Check out these cool deals.

Another week, another set of deals are available to Xbox One owners, as long as they are also members of Xbox Live Gold. The Xbox deals with gold for the week was released yesterday and among the best deals is Rainbow Six Siege for 50 percent off. With that big a discount, it means fans of the game who haven’t pulled the trigger on a purchase can get the game for just $25.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is also on offer, though only the digital deluxe and gold editions are sporting the 40 percent discount. That means you can get the gold edition for $35.99 and the deluxe edition for $59.99 instead of the usual $100 price-tag.

Other games that might be attractive if not as well known include Among the Sleep for just $7.50 and several others games which have a discount from 50 percent to 67 percent off.

Horror game taking place from child's perspective still AWOL on PS4.

Krillbite Studio’s unorthodox horror title Among the Sleep, which released in May 2014 to average critical acclaim, seems to have found some measure of financial success. The developer announced at GDC 2015 (via Eurogamer) that the indie game sold more than 100,000 copies. Considering its original funding goal was $200,000 on Kickstarter, that’s not bad.

Among the Sleep has you playing as a toddler who must survive against a shadowy being that haunts him throughout the game. You have a talking teddy bear as your ally but that only adds to the weirdness. Issues of parental abuse and separated families are explored throughout, marking a departure from the usual ghosts and demons of other horror titles.

Currently available on Linux, Mac and PC, Among the Sleep was supposed to release on PS4 as well and support Sony’s VR headset Project Morpheus. Hopefully, Morpheus or not, it releases sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for more information.

Krillbite talks about bringing its fantasy horror drama to the PS4.

Krillbite’s Among the Sleep isn’t your traditional psychological horror title – in fact, in many places it comes across as more dark fantasy than horror. Nonetheless, the frights that come with controlling a two year old child stuck between separated parents is chronicled in a most unorthodox way. After releasing for PC, Among the Sleep will be making its way to the PS4 soon and GamingBolt got in touch with the developer to learn more. We also learned about the reason for choosing PS4 over the Xbox One, the resolution and frame rate on the PS4 version and the initial critical reception to the game. Luckily, Krillbite PR and graphic designer Adrian Tingstad Husby has provided us with everything we need to know about the game in preparation for its current gen console release.

Rashid K. Sayed: Among The Sleep is not scheduled for the Xbox One. Is there a specific reason behind the same?

It’s mostly a question about resources. As a small indie team, developing for consoles can be very demanding, so we decided to focus our attention at the PS4 for now. Also, Sony have been very eager and pleasant to deal with, and just as the Oculus Rift, we find Project Morpheus a perfect match for Among the Sleep!

"Simultaneously shipping is very challenging, especially for small indie teams. The clause (if enforced) means it might not be possible for us to release on Xbox One, even though we wanted to."

Rashid K. Sayed: The game has received mixed reviews so far. What are your thoughts on this?

As expected! Many people seem to really like the game, while others not so much, we’re perfectly fine with that. There are aspects of the game we really like, but there’s definitely room for improvement as well. As our first game ever, straight out of University College, just getting reviews is almost reward enough! Being covered in basically every major outlet on the other hand, is just absurd.

Rashid K. Sayed: Can you tell us about the difference between the PS4 and PC versions of the game?

There are basically no differences in content, except from the Morpheus support. The differences are mostly technical.

Rashid K. Sayed: Is the PS4 version running at 60fps for and 1080p?

That’s the target! But the PS4 version is still in development, so this is not definite.

Rashid K. Sayed: What are your thoughts on the Xbox One parity clause for indie games. One can think this will actually allow for better games on Xbox Live as the user won’t be simply overload with indie games good or bad. What is your take on this?

Well, as a small developer working to release our first game, it’s rather brutal. Simultaneously shipping is very challenging, especially for small indie teams. The clause (if enforced) means it might not be possible for us to release on Xbox One, even though we wanted to.

Rashid K. Sayed: Tell us how you decided to bring the game on the PlayStation 4?

I guess this is answered in the first question!

"Porting the game to PS4 is more about making our systems work with the PS4 architecture."

Rashid K. Sayed: What are your thoughts on the resolution and frame rate debate that is going on? What do you prefer; a higher resolution or higher frame rate?

For me it’s dependant on the game, but in general I’m not an advocate for either above the other. If anything is terrible, it will of course impact your experience, but I care much more about gameplay, aesthetics, and the game itself. As long as the game is good, I won’t care about subtle variations in resolution or frame rate.

Rashid K. Sayed: What is one technical aspect about the PS4 which is not talked about a lot but you liked the most?

Ironically, they have some cool tools for developers that we can’t talk about! As a gamer though, Project Morpheus both looks and feels really promising.

Rashid K. Sayed: Generally speaking gaming PC don’t come loaded with 8GB of RAM. When you started working on the PS4 version were you overwhelmed by the amount of memory it offered?

It didn’t really change that much for us, we’ve not really been close to these restrictions on PC either, so for us, porting the game to PS4 is more about making our systems work with the PS4 architecture.

Rashid K. Sayed: What are you guys currently working on?

Currently we’re finishing the PS4 version of Among the Sleep and developing a free DLC in collaboration with our Kickstarter backers (which was one of our Stretch goals). In addition we’re deep into planning our next project! More on that later.

Krillbrite Studios’ Adrian Tingstad Husby believes it's the gameplay that matters.

Krillbrite Studios’ Adrian Tingstad Husby has shared his thoughts on the on going resolution and fps debate between Sony and Microsoft’s gaming community. The PlayStation 4 has been able to render most multiplatform games at better resolution and frame rate compared to the Xbox One. But does this matter in the grand scheme of things?

We asked Adrian whether he prefers a better resolution or frame rate. “For me it’s dependent on the game, but in general I’m not an advocate for either above the other,” he said to GamingBolt. “If any one is terrible, it will of course impact your experience, but I care much more about gameplay, aesthetics, and the game itself. As long as the game is good, I won’t care about subtle variations in resolution or frame rate.”

In short, it’s all about the gameplay according to Adrian. And given that most gamers who buy their games regardless of frame rate and resolution specifications, Adrian makes a fair point.

What about yourself? Do you agree with Adrian’s point of view? Let us know in the comments section below.

“Simultaneously shipping is very challenging, especially for small indie teams.”

Microsoft has this policy wherein if indie developers want to release their games on the Xbox One, they would need to launch it alongside other platforms. If the developer has ever released the game on any other platform first, say the PS4, the game cannot launch on Microsoft’s console. However there have been a few exceptions to this case in the past but the policy is no doubt a deal breaker for smaller independent developers.

Speaking to Krillbrite Studios’ Adrian Tingstad Husby, GamingBolt asked whether there is a specific reason behind not launching Among The Sleep on the Xbox One.

“It’s mostly a question about resources. As a small indie team, developing for consoles can be very demanding, so we decided to focus our attention at the PS4 for now. Also, Sony have been very eager and pleasant to deal with,” he said to GamingBolt.

We also asked about his thoughts on the Xbox One parity clause for indie games and whether this will actually allow for better games on Xbox Live as the user won’t be simply overload with indie games good or bad. “Well, as a small developer working to release our first game, it’s [the policy] rather brutal. Simultaneously shipping is very challenging, especially for small indie teams. The clause (if enforced) means it might not be possible for us to release on Xbox One, even though we wanted to.”

Krillbrite Studios are currently working on the PS4 version of Among The Sleep.

Krillbite Studios' Adrian Tingstad Husby on PS4's memory.

Sony have received a lot of praise for including 8GB of RAM in its latest console, the PlayStation 4. Including the fast GDDR5 RAM memory has enabled the console to have faster access paths between the CPU and GPU, and the results are better multiplatform games on the PlayStation 4. However not all developers were overwhelmed by Sony’s move to include faster RAM.

“It didn’t really change that much for us,” Krillbite Studios’ Adrian Tingstad Husby said to GamingBolt. “We’ve not really been close to these restrictions on PC either, so for us, porting the game to PS4 is more about making our systems work with the PS4 architecture.”

It’s important to note that Adrian is not criticizing Sony’s move to include 8GB RAM but is simply stating his perspective from a development point of view. Krillbite Studios are currently working on porting Among the Sleep a first-person survival horror adventure.

He also revealed that they are targeting 1080p and 60fps. “That’s the target! But the PS4 version is still in development, so this is not definite.”

Thoughts? Let us know in the comments section below.

The PlayStation 4 version is slated to follow at a later date, and will include support for Sony’s VR headset for their console.

Among the Sleep is one of the Kickstarter success stories, having been fully funded back in 2013. The game sees players play a two-year-old who is roused out of bed in the middle of a night by a series of inexplicable events that may or may not be paranormal in nature. Guided by his sentient teddy bear, the boy must successfully navigate the hellish, nightmarish saga that soon unfolds around him, without succumbing to any of it.

So far, the game is just confirmed for PS4 and PC. The developers have hinted at other consoles getting the title, but they have never confirmed anything either way. You can read our interview for Among The Sleep here. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage regarding the game either way.

Krillbite’s Among the Sleep is confirmed to be heading to the PlayStation 4 according to a post by the developer PlayStation Blog. The game was originally announced for PC after it successfully met its Kickstarter goal.

Among the Sleep is a horror title played from the first person but unlike games like Outlast or Daylight, you’ll be playing as a two-year old toddler exploring his environment. Things after all do look much scarier to a child than an adult and you’ll be far more vulnerable here.

With a release on PS4, Krillbite is also looking to explore the use of Sony’s Project Morpheus VR headset. To accommodate those who backed the game, the developer is looking into offering them a deal on the PlayStation 4 version. There’s no word on when exactly Among the Sleep will be out on PS4 or how it will differ from the PC version. So stay tuned for more details.

Dev "in dialogues with Sony" about a PS4 release.

Upcoming PC horror thriller title Among The Sleep could make its way to the PS4 as well, says developer Krillbite Studios. Among The Sleep is unique in its concept because it features a toddler as its main character and promises to be an extremely atmospheric horror title.

Developer Krillbite Studios says it’s currently “in dialogues with Sony about a possible PS4 release” but also warns everyone that a PS4 release is not entirely possible in many ways.

“We do want as many people as possible to be able play the game on their preferred platform,” the devs said, “but with our limited resources the consoles might still be a bit inaccessible for us. We’ll see!”

Among the Sleep is due out sometime this year, but for those who want to see just what exactly it will be that they might be getting into, there’s a a free alpha version of the game available for download on the developer’s site.

Stay tuned for more updates.

An 'scary' interview with Krillbite Studios.

The Survival horror genre is on the decline. Games which were meant to horrify the common gamer have now gone the action route. If you look at the past couple of years, the horror genre has now shifted from premium developers to the talented indie developers. Take Amnesia for example. Personally, it’s one of the greatest and scariest horror game ever made.

One such game inspired from Amnesia is Among the Sleep. It’s a game where you take a role of a two year old toddler and survive against some dark forces. We got a chance to interview Adrian Tingstad Husby from Krillbite Studios and asked a few questions.

Read on for the full interview.

Kartik Mudgal: Among the Sleep is quite an intriguing game. What made you guys come up with a game concept like that?

Krillbite Studios: The idea was born out of the dreams of our lead game designer Anders Ugland. One night, he imagined a child fleeing from a monster in his room and hiding underneath a stair – all visualized in first person perspective. We started playing around with it as part of our thesis project, and were so intrigued by the concept that we decided to establish a company and continue working on it after graduating. And it has now gradually turned into Among the Sleep. It’s both challenging and satisfying to work with a 2 year old protagonist, because there really are no limitations to what we can do, but we still need to define a meaningful experience in that setting.

Kartik Mudgal: Tell us something about the game mechanics. It’s supposed to be an interactive experience, how exactly does it work?

Krillbite Studios: The teaser we have published is captured entirely in-game, and really depicts how some of the gameplay will work. It’ll play very much like a first person game, with a focus on exploration and atmosphere instead of gameplay systems like combat. So we are working a lot with physical interaction with the world, letting players walk and crawl around, push, pull and climb chairs to reach places, open and close doors, make staircases out of drawers, peek around corners, lift, place and throw smaller objects – and the list goes on. We’re also aiming to include some puzzle and adventure elements, but our focus lies on exploration and horror.

Kartik Mudgal: Such a concept is quite ambitious, so executing it will be a bit tough. Are you guys confident of pulling it off? The video I’ve seen looks quite good, mind.

Krillbite Studios: It’s definitely a challenging project to work with, especially considering it’s our first project of this scope ever. But we’re learning a bunch as we go, and judging from our progress this far we are confident that we’ll reach our vision without too many compromises.

Kartik Mudgal: So how do you guys go about immersing the player? Clever use of lighting techniques, animations and visual style must be a key, right?

Krillbite Studios: Definitely! Another design-oriented element we think will contribute, is utilizing the players own imagination. For instance, if you hear a sound and only see the vague contours of something moving, the experience is often much more powerful than if you get a clear view and are allowed time to study potential threats. In the tangible and concrete situations, a lot of the mysticism and uncertainty can disappear, and players start seeing the mechanical aspects instead of immersing themselves. In addition we’re working to nail the soundscape to build atmosphere and immersion.

Kartik Mudgal: What type of puzzles can we expect? The descriptions mentions something about challenging your creativity with physical and mental obstacles. Can you elaborate a bit more on this?

Krillbite Studios: Absolutely! We aim to include the surrealistic theme of dreams and childrens imagination, not only as a setting, but also as a more active part of the game. For instance in specific puzzles. Also, what one sees in subtle and scary games, is that preparing mentally to enter the next room can constitute an interesting mental obstacle as well.

Kartik Mudgal: Why did you guys feel first-person view is the best way to present the game. Why not a third-person view? I do admit it makes sense, but what’s your logic behind this?

Krillbite Studios: One of the most important aspects of Among the Sleep is immersion, which is naturally made difficult by the protagonist being a toddler and the target audience being adults. We want the player to feel like they are the child, and not that they are observing some other child in a baby-simulator, which is what easily happens when you constantly watch a baby crawl around. We actually gave third person camera a try once, for the fun of it, and it certainly gave a whole other experience, just not the one we were looking for. By making it as easy as possible to relate to the child, by using first person and removing some of the expected baby crying for instance, we hope people will be able to relate more to the protagonist, and hence be more immersed. Also, the limited overview of a first person camera adds a lot to horror.

Kartik Mudgal: Do you guys have any other projects in the pipeline? It would be interesting to at least hear about the concept.

Krillbite Studios: We’ve got a lot of projects in our backlog, but it’s still a while until Among the Sleep is done so we still want to maintain our focus on that project for a while. But we’re working a bit on our small side-project “The Plan” at the moment, which is a small experimental video game exploring issues of death and meaning, through the perspective of a fly.

Kartik Mudgal: Were there any other games you were inspired from? I mean, the interactive ones.

Krillbite Studios: I think our main source of inspiration is our own childhood and dreams, but we naturally look a lot to other games and media for inspiration as well. For example, we enjoyed (i.e. “were horrified by”) Amnesia, and it really reinforced our feeling that Among the Sleep was going to work. Some other sources of inspiration include the whimsical and at times unpleasant Majora’s Mask. And naturally we’ve all played games like System Shock, Resident Evil, Silent Hill and other horror games over the years, though I don’t think much of Among the Sleep is derived from such titles.

Kartik Mudgal: Thanks for your time. What do you guys have to say about this game to our readers?

Krillbite Studios: Get your diapers ready!

Among the Sleep is due for Windows and Mac in 2013.
