A new report claims Ubisoft has as many as 11 Assassin's Creed games on the docket, of which five have yet to be officially confirmed.

Even if we were to go only by the games Ubisoft has officially talked about, it’s clear that the company has a great many things planned for Assassin’s Creed, with a number of new instalments in its flagship franchise being confirmed to be in the works.

However, in addition to the games that the company has confirmed are in the works, it seems almost just as many unannounced titles are also on the docket. That’s as per a new report published by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson. In a previous report, Henderson briefly detailed several of these unannounced titles, and has now reiterated those reports and added new details.

The most prominent of these is allegedly a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, which was recently in the headlines courtesy of a rumour. As per Henderson, the remake “has only just been greenlit”.

In addition, Ubisoft Sofia (Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, Assassin’s Creed Rogue) is said to be working on a single player game codenamed Project Nebula, which is currently in the prototype stage and will feature three settings- India, the Aztec Empire, and the Mediterranean.

Then there’s Project Raid, a free-to-play 4 player co-op game developed by Ubisoft Chengdu that will allegedly features characters from across the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and Project Echoes, a multiplayer title by Ubisoft Annecy that will make use of Ubisoft’s Scalar technology. Henderson also claims that a sequel to Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR is also being discussed internally.

Beyond these, Ubisoft currently has six Assassin’s Creed games confirmed to be in development- Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is due out this year; Assassin’s Creed Project RED, which, as per Henderson’s report, is targeting a 2024 launch; Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE, which is allegedly in pre-production and targeting a 2025/26 launch; mobile game Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade; aforementioned virtual reality title Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR; and multiplayer game Assassin’s Creed Codename Invictus.

The visual filter will give players the option to apply the desaturated blue-gray look of the original Assassin's Creed to Mirage's visuals.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is going to take the series back to its roots when it launches later this year. A recent behind-the-scenes development video released by Ubisoft touches on that particular aspect of the experience, and how it will refocus on gameplay elements like parkour, stealth, and assassinations to deliver a more classic Assassin’s Creed experience.

That’s not the only way the upcoming action-adventure title will be appealing to veteran fans of the franchise though. In the video, the developer has also revealed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will feature a “nostalgic” visual filter that will apply a desaturated blue-gray look to the game’s graphics, making them look shockingly close to what the original Assassin’s Creed looked like. Check it out in action in the video below.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is due out on October 12 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Ubisoft has six Assassin's Creed titles officially confirmed to be in development, while reports have suggested four more are in the pipeline.

Assassin’s Creed has been Ubisoft’s flagship franchise for as long as it’s been around, and having grown massively over the years, it’s obviously not going away anytime soon. In fact, Ubisoft is planning on expanding it even further by a significant degree, with the aim of increasing the number of people working on the franchise by a whopping 40%.

The same was confirmed by CEO Yves Guillemot during the company’s most recent earnings call (via VGC). Guillemot says the expansion will happen “over the coming years” as part of Ubisoft’s “progressive reallocation of resources”. Currently, the company already has over 2,000 people working on the Assassin’s Creed franchise across a number of studios.

“As part of our progressive reallocation of resources, we notably plan to increase the number of talents working on the Assassin’s Creed brand by 40% over the coming years,” Guillemot said.

Currently, Ubisoft has six Assassin’s Creed titles that are confirmed to be in development. Closest to launch is Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is likely to get its long-awaited gameplay reveal at the Ubisoft Forward showcase next month, though reports have claimed that the game has been internally delayed to October. The next two mainline instalments after that, Codename RED and Codename HEXE, are also currently in the works.

An open world action RPG for mobile devices is in development in the form of Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade, in addition to VR title Nexus and standalone multiplayer game Invictus.

As per leaks from earlier this year, in addition to the aforementioned six titles, Ubisoft has another four in varying stages of production that it hasn’t yet publicly spoken about- Project Nebula, a game that will feature three distinct settings; Project Raid, a free-to-play four-player co-op title; Project Echoes, a multiplayer game built on Ubisoft’s Scalar cloud computing technology; and a sequel to the aforementioned Nexus.

A new report claims that Ubisoft is going "all in" on the franchise, with a total of 10 games currently in varying stages of production.

Assassin’s Creed has been Ubisoft’s premier flagship franchise for well over a decade and a half at this point, and unsurprisingly, the company is looking to invest in it even further. As per a report published by Tom Henderson on Insider Gaming, there are currently a total of 10 Assassin’s Creed games in varying stages of production, of which several haven’t yet been officially spoken about. As per the report, the company is “going all in” on Assassin’s Creed, alongside “some other major franchises”.

One of those games is Project Nebula, a new title developed by Ubisoft Sofia, the studio that handled Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation and Assassin’s Creed Rogue. Reportedly, Project Nebula will have three different settings, namely India, the Aztec Empire, and the Mediterranean.

Then there’s Project Raid, a free-to-play four-player co-op title developed by Ubisoft Chengdu, which will allegedly feature playable characters from across the franchise’s history. Another unannounced title mentioned by the report is Project Echoes, a multiplayer game built on Ubisoft’s Scalar cloud computing technology, built by Ubisoft Annecy, which has previously worked on the multiplayer components of past Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell titles and provided support on The Division 2.

The report also mentions that a sequel to unannounced VR title Assassin’s Creed Nexus is also already being discussed internally by Ubisoft.

Of course, in addition to the aforementioned titles, Ubisoft also has a number of Assassin’s Creed titles in the works that have been officially spoken about by the company, including Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Codename RED, Codename HEXE, Codename JADE, and the multiplayer title Invictus.

As per the report, Ubisoft is looking to revert to the series’ annual release schedule. Though delays are never out of the question (especially with modern-day Ubisoft), the current plan (allegedly) is to launch Mirage and Nexus in 2023, Codename RED in 2024, Invictus in 2025, and Codename HEXE in 2026.

It’s also been claimed that Codename RED is in good shape behind the scenes and will feature two playable characters- read more on that through here.
