Unlimited SaGa

There are probably worse criticisms that a game could receive than “ruined the SaGa franchise” but that’s what Unlimited SaGa did. You wouldn’t know based on the game’s elegant box art with its butterflies and flowers, rendered in gorgeous water colour. It was all the more disheartening at the time because Square was releasing classics like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Drakengard, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Kingdom Hearts. Unlimited SaGa stands as proof that even Square could mess up big time (and not for the last time either).

Media Create has released the hardware and software sales for Japan for the week ending January 29. As always, the 3DS has topped the hardware charts, selling 84,789 units, about 4,000 units more than what it sold last week. The PS Vita saw a rise of only 3,000 units, but a rise nonetheless, and sold 18,942, finally managing to sell more than the PSP.

On the software side of things, Armored Core V for the PS3 made a strong debut, topping the charts by selling 163,906 units. Resident Evil: Revelations also had an impressive opening week with 146,559 units sold.

Tales of Innocence R, also a newcomer, beat Mario Kart 7 to the third spot (the latter is at #4) and sold 54,853 copies.

Namco Bandai just issued a press release in which they revealed the release date of Armored Core 5. It will be released in the Europe on March 23rd.

“Gamers have been eagerly anticipating the release of ARMORED CORE V, which will bring strategic mech combat to new heights,” said Eiichi Nakajima, studio head, FromSoftware, Inc. “With cooperative missions, a persistent online world battling for territories and epic team battles, ARMORED CORE V is the complete action shooter package.”

The all new Operator Mode gives one player a leadership role by being able to supply his Armored Core teammates with enemy positions, movements and details.

“A quick trigger finger and razor-sharp reflexes won’t always turn the tide of battle in ARMORED CORE V,” said Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, NAMCO BANDAI Games America. “The Operator adds a new layer of strategy orchestrating his team of Armored Cores to victory by finding the enemy’s weaknesses.”

Also, if you buy from Gamestop, you will get some bonus to ‘own’ in the game. Hell yeah!
