Halo Wars 2 has received quite a few significant updates. Along with the Complete Edition releasing today, the base game has also received the new Awakening the Nightmare expansion. Check out the launch trailer for the same below.

Awakening the Nightmare follows Atriox’s Banished as they come upon the Flood. How they survive is anyone’s guess but the expansion does add the Flood as a new playable race for multiplayer along with 5 new campaign missions.

In fact, with the Complete Edition, players can now have 16 different leaders for use in multiplayer. If that’s not your cup of tea, then you can take them into the new co-op tower defense mode Terminus Firefight.

Halo Wars 2: Complete Edition comes with the base game, Season Pass and Awakening the Nightmare. It’s available for both Windows 10 and Xbox One with a free update coming later to support HDR and 4K on the Xbox One X (which is available on PC).

Microsoft’s Gamescom conference is in the bag and you’d be forgiven for thinking that nothing was missed. Rumours had indicated before the event that Microsoft would reveal something called “Codename Hollywood” but that just turned out to be the codename for Halo Wars 2’s next DLC Awakening The Nightmare. Confirmation of the same came from none other than Halo franchise director Frank O’Connor on NeoGAF.

Halo Wars 2: Awakening The Nightmare will be a significant expansion for the game though, bringing a new campaign focused on the Banished with new cinematics from Blur, new maps, new leaders and a new mode Terminus Firefight.

It takes place months after the events of Halo Wars 2 and sees The Banished doing anything possible to beat the UNSC Spirit of Fire, though it involves the Flood getting involved. Yes, that Flood. The DLC arrives on September 26th for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC with the entire game supporting 4K and HDR on the Xbox One X when it launches on November 7th.
