The single player campaigns of Bad Company and Bad Company 2 will still remain available, however.

EA has announced that Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be removed from digital storefronts on April 28. The games are also slated to have their online services shut down on December 8.

While Battlefield 1943 was a multiplayer-focused title and will be essentially lost forever with this move, Battlefield: Bad Company and Bad Company 2 will still have their offline game modes available, which includes their single-player campaigns.

Battlefield 1943 was released as a digital-only game on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and was the first time console players could fight on the Wake Island map, which was originally only available on PC Battlefield games. It was the third Battlefield to be released on consoles.

While Battlefield: Bad Company was available only on the PS3 and Xbox 360, it was the first game to introduce the Gold Rush mode, which is now regarded as a staple for the Battlefield multiplayer experience in its current form known as Rush. Both Bad Company games also had a greater emphasis on their narratives, featuring a single group of soldiers from the eponymous Bad Company.

Remember few weeks ago we reported that one disgruntled PS3 owner filed a lawsuit on behalf of all Battlefield 3 PS3 owners who were misled by EA. It looks like EA has finally succembed to their demands. Earlier EA had said that they would give PS3 Battleifled 3 owners a free copy of BF 1943 but backed off from that promise but now they realise their mistake.

Ea released a statement saying that:

There have been some misunderstandings around Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield 3. To address this we are making Battlefield 1943 available free of charge to owners of Battlefield 3 on the PS3 beginning this month.

Sometimes lawsuits work!

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

Here’s how you can redeem the game:

Activate your Battlefield 3 Online Pass for the PlayStation 3 using the voucher included in the game (see step #5 for additional instructions).

Visit 1943redemption.battlefield.com on or after the dates outlined above for your region and log in with your Origin ID and password. Click here if you need help with retrieving your account information.

Select your territory. Note vouchers do not work across regions.

You will then receive a PlayStation 3 voucher for Battlefield 1943.

input your voucher into the PlayStation Network store. Instructions below.

From the XMB (cross media-bar) of the PlayStation 3 connected to a network, choose [account management] under the [PlayStation Network].

From the menu select redeem codes.

Enter voucher and select continue.

Download Battlefield 1943.

EA is facing a class action lawsuit, Kotaku reports. EA had originally promised all PS3 copies to contain free download vouched for Battlefield 1943, but they backed out at the last minute. This has created some problems as they have been taken to court.

They alleged that EA announced the news that the PS3 copies won’t get Battlefield 1943 in a disrespectful manner. EA had announced it in Twitter.

The suit said, “misled and profited from thousands of their customers by making a promise that they could not, and never intended, to keep”

They aren’t looking for money but just a free copy of Battlefield 1943. I’m actually surprised they didn’t demand for more. EA had made ‘Back to Karkand’ DLC pack available early to PS3 owners in return of Battlefield 1943.

Battlefield 1943 is continuing to elude PC gamers, and it appears EA are in no position to offer a potential release date.

In the latest twist in the tale, EA have been giving refunds to all those who pre-ordered the game on PC.

Gamers trying to get a refund previously have been met with staunch optimism from EA, who insisted a release date was soon to be announced.

Sufficed to say, something has set back the release of BF 1943 on PC to the extent where the publishers have stated;

”All pre-orders can be canceled with refund at anytime and we do not have any further information at this time about a release date for the PC version of Battlefield 1943.”

The unsettling move leaves many PC gamers wondering just when they might be able to get online in the World War Two world of Battlefield once again.

Battlefield is one of the best multiplayer first person shooters you can buy. DICE has built a series of amazing games and a huge player base. With their most recent addition to the series, Battlefield 1943, they return to the tired World War II setting with great success. With some of the best designed and nicest looking maps they have ever produced EA and DICE have made one of the best downloadable games on the Xbox Live Marketplace and Playstation Network.

Battlefield 1943 may return to the much overused World War II setting but it manages to breathe new life into the setting. All of the maps featured in the game are based in the Pacific Campaign. You will play as either the United States Marine Corps or the Imperial Japanese Navy in an epic struggle of conquest. As in other Battlefield games you will attempt to capture five points across the map. The goal is to control more flags than your enemy and drain their respawn bar. Once you control three or more flags you will begin to drain the other team’s bar more rapidly. Once one team’s bar is empty that team loses the round. The teams then switch sides and play again.

When the round starts or when you die you can select from one of three classes. The Infantry class starts with a sub machine gun, a rocket launcher, and a wrench. They are meant to be the anti-armor and engineer unit. Riflemen are anti infantry and spawn with a long range rifle and a grenade rifle. Finally you can be the scout, the sniper of the bunch. They have light camouflage, a pistol, and remote charges that they can plant and detonate at a time of their choosing.

With each unit having a rock paper scissors style advantage/disadvantage your choice in class affects the way you will play. Snipers will easily take out Infantry from afar, but trying to defend against a close range assault from one is another story. If there were better in game communication then it would be much easier to coordinate assaults of defensive stands, but since no one can ever be heard you’ll just have to wing it.

There is a small assortment of vehicles and stationary weapons for the taking as well. On the land you can quickly move from base to base with a jeep or lead an assault with a tank. You can even provide air support from a fighter. On the defensive side there are mounted guns and anti air batteries placed around key locations. If you’re lucky enough you may even be able to get the bombing run and lay waste to an entire base worth of baddies. Also, on maps where you start on a carrier you can use landing craft to transport your guys Normandy style to the shore, but hopefully minus the casualties. Remember, your respawns won’t last forever.

1943 uses the same Frostbite engine that was used for Battlefield Bad Company but it looks as though some improvements have been made. The game looks a bit nicer than Bad Company and has some better coloring and texturing, it also doesn’t have the slight gritty film that Bad Company did. The environments look outstanding, everything from trees to buildings to the ocean are something to behold. 1943 the best looking downloadable game out there. Being that it is the Frostbite engine most objects are destructible. Places that were safe in the beginning of the game are nothing but charred remains by the end. Craters will cover the ground along with other sorts of wreckage.

One of the most subtly defining feature of the game is its sound. From the beginning of the game you will hear engines roar and allies yelling out objectives and enemy locations. The sound of small skirmishes can be heard all around and the sound of gunshots will fill the air. Other soldiers will call out tanks or bombers as they approach your position or even applaud a headshot or the destruction of enemy vehicles. When bombing runs are incoming a loud siren will go off to alert all players as though it were a real bombing. The sound more than anything is what sells this game.

The gameplay, visuals, and sound all combine to immerse you in the battles. They build up a lot of intensity and make you feel like you are really fighting WWII, or at least what it might feel like. Matches will become very intense, especially when they are close. Toward the end you will hear an emergency siren coming from the losing team’s ship letting everyone know that they are on their last few lives. At this point each kill is a huge push toward victory and a major blow to the opposition. Finally, when the last kill has been made, the war report comes on to decree the final outcome. Sounds awesome right? The best part is that you get to play it again from the other side now. When you get a good room with similarly skilled players there is nothing better than knowing that the next round will be another nail biter.

As good as Battlefield 1943 is, it has a few faults that can really ruin the experience. First and foremost are the balancing issues. It should not be possible in any game to play an online match without an opposing team, and yet it is in 1943. Even when there is another team the game will allow one team to be larger than the other and still allow players to join the larger team. It’s no fun to lose, it’s especially no fun when you and two other guys are staring down an entire army because they game isn’t capable of realizing that the team may be just a little bit imbalanced. There are also some graphical issues where small parts of the screen will, essentially, rip out of place and drag over the rest of the screen. While infrequent, it is quite annoying. Finally, the most forgivable problem is that there are only four maps and only three are ground maps. The Coral Sea map unlocked at 43 million community kills is an air only map and can only be accessed through the air superiority mode. The other three maps are very good, but the lack of variety will eventually turn players away. Hopefully DICE can remedy this with another unlockable map or some sort of DLC (Downloadable Content).

It’s difficult not to recommend Battlefield 1943 to anyone. Whether you are a shooter fan or not there is tons of fun to be had, and at 1200 Microsoft points or $14.99 on the PSN the price it right. Grab you gun and hit the frontlines soldiers, this is war, and war has never been so fun.

This game was reviewed on the PlayStation 3.

Battlefield 1943, a new WWII first person shooter coming to the Playstation Network and Xbox Live will be nothing new to the Battlefield franchise, but for an Arcade/PSN title, it looks great.

Like mentioned the game takes place in World War II, and offers up to 24 online players.

You get to choose between two factions:

The US Marine Corps and the Japanese Imperial Army.

Each faction has 3 classes:

Infantry – Your standard infantry soldier, using machine guns and granades.

Rifleman- Using semi-automatic Rifles and special bayonets for the close encounters.

Scout- Your standard Sniper, using his sniper rifle and his camouflage

Just like every other Battlefield game, Battlefield 1943 lets you choose how you want to play the game, and you can do it whenever you like.

You have the choices between staying on the ground, getting in a tank or a jeep, going on a battleships,or perhaps just roam the sky with your fighting jet, you choose how you want to kill your enemy in Battlefield 1943.

Battlefield 1943 offers unique gameplay styles, one example is that you can use the built in squad features to team up with up to 4 other soldiers and make your way across the Pacific Theatre together.

Played Battlefield: Bad Company? Liked the destruction? well Battlefield 1943 offers the same engine in which players can destroy almost anything in their path, if its shooting down a tree or blowing up a building, many Battlefield fans will get right into the action of Battlefield 1943.

The game offers 4 maps, Wake Island, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, and Coral Sea, pretty good for a PSN/XBL title.

So prepare your controllers ladies and gentlemen, Battlefield 1943 will hit the Playstation Store and the Xbox Live Marketplace on July 9th for 1200 Microsoft point on Xbox 360 and $14.99 on the Playstation 3.
