Premium subscribers can also play Armored Core, Armored Core: Project Phantasma, and Armored Core: Master of Arena on PS4 and PS5.

Sony has announced the next slate of titles for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, available starting on March 18th. The headlining titles include EA Sports UFC 5 on the PS5 and Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown for PS4 and PS5.

Among other contemporary titles are Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy, Arcade Paradise, Bang-On Balls: Chronicles, You Suck at Parking, and Syberia – The World Before for PS4 and PS5. PS4 players can look forward to Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions.

As for Premium-exclusive offerings, there’s Arcade Paradise VR for PlayStation VR2. The Classics are arguably more endearing, though, as they include Armored Core 1, Armored Core: Project Phantasma, and Armored Core: Master of Arena for PS4 and PS5. Those who enjoyed Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon may want to check them out.

As for the lackluster PS4-only offerings, Sony already confirmed plans to wind down on the same, only occasionally offering them past January 2026. Head here for more details.

"Armored Core 6 was a success. On the other hand, not everything was perfect, and there is still room to make it better, so I have no intention of stopping there," says Hidetaka Miyazaki.

After more than a decade of wowing the industry with its gene-defining Soulslike games, last year, FromSoftware brought the Armored Core franchise back with Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon. The mech action title received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike, but is the wait for the next game in the series going to be as long as it was for Armored Core 6? That much remains to be seen, but at the very least, the studio has every intention of making more games in the franchise.

Speaking in a recent interview with IGN Japan, FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki called Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon a “success”, and said that FromSoftware has “a strong desire” to continue making more instalments in the series. That said, even though Miyazaki says the studio hopes to further improve the series’ quality with future outings, right now, nothing specific has been decided.

“As you can see from the fact that we made Armored Core 6, the Armored Core series is very important to FromSoftware. We have a strong will to continue to make it in the future,” he said. “I think Armored Core 6 was a success. On the other hand, not everything was perfect, and there is still room to make it better, so I have no intention of stopping there. However, nothing concrete has been decided yet.”

In October last year, voice actor Yasuyuki Kase, who voiced Rusty (V.IV) in Armored Core 6, revealed that the game had sold around 2.8 million units worldwide.

In our review of the game, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is a wonderful return to form for a franchise that has been dormant for a very long time. Its unique mission structure that encourages experimentation, coupled with an insane level of customization is one of the game’s major highlights, and while its story takes time to get started, no two missions ever really feel the same thanks to varied objectives and excellent encounter design.” Read the full review through here.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The alleged leak also mentions details on dynamic shooting and melee combat, extensive customization, a large map, and more.

FromSoftware has become synonymous with a very particular style of games now, but while Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and the upcoming Elden Ring are very much the biggest names under the studio’s belt, fans haven’t forgotten that for the longest time, mech action series Armored Core was its bread and butter. Over the years, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki has said on multiple occasions that a new game in the mech series is in the works, but one has never actually materialized. That, however, could soon change.

Recently, a ResetEra user claimed to have received a consumer survey about a new mainline Armored Core game that featured two screenshots, a couple of gameplay clips, and text descriptions of some key details on the game. As per those descriptions (which you can read in full in the screenshots below), the game will be set in a sci-fi world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki (who, in case you’ve somehow forgotten, directed Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and the upcoming Elden Ring– in addition to Armored Core 4 before all of that).

The story seems to focus on “an unknown substance” called Melange that can “dramatically advance human society”- though it seems it also has destructive effects. Long ago, Melange “caused a cosmic catastrophe” that destroyed the planet of Bashtar, as well as the surrounding star systems. Now, with Melange activity being reported on the planet once again, competing factions are rushing to Bashtar’s remains, including governments, cults, mercenaries, and corporations.

The details make mention of extensive customization, “dynamic” third person shooter combat, and melee combat with blades and shields- and, of course, “an overwhelming sense of scale that only mecha can provide.” It seems that there’s an added emphasis on build variety, with the alleged survey boasting “a higher degree of customization”, while a larger map is also mentioned.

Of course, these are all unverified details, so until such time something is officially confirmed by either FromSoftware or series publisher Bandai Namco, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt. That said, it has been ten years since the last mainline game in the series launched, so an Armored Core 6 is long overdue at this point. Here’s hoping we hear something about it in the not-too-distant future. Until then, stay tuned for more update.

Masanori Takeuchi also says the studio would like to keep making mecha games in the future.

Though FromSoftware has carved out a solid niche for itself over the last decade or so with its Soulsborne games, which have become so much of a force in the industry that they’ve pretty much created a subgenre all by themselves, in its earlier days, the studio was synonymous with mecha-focused games. Armored Core was the series that FromSoftware banked most heavily on before Souls became their go-to franchise, but their focus has shifted away from mecha games in recent years.

While speaking with IGN, producer of the upcoming HD remaster Metal Wolf Chaos XD Masanori Takeuchi explained that the same can be attributed to a gap in mentality between the Japanese and western audiences, and how they both view mecha games, and the very concept of mechas. According to Takeuchi, while Japanese audiences look at the mechs themselves as characters of their own, for western players, they’re more of tools for the pilot than their own entities.

“I talked to a lot of people, asked a lot of questions, and my point of view is that, in Japan, in robot anime, the audience perceives the robots themselves as characters, almost the same as the people in the series,” said Takeuchi. “So a lot of mecha games are created with the concept that [the robot] is a character as well as the pilot or some other human being.”

“But in the west, I feel that robots are perceived as a tool, they’re an extension of a machine,” he continued. “Therefore, they’re not the character, they’re just something that you control, or something that you ride on. So, a Japanese-made mecha game perhaps feels weird for the western audience to play. Maybe there’s some kind of gap in the mentality.”

Takeuchi also explained that one of the reasons FromSoftware’s focus has shifted from mecha games to dark fantasy titles such as Dark Souls in recent years is simply down to how they’ve chosen to manage limited resources, and though they would very much like to keep pumping out games of both kinds, they can’t do that unless they know there’s strong demand for both.

“We didn’t intentionally say that we were going to focus on the Souls games,” he said. “Mecha games and dark fantasy games are the two main pillars of FromSoftware, but the game development cycle has become so long. We’re trying to readjust all our limited resources. So in an ideal world we’d keep pumping out both games, but that’s just the situation. But you should very strongly say you want another mecha game.”

Metal Wolf Chaos XD, which was originally due out in 2018, will be launching some time in 2019 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Meanwhile, if you’ve been waiting for FromSoftware to get back to Armored Core, there’s hope for that yet as well.

From Software reassures fans of its cult hit franchise that a new game in the series will come.

While From Software hit the big time with the success of their Souls series, they had been a fan favorite thanks to their cult hit Armoed Core franchise, featuring mech combat in a perplexingly richly detailed world.

And Armored Core has not been forgotten- From Software has already indicated previously that it will be working on a new game in the franchise in the future, and now, speaking during a Famitsu interview, From Software’s President Hidetaka Miyazaki (also known as the guy behind the Souls phenomenon to begin with) confirmed that a new game in the Armored Core franchise is under development, referencing a meme among Japanese fans of the franchise where a new Armored Core game is always developed in response to any conflict. He also confirmed that the upcoming PlaySation VR game Deracine, which was announced during E3 by Sony, is not one of the three major projects From Software has previously mentioned it is working on.

So, in other words- don’t worry, a new Armored Core game is coming- and it looks like it might have a proper, full fledged development team at From working on it, to boot.

Be as hopeful as you want, these games just won't make the E3 2018 cut.

For all the games that we hope will appear at E3 2018, or all the games that actually are appearing, there are some titles that just won’t be there. “Never say never” and all that according to The Fray but if these games are seen at this year’s E3, we’d be stunned. So let’s run down the list of all 14 candidates below.

Quantum Break 2

We know that Remedy Entertainment’s project codenamed P7 will be showcased at E3 2018. That’s a multiplatform project though – what about rumours of Quantum Break 2? Is it possible that P7 is actually Quantum Break 2 and we’ll see it appear? Well, no. The IP belongs to Microsoft and it’s unlikely to ever come to other platforms, let-alone be the same multiplatform project that Remedy is currently working on. While a sequel isn’t out of the question, it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing it this year.

From Software might be better known for their work on the Souls series these days, but they used to be the gatekeeper to the popular robot piloting Armored Core series. While its been dormant since 2013’s Armored Core Verdict Day, we now know that From isn’t leaving the series for dead thanks to statements released during the Armored Core 20th Anniversary livestream.

The developer took to Twitter to celebrate the series and reaffirm that while there’s nothing to announce right now, the series is not dead, asking fans to wait just a little longer. In a second tweet, the company shared the release of a 20th Anniversary Armored Core PS4 theme for release the next day. It is unknown if the theme will release in the west currently.

The studio president, Hidetaka Miyazaki had first made statements that From was working on a new Armored Core title back in 2016. While fans didn’t get a release date, they at least get to know that the Armored Core Franchise is alive, a feeling Megaman fans now know as well.

The game will be set in the same world as that of the Front Mission series, and will be a third-person shooter game with a focus on survival.

Square Enix’s new project Left Alive was recently announced at the Playstation Press Conference in Japan. What has gamers excited are the people working on the game, as it will be directed by Toshifumi Nabeshima who had joint Square Enix back in 2015 (he had previously worked on the Armored Core series at From Software) and the character designs will be handled by the Metal Gear series’ Yoji Shinkawa. Takayuki Anase, having worked on the mech design for Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Xenoblade Chronicles X, will be working on the design of the mechas in the game known as Wanzers.

The game will play out as a third person shooter with its main emphasis on survival and will follow three different protagonists at different times. The game will be set in the same world as the Front Mission Series and will take place in the year 2127, which chronologically places it in between the events of Front Mission 5 and Front Mission Evolved. The setting of the game is a city in Russia that is in the middle of a war, and which inevitably affects the lives of the protagonists.

Left Alive will feature replayability elements and will also allow players to progress in whatever direction they choose. However, the game will not feature multiple endings, although character arcs can be affected depending on how they are played out through the course of the game.

While Wanzers cannot be customized, players will be able to make use of crafting to enhance their abilities. Moreover, players won’t be spending all their times in the Wanzers and will mainly encounter them as enemies which they can then steal and use as their own.

As of now, the game will be mainly focused on offline gameplay, and it is unknown what form multiplayer gameplay may take. The team said, “We’re not saying there aren’t any online elements, but they’ll be a bonus if we have them.” All in all, the game seems ready to change up the formula of the Front Mission series in significant ways. This is why the team didn’t want to simply make a sequel, as the new game allows them to look at the world of the Front Mission series through a different perspective.

The game is currently said be half-completed and is set to release for the PC and Playstation 4 in 2018.

Square Enix's post-apocalyptic mech title looks a lot like Front Mission.

Update: Left Alive has been described as a “survival action shooter” that will also be coming to PC.

Original Story:

A strange new game was announced by Square Enix at Sony’s TGS presser – it’s called Left Alive and judging by the teaser released, it seems to take place in a post-apocalyptic setting with huge mechs.

It actually reminds us of the company’s vaunted Front Mission series. So when you hear that the director is Toshifumi Nabeshima, who produced the Armored Core games for From Software along with directing the first game and writing the script for Dark Souls 2, things get interesting. Producer Shinji Hashimoto is also on board as is Yoji Shinkawa, the man known for his legendary character designs in the Metal Gear and Zones of the Enders franchises.

Left Alive doesn’t have any more information apart from this but it will be exclusive to the PS4 and release sometime in 2018 for Japan. Details on a Western release are still pending. Perhaps more updates and gameplay could be offered on September 21st when the Tokyo Game Show begins? Here’s hoping.

And of course, a new Armored Core game.

Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed that From Software are working on a number of games. One of them is a game that will have a dark fantasy tone to it, the other is a new Armored Core title (which was confirmed recently) and the third one is a weird game that will surprise a lot of players.

“So there are several titles that we are currently working on […] Some of those are dark fantasy, some of those could be a mech [game] – that’s one thing. The second thing is that one of the new titles I’ve been working on will probably comply with the expectations from the fans in straightforward manner,” he said to IGN.

“Yeah, we’re already working on Armored Core.”

“The last thing is that another title will probably be a little bit weird. When we actually announce the title, probably fans will react with ‘oh, what the hell is this very weird game that Miyazaki has created?'”

It will be interesting to see what the dark fantasy game is. It cannot be a new Souls game so perhaps it’s the next Bloodborne. We will update you whenever these new games get announced.
