can be used to unlock stuff in various Nintendo games. Now, they will be getting even more uses as Nintendo confirmed at its newest investors meeting that they will be used to unlock timed demos of Virtual Console games soon enough.

Essentially, upon scanning in the figure using the Wii U’s NFC port, you will be allowed to download a free, timed trial of an NES or SNES game starring that character for free; so far, this has been confirmed only for Wii U, though with the release of the NFC enabled New Nintendo 3DS, chances are it will be coming over to their handheld soon too.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more information.

The triple whammy of Super Smash Bros., Pokemon, and Amiibos seems to be working.

Nintendo is doomed. No, wait.

If there is one thing that the company’s thirty plus year history in the video game market should prove, it is that one should never count them out. Since the early 1990s, people have constantly proclaimed doom for the company, pointing to trends, fads, numbers, charts, market conditions, what have you, to decidedly demonstrate that the company is on the decline, and the way out, and each time, the company has struck back and returned stronger than before.

This has never been more marked than now, with the 3DS and Wii U, Nintendo’s worst performing handheld and console in history respectively, and with four consecutive years of them posting losses. But now, as one should have expected all along, Nintendo seems to be striking back. We already knew that, in the wake of Mario Kart 8, Wii U sales are rising; we knew that, in the wake of that game and a very successful E3, more people are inclined to get the Wii U than ever before; we already knew that they had posted a profit last quarter, and expected to post a profit for the entire year.

What we didn’t know was just how crazy it would all be. It appears that the triple whammy of Pokemon OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire (which has already sold 7.7 million units worldwide), Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and- and this is the most important one- Nintendo’s NFC figurines, Amiibos have given Nintendo incredible momentum going into this holiday season, and their profits are expected to triple, according to Bloomberg.

“Nintendo has picked up good momentum heading into the Christmas season,” said Tomoaki Kawasaki, a Tokyo-based analyst with Iwai Cosmo Securities Co., who raised his rating to neutral plus last month. “This time they have a hit lineup. Amiibo represents a new revenue source, and we are watching it very closely.”

Bloomberg itself estimated that sales of Amiibo are expected to raise $1 billion in revenue in the US alone- such crazy sales would single handedly make up for the losses Nintendo has suffered over the last four years, and would provide them with the necessary financial footing to go into the next generation on a strong foot.

Wii U lifetime sales currently stand at 7.2 million units, although Nintendo expects the number to be at 9.5 million units by the end of this financial year; the 3DS currently stands at 45 million units, though Nintendo is aiming for that to be over 50 million units. Recent hits for both platforms, in addition to the ones stated- Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Hyrule Warriors, and Mario Kart 8, of course- should all help maintain momentum.
