Just when you thought Bethesda was down for the count with Fallout 4 – not including the Fallout 4 VR title that was showcased at E3 2017 – the company announces Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition and Pip-Boy Collector’s Edition for release in September.

Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition includes all previously released DLC including Nuka-World, Vault-Tec Workshop, Contraptions Workshop, Far Harbor, Wasteland Workshop and Automatron. Players will also avail of free updates like Survival mode and high-resolution textures, not to mention support for the heaps of mods developed thus far.

As for the Pip-Boy Collector’s Edition, it will available in North America at a few retailers. Along with a real world version of Fallout’s infamous Pip-Boy, it will also contain Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition and retails at $99.99. Both editions will be available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on September 26th.

Meanwhile, Fallout 4 VR will release in Q4 2017 for HTC Vive. Find out more about it here.

A ton of codes give you all kinds of materials to work with.

Now that Fallout 4 has gotten the Automatron DLC, it’s time for gamers to start looking for ways to have as much success as possible. Indeed, you could spend a ton of time foraging for the right parts in the right places that are made for just the right kind of robot. If you’d rather spend more of your time just exploring as well as playing other missions and taking on mutants and bad guys and less time looking to build a robot, there are a couple of cheats available. The caveat to even these cheats is that they only work if you are playing Fallout 4‘s new DLC on the PC.

There are a number of different Console Command cheat codes you can enter in order to get rare and rather expensive parts that can be used to craft robots. In order to enter the code, there are a couple of steps you’ll want to go through but it’s all pretty simple. The first step is to go into the Console Command Code function and enter player.additem 001EC137 1.

After putting in that command, you will have unlocked the ability to order a ton of different parts and supplies that will go towards building the perfect robotic companion. You can check out the full list of robotic pieces you can grab by entering certain codes below. If you haven’t yet purchased the Automatron DLC for Fallout 4, check out our review to see whether it sounds like it’s for you.

An interesting but short new quest-line and robot customization make Automatron a worthy diversion for Fallout 4 fans.

Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout 4 is a game somewhat at odds with its overall fan-base, delivering a strong open world with plenty of things to do while facing the slings and arrows of an uneventful story and not enough content. Which is fair enough given the hype surrounding the game and what was ultimately delivered, but that conflict also meant a whole lot wasn’t expected from Automatron, the first paid DLC for the shooter. You try telling your audience that a Season Pass will be raised in price and delivering more content while promising the same concept that a user-created mod provided for free. Despite those compunctions, Fallout 4‘s Automatron DLC succeeds not just because of its gameplay, prompting us to revisit the Commonwealth again, but also due to its new mechanics that suck up hours of crafting time.

"VATS will help you decide the best strategies for effectively fighting the robots and the variety in combat, that too with the addition of the new lightning chaining rifle, is a nice change of pace."

Once your version of the Sole Survivor hits level 15, you’ll receive a mysterious signal of sorts. Follow this signal and you’ll discover the robot Ada under attack by a robotic horde. Wipe out said foes, take Ada as a companion and you’re off to fight the mysterious Mechanist and halt his robot army in the process. What’s the Mechanist’s problem though? What are his motivations? What’s up with all the robots?

Well, the robots are the stars is what’s up. Right away, Automatron impresses with the attention to detail of its robots. With their own unique appearances, weaknesses and weapons, the robots provide a strong challenge that’s equal parts rewarding and frustrating. It’s a fairly different experience from the Synth war, especially since these mechanical monsters range from your “average” foot soldiers to hulking monsters armed to the teeth. You won’t be completely overwhelmed if your level is high enough but it isn’t exactly a cake walk at higher difficulties either. VATS will help you decide the best strategies for effectively fighting the robots and the variety in combat, that too with the addition of the new lightning chaining rifle, is a nice change of pace.

That variety in robot design also carries over to Automatron‘s main hook – the ability to create and customize your own robots. Along with modifying Ada, Jezebel and even Codsworth, you can take to creating completely new robots using aluminum. The options on hand are quite diverse – you can decide on the overall size of the robot, its movement options, weapons, head design and various special mods to turn it into a mechanized reaper of a companion. The ability to choose between different voices adds that extra bit of personality to each creation.

"The lore in Automatron is exceptionally compelling, providing context to the robots’ creation and their ultimately sad state of affairs."

Of course, the problem is you’ll need a certain set of perks in order to really customize your robot. Said perks include Robotics Expert, Science and Armorer and while it’s not the biggest issue when you’re level 15 to 20, veteran players who dabbled in special builds that don’t feature those perks will be stuck. They either have to create brand new characters or commit to grinding out enemies and quests in order to level the necessary perks.

Whichever way you go about it, there’s no denying a certain amount of gating for attempting what’s meant to be your next major time sink. At least those robots you destroy and salvage will provide enough resources when it comes to crafting your own creations. Especially when the overall content is a little light. We didn’t expect Automatron to bring tons of new quests to the table and honestly, the new dungeons – a new bandit stronghold owned by the Rust Devils and the Mechanist’s HQ – are lots of fun.

The Mechanist’s home turf is especially large and presents tons of traps and robots to battle. Even if the main story isn’t outstanding, learning the Mechanist’s motivations and bonding with Ada provide their own moments of solid story development. The lore in Automatron is exceptionally compelling, providing context to the robots’ creation and their ultimately sad state of affairs. Long story short – and without any spoilers – there’s more than enough reason to sympathize with the Mechanist.

"If you need any excuse to get back into Fallout 4 or just want to walk around with a huge robot watching your back, engaging in fun skirmishes with other robots, then Automatron is worth a look."

That being said, even if you run around, exploring everything new the DLC has to offer, you’re still looking at some 3 or 4 hours of fresh content. Of course, as with every Bethesda release, Automatron has its share of bugs and issues. While one didn’t encounter any game-breaking glitches, it was fascinating to see robots get stuck on environments due to their overall size and stature. This could be chalked up to the difference in movement options but it just felt weird at times, especially when factoring the sometimes-wonky nature of companion AI.

Make no mistake though – this DLC is meant to provide a few new twists and mechanics to tide fans over rather than a stop-gap, time-sink. Despite featuring more content than we expected, Automatron is just a fun set of tools to play around with, changing the base game and its world in unexpected ways while presenting a limited set of dungeons to challenge you. It’s an excellent diversion but by no means a full expansion (which May’s Far Harbor promises to deliver).

If you need any excuse to get back into Fallout 4 or just want to walk around with a huge robot watching your back, engaging in fun skirmishes with other robots, then Automatron is worth a look. As a DLC, it promises just the right amount and delivers such without setting our collective world on fire or outright justifying its $10 asking price.

Bethesda’s first paid DLC for Fallout 4, Automatron, is now available, though it may depend on where you live.

The DLC went live in North America on midnight ET for Steam and Xbox One. Other territories like Europe and the rest of the world should have received it across all platforms by midnight in their respective time zones.

Automatron adds a new quest-line wherein the Sole Survivor fights the Machinist and his army of robots. You’ll be able to build your own robots though, customizing them with hundreds of different parts and having them accompany you on journeys. It also seems that the new companion ADA is already making great first impressions among players.

Bethesda’s next paid DLC for Fallout 4 will arrive in April with Wasteland Workshop. The month will also see the release of the official mod tools, allowing players to craft their own adventures and experiences. Stay tuned for more details on the same.

As we get closer to Fallout 4‘s release of its first DLC, dubbed Automatron we’re getting some new information about the content. Earlier this month we got to see the first trailer featuring the kinds of things we can expect to see when this downloadable content launches. The announcement and first picture of Ada came through Bethesda’s Twitter account and is supposedly just one of the customizable robots you can encounter and bend to your will.

For those that don’t know, the story of Automatron has you attempting to chase down the evil genius, The Machinist. The character was first introduced in the main game during the Silver Shroud mission. As you look for The Machinist you will run across his minions and you’ll be able to salvage scrap from these robots. Once you’ve got enough scrap you can fashion your own mechanized companions. Robot armor, arms and legs, abilities, voices, and paint schemes can all be picked up and changed throughout the DLC.

Making robot companions isn’t the only new addition in Automatron. There is also a new weapon called the lightning chain gun. Though you’ll need to hit level 15 in order to get your hands on the gun and you’ll have to hit that level in order to just play the new content. Shortly after this DLC is released, it will be followed by Wasteland Workshop and then in May you’ll be able to get your hands on the biggest DLC for Fallout 4. Far Harbor will be added to the already impressive map for Fallout 4.

Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout 4 will be receiving its first DLC Automatron later this month and we finally get a look at gameplay footage today. Check it out below.

Automatron sees the player taking on the Mechanist, a mysterious individual who has assembled various robots to take over the Commonwealth. You’ll fight against the robots but also be able to build your own robot companions. Along with different mods, limbs, armour, abilities and weapons (not to mention paint schemes and voices), the player will also have access to a new lightning chain gun to battle the robots.

Releasing on March 22nd, Automatron will be available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC at $9.99 in North America. It will be the first DLC for Fallout 4 with April bringing the official modding tools and Wasteland Workshop and May bringing an entirely new landmass with Far Harbour. What are your thoughts on Automatron? Let us know in the comments below.

Tools releasing after Automatron DLC.

Though there have been plenty of mods out already, Fallout 4 will be receiving its official mod-making tools on PC courtesy of Bethesda Softworks in April. It will follow the release of the Automatron DLC which is out in March.

Game director Todd Howard revealed this to Game Informer. “We want to get it up on PC and have it work. It’ll probably be a good month before it hits Xbox One, and another month for PlayStation 4.”

As for Automatron and Wasteland Workshop, Howard provided a few details on both DLC, stating that, “The first one, Automatron, has a little quest line and this Pokemon-esque ‘kill robots, get their parts, build your own’ [gameplay].

“The Wasteland Workshop DLC is obviously for Workshop people. We wanted it to scratch that itch of ‘Can I build my own Thunderdome?'”

Survival Mode is also expected to be entering the Steam beta program “soon”. An official console release will follow when the time is right.
