Another handheld game makes its way to consoles and PC.

Western companies seem to like bringing ports of their failed handheld side projects to consoles and PC a few months after they have released and failed (because they were crap, because they weren’t given proper attention, because western companies don’t like taking handhelds seriously). It’s become a trend- after the launch of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Liberation (originally on Vita) on consoles and of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate (originally on 3DS) on PC and consoles, Warner Bros. is bringing Batman: Arkham Asylum Blackgate (originally on Vita and 3DS) to PC and consoles.

The game launches today on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC over Xbox Live, PSN Store, Nintendo eShop, and Steam. Warner Bros. is promising that this port enhances the core pillars of the previously released handheld version of the game with high-definition visuals, an all-new map system, new enemy encounters, difficulty levels, and batsuits.

I guess for series completionists, this is just making the job of playing every single Batman: Arkham game (especially ahead of the launch of Arkham Knight) easier.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Armature Studio have released two new videos for Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, the handheld offshoot that takes place three months after the events of Arkham Origins. One video showcases the game’s FreeFlow Combat system and how it works in a 2.5D side-scroller. The other hands out some helpful tips for tackling each of the game’s six bosses (not counting the final boss). Check them out below.

Arkham Origins Blackgate, unlike its more prominent console brother, is more of a Metroidvania style side-scroller in which players discover new items and ways to bypass obstacles in Blackgate Prison. The game follows Batman as he battles Penguin, Black Mask and The Joker who’ve each taken over a portion of the prison and vie for supremacy.

The game is currently available for PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS and has received mixed reviews from critics. Let us know about your experience in the comments or check out our review for Arkham Origins here.

New Metroidvania style title looks good.

The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC may be getting Batman: Arkham Origins, the Warner Montreal developed prequel to Rocksteady’s seminal Batman: Arkham duology, but the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS aren’t being left out of the action either. Both the handhelds are getting Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, which is a Metroidvania style title starring everyone’s favorite Caped Crusader, built from the ground up for the two systems.

Above we have ten minutes of gameplay footage of the title, and it sure looks sweet (although it looks like the title was built for the Nintendo 3DS and then put on the PlayStation Vita rather than the other way around). Personally, maybe because I am so much of a comic book nerd, what stood out the most to me are its comic book style still life cutscenes, although the actual gameplay looks pretty good too.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage of both of these game, Batman: Arkham Origins, and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, including our extensive reviews for both the titles.

Vigilantes on the Wii U and PC will need to wait till November 8th for a release.

Delays seem to be the flavour of the week. First Ubisoft Montreal’s Watch Dogs was delayed till Spring 2014, with The Crew also facing a delay. Then Evolution Studios’ PS4 launch title, DriveClub was delayed until early 2014.

Now, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that Batman: Arkham Origins for the Wii U and PC will be delayed, releasing on November 8th in Europe. Interestingly, only the disc version for PC has been delayed according to confirmation sent to Eurogamer.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will still be launching on October 25th worldwide however, and it seems that the delay won’t affect Wii U and PC versions elsewhere in the world, particularly North America. However, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will also be delayed for 3DS in Europe. At least the Vita version seems safe.

What are your thoughts on the delay and which game do you predict will be delayed next? Let us know in the comments below.

An all new game mode for Batman: Arkham Origins

WB Games have released a new trailer which features all new gameplay from the upcoming installment in the Batman: Arkham series, Batman: Arkham Origins.

Specifically, this video delves into the gameplay of the Deathstroke Challenge Pack, giving us a look at the all-new playable character, Deathstroke. The as yet released features of the Deathstroke Challenger pack are the 100-1 game play mode, two exclusive challenge maps, and three unique skins for the Deathstroke character model.

From the looks of things, Deathstroke will feature an all-new arsenal of kick ass moves to unleash upon the evil denizens of Arkham. This is coupled with the fact that this most recent installment looks to feature the smoothest and most fluid graphics and game play of the series to date.

Batman: Arkham Origins is slated to release on October 25th, 20013 across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Windows PC. Additionally, on October 25th, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will release for the 3DS and Vita.

Player influenced progression for the newest Batman.

The director of the upcoming installment in the Batman Arkham series, Batman Arkham Origins Blackate, Mark Pacini in an interview with The Escapist has confirmed that Blackgate will include somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 hours of game play, and will allow players to influence the story progression, making for multiple endings.

“It’s about a ten hour game first time through. What’s interesting is, as we mentioned before that you can defeat the bosses in any order you want, the boss that you leave for last dictates the last half hour of the game,” said Pacini. “The player will get items he couldn’t get before based on who he leaves last. You can play the game three times through, get different things each time and the ending is different each time. Along with that we have suits that are only unlockable playing in a certain order. Each suit has a particular perk to it.”

Arkham Origins Blackgate is a handheld console companion game to the Batman Arkham series, and will release on PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS on October 25th. According to developers, Armature Studios, both versions will utilize a modified version of the Bluepoint Engine, which was featured in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Take a gander at the handheld title's gameplay and graphics.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released a new gameplay trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, which shows off the art style and gameplay that players can look forward to along with some of the enemies the Dark Knight will be dealing. Here’s a hint: Solomon Grundy on a Monday. Try to crack that riddle.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, like its console counterpart, takes place before Arkham Asylum/City and sees Batman mixing it up with the foul criminals of Blackgate Prison. Unlike the console version however, Blackgate will be a Metroid-vania style platformer. Developed by Armature Studio, the game will be presented in 2.5D space but still allow for Free Flow combat as Batman fights enemies in the foreground and background. Old gadgets will also return but work a bit differently in the 2.5D plane.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is scheduled to release on October 25th, the same day as Arkham Origins, and will be available for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita.

That's an accurate assessment but many fans would disagree.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate looks Metroid Prime-ish, and the director of the game, Mark Pacini, has brushed aside these concerns and has called the so called Retro games sucky.

He thinks Metroid Prime games suck basically. Which is a shared sentiment really. He’s a good developer though and has worked with great studios before.

“I hope we don’t disappoint them. That’s always my fear, because I think everything we do sucks,” he told GameInformer. “But that’s just me because I thought all the Prime games suck. At the end of the day all I see are all the bad things.

“Prime 2 was a blur to me. It was so quick, it was so fast. That thing just went out the door and it was a very divisive game. People either liked it or thought it sucked, and I can completely agree because I couldn’t tell you what that game was because it happened so quickly.

“Prime 1 was the best designed game. Prime 3 I feel is the most fun one to play. Prime 2 is divisive. You either like it or you don’t. That’s kind of the way I look at it.”

The game will be releasing later this year for the 3DS and PS Vita. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
