RIP in peace, Dark Sword builds.

Love your Dark Sword in Dark Souls 3? It was bound to be nerfed given its effectiveness and that’s exactly what happened this past weekend. Along with reducing the Dark Sword’s “weapon efficiency”, the update made changes to be a bunch of other weapons.

Anri’s Straight Sword has had its scaling effect reduced while Scholar’s Candlestick had its sorcery strengthening properties reduced (by roughly 12.5 percent according to some estimates). All daggers now have increased critical attack power.

Wolnir’s Holy Sword, Morne’s Great Hammer and Lothric’s Holy Sword have “added faith scaling and adjusted weapon efficiency accordingly”. Yorshka’s FP damage effects have been increased, the Greatsword of Judgment has increased attack power and the Crescent Moon Sword had its intelligence scaled and weapon efficiency adjusted.

You can check out the other changes from update 1.09 here. Let us know what you think of the changes and how you feel about the Dark Sword’s nerfing in the comments below.

Modern Warfare 3 is a game that is played by millions of gamers, so flashing that e-peen online definitely must feel good to these guys.
Why do people cheat? Well, it’s not that hard to explain, is it? Modern Warfare 3 is a game that is played by millions of gamers, so flashing that e-peen online definitely must feel good to these guys.

And then the eventual ban happens, and the eventual crying, “Bwaah, I didn’t do it”, “Infinity Ward sucks, Treyarch is the best.” The second quote is true, though.

So what happened here is that, Infinity Ward has been handing out bans for 5000 days. Yes, 5000 days. That most likely means you’re perma banned. As you know boosting is a form of cheating, and one that can result in losing your account.

A guy here has bought 6 PS3s and 6 copies of Modern Warfare 3 to… boost. Now why would anyone spend so much money on doing that is just bewildering. Are video games really that important to these people?

5000 days = 14 years, but that probably won’t stop these boosters, since they don’t have any attachment to their accounts and can easily buy a new console. But seeing them whine about getting banned is absolutely hilarious.

For example check out this guy below:

The moderation in EA forums are a bit tricky, as many users in the past have complained about unfair bans. Sort of like this one, but this latest ban really made me feel that a lot of people should be exposed to this. The bottomline is, you should not be banned from accessing something you purchased.

Multiplayer, well that’s fine, depending on the circumstances but the singleplayer? That is inexcusable. EA has all the right to do this, though. It’s in their T&C, but this is such an anti-consumer move, that I’m surprised why more people aren’t against this.

Let’s take the case of this guy, who was banned for an inflammatory comment said by someone else.

“The best part is that the offending post wasn’t made by me, but was directed at me and has my username in it, so, voila, BAN,” he revealed.

The user also posted the chat logs between him and EA’s support, which goes like this:

While the support guy was just following the rules, my heart goes out to the guy who got banned, because this policy should not be tolerated.

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

Microsoft released a dashboard update last night which added “boot to disc” option and visuals tweaks to gamercard. However, it did more than what they announced.

The update also put up anti-piracy measures for XBLA’s two most popular online games, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Halo: Reach.

The update checks if the discs have AP 2.5 elements present or not. This is only present in retail discs and pirated version do not contain any such elements and MS will be able to detect the offenders and flag their Live ids for a future ban.

This will enable Microsoft to catch a huge number of pirates at once and we can expect severe action from their end soon.

However, reports suggests that hackers are hard at work at coming up with a counter-measure on their own in order to bypass this.

We’ll keep you updated.

Blizzard has dropped the ban hammer on over 300,000 Warcraft and Diablo players for violating the terms of use.

The developer behind the RTS and RPG games stated in a forum post, “If this is a first offense, the CD key associated with the banned account will be suspended for 30 days, while repeat offenders will see their keys banned permanently. All account ban decisions are final.” It’s serious stuff.

According to Blizzard, the Battle.net accounts are being permanently removed for use of 3rd party programs, and exploitation of “unintended mechanics”- in other words, hacking and glitching.

“We would like all players to remember that abuse of unintended mechanics and/or use of third party programs is a violation of the agreement made when signing on to Battle.net, and can subject your account to disciplinary action up to and including a permanent ban of its access to the service. These types of activities can severely impact the stability of our servers, and we’ll continue to aggressively monitor Battle.net in order to protect the service and its players from the harmful effects of cheating.”

“Many account closures come as the direct result of tips emailed to our hacks team by legitimate Battle.net users. If you come across a hack, find a site responsible for distributing hacks, or have a replay of a newly available hack, please report this to our hacks team.”

This is the second time a great big ban hammer has been dropped on a significant number of players, the last occurence being in September 2008.

The moral of the story? Don’t hack- or you might not play Starcraft II.
