Atari has just announced that it will be bringing classic single player games from the arcade days to Internet Explorer with Atari Arcade. Yes, to Internet Explorer. Don’t look at us like that, we don’t know why either.

The browser-based portal will feature Pong, Lunar Lander, Missile Command, Combat, Centipede, Super Breakout Yar’s Revenge and Asteroids – all with a fresh coat of HTML5, graphics, gameplay and social integration for Facebook and Twitter peeps.

Now, the experience isn’t exclusive to IE. All modern browsers will be able to access the Atari Arcade, but only IE users will be get an ad-free experience. Considering the ads running for the new Internet Explorer 10, which promises a brand new and fluid experience, this is a good way to keep them there, if not to lure them away from Chrome and Firefox.

There will be leaderboards and competition galore, or at least that’s the plan. Click here for more details, click here.
