Releasing artworks, be it by publishers themselves or fans who just cannot wait for their favourite games to come out, has become an important part of this industry now. Not only do they provide us with tons of information on the game just by looking at them, they’re also visually stimulating (if done right). A lot of games have gotten some great artwork recently, and some of these artworks weren’t even made by the developers of these games. Listed below are ten such artworks we found for recent and/or upcoming games.

Mario Kart 7 logo and artwork revealed

New artwork and a logo of Mario Kart 7 have been officially revealed. The artwork shows Mario, Luigi and Bowser riding some karts.

Mario Kart 7 was (along with Super Mario 3D Land) officially named last week, and its release date was also announced. The game will be releasing in December on the 3DS.

Dragon’s Dogma official, first screenshot and video

Capcom’s revealed Dragon’s Dogma to the public today, confirming its much expected existence.

The game’s an open-world RPG, which pits players in a fantasy world where a dragon has invaded a village to steal the chosen one’s heart.

The dragon manages to fly away with his heart but our hero continues to live and must search for the dragon and reclaim his heart, before it’s too late.

The game’s being developed by ex-DMC guys and looks to be rather promising.

The game’s heading for a 2012 release for PS3 and Xbox 360.

New Batman: Arkhum City concept art released

Eidos has released a new piece of concept art for Batman: Arkhum City over at their official facebook page and it shows the Bat looking over the city as rains pour down upon him and is vintage batman stuff.

Not much is hinted about the game but it looks pretty awesome.

Arkhum City is coming for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

SquareEnix releases ‘Final Fantasy XIII Gallery’ for iPhone

Kotaku has reported that SE will be releasing a collection of art for the iPhone.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the app is just a licence to print money an artbook, although there are a calendar and clock incorporated into the app – whether to act as a flimsy barricade for the publisher to deflect criticism over the app’s limited utility is yet to be determined.

It’s unknown how many images are actually included in the app, but what is known is that early purchasers are “clamoring [sic] for more images”. SE have stated that the high-definition artwork, showing eye-achingly-clear pictures of lightning, snow and choccobos is not available in-game or from the website. However, at USD$8.99 the app is a little more than expensive for what is essentially a collection of artwork (for now) unobtainable anywhere else.

Will the rabid devotion of the legions of fanboys (and fangirls) outweigh the uselessness of the app, and compell them to purchase it? Time will tell.
