<p>A <a href="https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/news/ignt.58630/assassin-s-creed-into-2026" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">recent brand update</a> from Ubisoft has given us quite a bit of exciting news on a bunch of <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed</em> projects in development, including a long-awaited update on the standalone multiplayer title, <em>Invictus</em>.</p>



<p>Having been relatively AWOL <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-invictus-standalone-multiplayer-title-could-be-free-to-play">since its announcement in 2022</a>, the studio is &#8220;exploring ways&#8221; to get you playing it and setting up a feedback loop to make it all that it aims to be. Vantage Studios Head of Content Jean Guesdon featured front and center on the announcement, and had this to say about it:</p>



<p>&#8220;We understand there&#8217;s a lot of curiosity around this project: yes, it&#8217;s a new approach to multiplayer in the franchise, but it isn&#8217;t quite what the rumors have suggested. With player feedback at the heart of our approach, we&#8217;re exploring ways to bring the community in earlier so we can shape the experience together.&#8221;</p>



<p>After missing its <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-invictus-is-reportedly-still-launching-this-year-rumor" data-type="link" data-id="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-invictus-is-reportedly-still-launching-this-year-rumor">rumored</a> release window of last year, <em>Invictus&#8217;s</em> launch continues to be a mystery, although we&#8217;re hopeful we might get to play a version of it at some point in the near future. It also seems that the developers paid attention to <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-shadows-will-add-a-co-op-mode-after-launch-rumour">chatter</a> about co-op being added to <em>Shadows, </em>about which Guesdon said:<br><br>&#8220;We&#8217;re also looking into bringing co‑op back to <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed</em> &#8211; a detail we know didn&#8217;t go unnoticed. And while we recently chose to pivot away from an early project, the lessons from that work are already helping shape our approach going forward.&#8221;<br><br>Whether that project was the <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-co-op-project-league-has-been-cancelled-rumor" data-type="post" data-id="636542">recently cancelled <em>LEAGUE</em></a> or something else entirely remains to be seen, but we&#8217;re smiling at a future in which we get to play <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed</em> with &#8211; and potentially against &#8211; our gaming buddies. There was also an <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-4-black-flag-remake-officially-confirmed-by-ubisoft-in-new-resynced-concept-art">update</a> on <em>Black Flag Resynced</em> (finally!), and <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-unity-is-getting-a-60-fps-update-for-xbox-series-x-s-and-ps5" data-type="post" data-id="638558">an update to <em>Unity</em> that adds 60 FPS support</a>. The Brotherhood might just be getting very active in the coming months, although the team is choosing a quality over quantity approach to the franchise&#8217;s future.</p>

<p>Following <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/prince-of-persia-the-sands-of-time-remake-cancelled-as-ubisoft-undergoes-major-reset" data-type="post" data-id="635268">its massive internal reset</a>, Ubisoft is in a cluster these days. Between cancelled projects, rumored titles like <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-4-black-flag-remake-originally-scheduled-for-march-19th-delayed-to-2027-rumor"><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed: Black Flag Resynced </em>getting delayed</a>, and<em> </em><a href="https://gamingbolt.com/beyond-good-and-evil-2-remains-a-priority-for-ubisoft-over-15-years-since-initial-reveal"><em>Beyond Good and Evil 2</em> remaining in development, it&#8217;s a mess</a>. However, even before that, the fate of <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Invictus</em> remained thoroughly up in the air.</p>



<p>While its current development status is unknown, leaker @xj0nathan (who <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/rainbow-six-siege-2-in-development-features-graphics-update-and-engine-overhaul-rumor" data-type="post" data-id="611009">revealed details of <em>Rainbow Six Siege X</em> before launch</a>) reported that even a developer on the project doesn&#8217;t believe in the <em>Fall Guys</em>-style take on the series.</p>



<p>“Here are their words: &#8216;I don&#8217;t know a single colleague who likes <em>Invictus</em>. Only the managers will probably keep smiling and singing the praises of this project.</p>



<p>“&#8217;It&#8217;s awful: ridiculous animations, hideous and cartoonish characters (their faces are just as awful), idiotic sound and visual effects, combat arenas… the concept is just plain dismaying. I wonder who this game is even for and why it was made. Maybe it&#8217;s only meant for kids… six-year-olds? I have no idea. If that&#8217;s the case, I pity the parents of those kids who are going to be hounded for money to fuel a fresh wave of microtransactions.&#8217;”</p>



<p>When asked by Insider Gaming&#8217;s Tom Henderson if the attached image of a <em>Fall Guys</em> bean dressed as Ezio from <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed 2</em> is the actual visual style, @xj0nathan responded, “Oh no, not at all, the game is more like <em>Fortnite</em> but a little less &#8216;cartoonish.&#8217; Let&#8217;s say it&#8217;s somewhere between realistic and cel-shaded.”</p>



<p>Of course, as Henderson pointed out, there should be care in publishing statements from someone who is “clearly, and many would argue rightfully, disgruntled with everything going on,” especially if the rest of the team thinks differently. @xj0nathan agrees. “As I said in another reply, I had a similar statement last year, even before the current situation at Ubisoft, so I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s related to dissatisfaction. </p>



<p>&#8220;But at some point, you&#8217;re right, we shouldn&#8217;t implicate all the team members. Maybe some of them love this upcoming project…lol. Don&#8217;t hesitate to ask your sources about it; you might get different feedback.”</p>



<p>Announced in September 2022 alongside <em>Codename Red</em> (which would become <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Shadows</em>) and <em>Codename Hexe</em> (<a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-codename-hexe-narrative-director-says-new-lead-writer-is-working-on-other-content" data-type="post" data-id="635103">still in development</a>), <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Invictus</em> was noted to be <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-standalone-multiplayer-game-is-being-made-by-members-of-for-honor-and-rainbow-six-siege-teams">a standalone multiplayer project</a>. It involves those who worked on titles like <em>For Honor </em>and <em>Rainbow Six Siege</em>, but aside from being more approachable than previous <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed</em> multiplayer efforts, actual gameplay and concrete details have not been revealed.</p>



<p>While Henderson reported that it <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-invictus-is-reportedly-still-launching-this-year-rumor">should have launched last year</a> (which clearly hasn&#8217;t happened), there have been no official updates on <em>Invictus</em> . Time will tell if it&#8217;s next up on the chopping block.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Codename Hexe</em> will <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-codename-hexe-will-launch-after-shadows-post-launch-support-wraps-up-rumor">reportedly follow</a> the recently released<em> Assassin&#8217;s Creed Shadows,</em> seemingly offering a linear, non-RPG experience. However, given the success of the action RPG format, it would only be a matter of time before Ubisoft has another lined up.</p>
<p>According to <a href="https://insider-gaming.com/exclusive-further-details-on-the-assassins-creed-roadmap-and-what-games-to-expect/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Insider Gaming&#8217;s Tom Henderson</a>, that title is <em>Scarlet</em>, which allegedly launches after <em>Hexe&#8217;s</em> post-launch support ends. Production has begun, and though he couldn&#8217;t narrow down any more information, Henderson speculated that this is <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Nebula</em> and features India, the Mediterranean, and the Aztec Empire as settings.</p>
<p>As for <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-4-black-flag-remake-closer-to-launch-than-expected-planned-for-november-2025-prior-to-shadows-delay-rumour"><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed 4: Black Flag Remake</em></a>, it&#8217;s allegedly launching “around the same time” as <em>Invictus</em> (<a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-invictus-is-reportedly-still-launching-this-year-rumor">rumored to arrive this year</a>). The latter is a multiplayer title with 16-player matches and seemingly takes inspiration from <em>Fall Guys</em>. Furthermore, if it “aligns with internal expectations,” there are reportedly plans for five years of support.</p>
<p>Of course, with Ubisoft cancelling live-service projects <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/ubisoft-cancelled-a-splinter-cell-battle-royale-game-weeks-before-announcing-it-rumour">before they see the light of day</a> and <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/xdefiant-is-shutting-down-ubisoft-confirms">shuttering titles like<em> XDefiant</em></a>, plans could change for <em>Invictus</em>. Time will tell, so stay tuned.</p>

However, it seems that another <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed</em> project, <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-standalone-multiplayer-game-is-being-made-by-members-of-for-honor-and-rainbow-six-siege-teams"><em>Invictus</em></a>, is still on track to release this year.</p>
<p>This is according to Insider Gaming&#8217;s Tom Henderson on Twitter, who reaffirmed that the multiplayer title&#8217;s release “should be this year.” Of course, plans may have changed at Ubisoft, especially with how it shuttered live-service projects, like <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/xdefiant-is-shutting-down-ubisoft-confirms">the recent <em>XDefiant</em></a>.</p>
<p>Announced in September 2022, <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Invictus</em> is a multiplayer title that <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-invictus-standalone-multiplayer-title-could-be-free-to-play">could be free-to-play</a> and potentially feature crossovers between characters from various periods. Developers with experience working on <em>Rainbow Six Siege</em> and <em>For Honor</em> are working on the project. However, Ubisoft plans for it to be “much more approachable and mass market” than the multiplayer modes from previous entries, per VP executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>New details about Ubisoft&#8217;s planned hub for the <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed</em> franchise, titled <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Infinity</em>, have been leaked. While Ubisoft itself has been quiet about <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Infinity</em>, a <a href="https://insider-gaming.com/assassins-creed-infinty-news/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new report</a> by Insider Gaming&#8217;s Tom Henderson sheds some light on some of the features we can expect from the live service hub when it launches.</p>
<p>Set for launch on the same day as <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-mirage-codename-hexe-red-and-infinity-10-new-things-you-need-to-know"><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Codename Red</em></a>, <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Infinity</em> will basically <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-infinity-will-separate-the-modern-day-and-historical-stories">act as the modern-day story hub</a> for future titles. Footage seen by Insider Gaming showed a player going from the hub directly into <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Codename Red</em> without having to start the game up individually.</p>
<p><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Infinity</em> will similarly also act as a hub for <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-codename-hexe-will-not-be-an-rpg"><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Codename Hexe</em></a> and <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-invictus-standalone-multiplayer-title-could-be-free-to-play"><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Invictus</em></a> as well. The hub will also act as the central base for live service offerings in Assassin&#8217;s Creed titles. There will be an item shop selling cosmetic items for <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Codename Red</em> protagonists Naoe and Yasuke, dubbed The Exchange.</p>
<p>Players will also be able to partake in Projects through <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Infinity</em>, which essentially act as narrative-based battle passes, featuring more cosmetic rewards for the protagonists of <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Codename Red</em>. There will be more Projects added to <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Infinity</em> over time.</p>
<p>Tying into Ubisoft&#8217;s live service ambitions, <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Infinity</em>&#8216;s plans revolve around releasing a mainline <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed</em> title every two years, with the interim years filled out with DLCs and smaller titles. For example, while <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-codename-red-will-be-revealed-in-may-launching-in-november-rumour"><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Codename Red</em> is expected to be coming out later this year</a>, the multiplayer-only <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Invictus</em> is set for 2025, while <em>Hexe </em>is allegedly targeting a 2026 launch.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed&nbsp;</em>has been Ubisoft&#8217;s flagship franchise for as long as it&#8217;s been around, and having grown massively over the years, it&#8217;s obviously not going away anytime soon. In fact, Ubisoft is planning on expanding it even further by a significant degree, with the aim of increasing the number of people working on the franchise by a whopping 40%.</p>
<p>The same was confirmed by CEO Yves Guillemot during the company&#8217;s most recent earnings call (via <a href="https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/ubisoft-plans-to-increase-the-number-of-assassins-creed-developers-by-40/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">VGC</a>). Guillemot says the expansion will happen &#8220;over the coming years&#8221; as part of Ubisoft&#8217;s &#8220;progressive reallocation of resources&#8221;. Currently, the company already has over 2,000 people working on the&nbsp;<em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed&nbsp;</em>franchise across a number of studios.</p>
<p>&#8220;As part of our progressive reallocation of resources, we notably plan to increase the number of talents working on the <em>Assassin’s Creed</em> brand by 40% over the coming years,&#8221; Guillemot said.</p>
<p>Currently, Ubisoft has six&nbsp;<em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed&nbsp;</em>titles that are confirmed to be in development. Closest to launch is&nbsp;<em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Mirage</em>, which is likely to get its long-awaited gameplay reveal <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-mirage-gameplay-reveal-planned-for-ubisoft-forward-next-month-rumour">at the Ubisoft Forward showcase</a> next month, though reports have claimed that the game has been <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-mirage-internally-delayed-to-october-rumour">internally delayed to October</a>. The next two mainline instalments after that,&nbsp;<em><a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-codename-red-features-a-playable-samurai-and-shinobi-targeting-fall-2024-rumor">Codename RED</a>&nbsp;</em>and&nbsp;<a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-codename-hexe-will-not-be-an-rpg"><em>Codename HEXE</em></a>, are also currently in the works.</p>
<p>An open world action RPG for mobile devices is in development in the form of&nbsp;<em><a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-codename-jade-leaked-gameplay-showcases-infiltration-character-creation-and-more">Assassin&#8217;s Creed Codename Jade</a>,&nbsp;</em>in addition to VR title&nbsp;<em><a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-nexus-new-leak-details-vr-titles-combat-parkour-weapons-and-more">Nexus</a>&nbsp;</em>and standalone multiplayer game&nbsp;<a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-invictus-standalone-multiplayer-title-could-be-free-to-play"><em>Invictus</em></a>.</p>
<p>As per leaks from earlier this year, in addition to the aforementioned six titles, Ubisoft has <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/ubisoft-has-4-more-unannounced-assassins-creed-games-in-the-works-rumour">another four in varying stages of production</a> that it hasn&#8217;t yet publicly spoken about-&nbsp;<em>Project Nebula,&nbsp;</em>a game that will feature three distinct settings; <em>Project Raid</em>, a free-to-play four-player co-op title; <em>Project Echoes</em>, a multiplayer game built on Ubisoft’s Scalar cloud computing technology; and a sequel to the aforementioned&nbsp;<em>Nexus.</em></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Between all of the different <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed</em> titles announced, like the Feudal Japan-set <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-codename-red-will-feature-a-more-dynamic-world-that-evolves-around-players"><em>Codename RED</em></a> or the <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-project-red-and-project-hexe-to-be-revealed-at-ubisoft-forward-rumor">reportedly</a> occult-focused <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-codename-hexe-will-not-be-an-rpg"><em>Codename HEXE</em></a>,<em> Invictus</em> has been low-key. Vice president executive producer of <em>Assassin’s Creed</em> Marc-Alexis Côté <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-standalone-multiplayer-game-is-being-made-by-members-of-for-honor-and-rainbow-six-siege-teams">revealed</a> that the title is a standalone multiplayer project under <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-infinity-will-mix-premium-games-with-paid-and-free-content-continuously-evolve"><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Infinity</em></a>. The team consists of developers who worked on <em>Rainbow Six Siege</em> and <em>For Honor</em>.</p>
<p>The plan is to have it be &#8220;much more approachable and mass market than previous games’ multiplayer offerings.&#8221; Interestingly, it could also be free-to-play. When asked about the same, Côté told <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/what-is-assassins-creed-infinity-ubisoft-explains" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IGN</a>, “We have not finalized our plans for the business model for <em>Invictus</em>, but it is a possibility [that it will be free-to-play].&#8221;</p>
<p>How multiplayer will ultimately work, and whether it&#8217;s more co-op like <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Unity</em> or competitive like the modes in older titles, is unknown. However, Côté noted the &#8220;possibility of crossing over characters from different periods.&#8221;</p>
<p>Referring to art from a press briefing with characters from the series together, he said, “I think the concept art that we had for <em>Invictus</em> kind of hints to this possibility of crossing over characters from different periods. So I think you can see the intention there, of <em>Invictus</em> allowing us again to bridge our different games together.” While this doesn&#8217;t provide much information on the gameplay, it indicates another way to connect all the different experiences within Infinity.</p>
<p>As for now, <em>Invictus</em> has no release window. The next title in the series is <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-mirage-announced-releasing-in-2023"><em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Mirage</em></a>, which launches in 2023 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, Stadia, and Amazon Luna. It will <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/assassins-creed-mirage-will-be-15-20-hours-long-will-retail-at-50">retail for $50</a> and offer 15 to 20 hours of gameplay.</p>

<p>One of the upcoming <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed </em>projects that has been confirmed to be in development under the <em>Infinity </em>umbrella is a standalone multiplayer project, which Ubisoft is calling <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Invictus. </em>Multiplayer is, of course, something that&#8217;s been prominently features in the series in the past, from the PvP affair of everything from <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Brotherhood </em>to <em>Black Flag</em>, to the co-op offerings of <em>Unity</em>. But what can we expect from <em>Invictus</em>?</p>
<p>Speaking to <a href="https://www.videogameschronicle.com/features/future-assassins-creed-games/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">VGC</a>, vice president executive producer of <em>Assassin’s Creed</em> Marc-Alexis Côté said that <em>Invictus </em>will be much more approachable and mass market than previous games&#8217; multiplayer offerings. To that end, Ubisoft has pulled in several developers from the teams behind massively successful live service multiplayer titles <em>Rainbow Six Siege </em>and <em>For Honor</em> to help developer <em>Invictus</em>.</p>
<p>&#8220;The reasoning behind having a multiplayer initiative as well is I feel <em>Assassin’s Creed</em> can branch into different channels,&#8221; Côté said. &#8220;We’ve only scratched the surface of what we can do with the Animus with <em>Assassin’s Creed</em>. We’ve had multiplayer in the past but that was not super accessible.</p>
<p>“How can we expand upon that to have something that’s more approachable, more mass market and use this knowledge that we’ve had on games like<em> For Honor</em> and <em>Rainbow Six</em> to have a fun experience that leverages the franchise.&#8221;</p>
<p>There&#8217;s no word yet on when <em>Invictus </em>will launch, but it&#8217;s safe to assume at this point that any and all <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed </em>projects related to <em>Infinity </em>are several years away. Until then, 2023 will see the launch of <em>Assassin&#8217;s Creed Mirage, </em>so there&#8217;s that to look forward to.</p>
