Telltale’s exploration of Batman, and of Bruce Wayne, comes to a thrilling conclusion with Batman: The Telltale Series — Episode 5: City of Light. The fifth episode is the finale to Telltale’s exploration of the Dark Knight and his tortured psyche, and promises to bring the story to a thrilling and satisfying conclusion, wrapping up all of the plot points that the previous episodes have raised along the way.

Telltale’s games are usually and basically glorified interactive movies- they require little to no input from the player, just the odd button press or quick time event here or there. Batman may actually be the most egregious example of that- which means that this is really not a game that requires a walkthrough, not in the traditional sense. If, on the other hand, you would rather enjoy the story without subjecting yourself to Telltale’s objectively terrible engine, then you can now watch this full video walkthrough of City of Light, start to end, and see how it all plays out for yourself.

Keep in mind, though, it will have spoilers- that, at least, goes without saying.

Batman: The Telltale Series‘ Episode 5 is here and in order to celebrate the release of the final chapter, the developers have released a new launch trailer. This episode ties up the series in a neat little bow and shows us the final showdown between the Dark Knight and the leader of the Children of Arkham in City of Light.

As has been the case with the other episodes in this series, this is going to be available on the consoles as well as the PC and mobile devices. The chapters for this game have been getting released in a smaller window than the company has done in the past.

This time around, the official synopsis of the episode is: “In Episode 5, the leader of the Children of Arkham prepares to execute the final act of a plan to destroy the Wayne family name, and the people closest to you are in their path of vengeance. Can Batman’s ultimate secret be kept – his very identity – when it is causing chaos and death in Gotham? The fate of the Wayne family and of the city itself rests on your choices. What will you do? How far will you go? Which mask will you wear?”

Telltale’s Batman has been a uniquely good examination and adaptation of the Caped Crusader- and now, that adaptation will be coming to an end, and soon. The final episode in Telltale’s Batman, Episode 5- City of Light, will be launching next week, on December 13.

The release date will hold across PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS devices, Android devices, and computers running Windows or Mac. The final episode, Telltale claim, will see players begin “in very different places depending on where they chose to go in the third act of Episode 4”- although whether those choices amount to anything meaningful, or whether they are just glorified window dressing, is something that remains to be seen yet.

The first four episodes of Batman: The Telltale Series are already available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS devices, Android devices, and computers running Windows or Mac- if you’re a Batman fan, now might be a good time to look into them if you haven’t already. They’re an excellent adaptation of the character and his mythos, and the technical problems plaguing the PC version have now been fixed.
