Ubisoft gives a few details on The Tyranny of King Washington DLC for Assassin's Creed 3.

Ubisoft has revealed a few details for its upcoming DLC titles “The Tyranny of King Washington” for Assassin’s Creed 3, while talking about how different it is and how it wanders away from tropes of the series while retaining a certain sense of identity. The DLC is set in an alternate timeline after the British are driven away, and sees Washington as the tyrannical king of the United States. People Connor knows to be dead are now alive, and his tribe can grant people special superpowers with the help of herbal tea. The catch? Only Connor can remember all his actions in AC3 throughout the DLC, which releases in three episodes.

“By the end of the last episode you will see how this relates to Connor and the real George Washington,” game director Marc-Alexis Côté told Eurogamer. “”This experience is canon.”

“We threw a lot of ideas around, but you need to find the ones that are core to the experience,” he said when talking about a few more ideas the team had for the DLC that were maybe a bit too over the top. “That’s one of the things you do during a game’s conception period. You give yourself no limits.”

He then want to talk a little bit about the story of the DLC and how it will progress. “The first episode starts with a 15-20 second video that’s all garbled, but you can un-garble that if you collect all the memory artefacts,” Côté said. “It’s actually a two-minute video – we just took images from it for the garbled montage.”

“Right from the start, Connor is questioning that things aren’t right,” he continued. “He’s asking ‘Why is my mother alive?’ You understand that this is all related to Connor but you don’t know how or why it is canon. But, by the end, you will understand – and it’s a great, clear-cut end to the story.”

The DLC includes mechanics ranging from the weirdest of the weirdest, including stuff like the power of flight to a cloak that makes you temporarily invisible.

“I can certify that this DLC is not a tea dream,” Côté concluded. “There’s a lot more to it than that.”

Certainly sounds a lot different from what people have come to expect from this series, but it does sound intriguing It will be interesting to see how this experiment pans out.

"The Tyranny of King Washington"

Ubisoft has announced a new (and the first ever) DLC for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 3, and it’s titled The Tyranny of the King Washington. Going against series traditions, this DLC will take us into a bit of alternate history, and will show one of the founding fathers of America, Goerge Washington, becoming the king of U.S.A. after the revolution ends.

“As the revolution comes to a close, a new and most unexpected enemy emerges,” Ubisoft explains in its press release. “Driven by the desire to secure the fate of the colonies, the greatest hero of the revolution, George Washington, succumbs to the temptation of infinite power. The new King is born and his reign leaves no one untouched. To return freedom to the land our new hero must dethrone a tyrant he once called friend.”

As you might have noticed, this is a single player campaign DLC. It will be available via the $30 season pass. No news on whether or not it can be purchased separately, but we’re guessing that will be possible, sooner or later.

“History is our playground – and AC teams have always loved playing with historical facts and their consequences as a way to better understand a time period,” said Sebastien Puel, Executive Producer at Ubisoft. “While Assassin’s Creed III concentrates on history as it happens, we wanted to take some liberties with this DLC and tell you how things ‘could have happened.’”

Sounds interesting. Does this tempt you to buy the Season Pass? Tell us in your comments.

Assassin’s Creed III releases on October 30 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, with a later release planned for the PC and the Wii U. Stay tuned for more info.
