EA Announces 50 Titles to Lose Online Support from June 30th Onwards

After the shutdown of multiplayer service GameSpy, there was trepidation over which games would eventually continue receiving support for the same. Publisher EA, which has a number of online titles that were affected by the GameSpy closure, has now revealed a list of 50 games that will stop receiving online and multiplayer support from June 30th onwards.

These include a number of top-tier titles and their expansions such as Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2 for PC, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (PS2), Battlefield 2142 for PC and Mac, Battlefield Vietnam for PC, Bejeweled 2 (Wii), Bulletstorm (PS3), Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (PC/Mac), Command & Conquer: Generals (PC/Mac), Crysis 1 and 2 for PC, Crysis Wars and many more.

Some titles like Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will continue on thank to third party support but what about the rest? It’s still possible that some of these games could continue but certainly not all of them. Thoughts? Let us know in the comments.

DICE urge gamers to ‘prove with their wallets’ that they want new IPs

As a true* Battlefield veteran, having played the series since 2005, I was naturally excited for the release of Battlefield 3. In truth, for all Battlefield 3’s good points, it never really felt like a true Battlefield title, a fact that DICE executive producer Patrick Bach admitted himself:

“We get free advertising just by having the Battlefield name”, Bach said in an interview with CVG.

“For us Battlefield 3 could have been released almost as a new game because there are so many differences, but the problem then is that players seem to want sequels,

“They like the next iteration of the game they love, and even if people say they want new IPs, when new IPs arrive no one cares, they don’t buy them,

“I would love for people to buy new IPs and prove with their wallet what they mean, instead of blaming someone else,

“There’s a big chunk of money you invest in games so you want at least your money back.”

Battlefield 3 pre-orders more than 2000% higher than Battlefield 2

Amazon UK announced this morning that Battlefield 3’s pre-order are 2000 per cent more than those for Battlefield 2 back when it was released, releasing statistics for other games such as FIFA 12 and Arkham City as well.

Amazon UK gives the exact figure at 2,302% more than the pre-orders that were places for BF2 before its release.

Pre-orders for Modern Warfare 3 are 321% more than those for Black Ops. Gears of War 3’s seen a rise of 216% since the pre-orders for Gears 2. FIFA 12 has 325% more pre-orders than last year’s FIFA 11, and Batman: Arkham City 349% more than Arkham Asylum.

Uncharted 3 has 488% higher pre-orders than Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the biggest rise for any game after Battlefield 3.
