Battlefield 4: Naval Strike has had several hiccups since it became available to current and next gen users, including delays for the PC and Xbox One version. It’s been available since March 25th but through Battlefield Premium – but from today onward, general non-Premium users will be able to partake in the oceanic madness.

Naval Strike adds four new maps – Lost Islands, Nansha Strike, Wave Breaker and Operation Mortar – set across miles of ocean, some new weapons, a brand new Hovercraft vehicle, and the Carrier Assault mode, which is a spiritual successor to Titan Mode from Battlefield 2142. Players will be working together to destroy each other’s naval carriers, seizing control of the map in the process.

Two more expansions will be available for Battlefield 4 in the coming months, with Dragon’s Teeth and Final Stand to be arriving next. Are you picking up Naval Strike today? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

After confirming that the Xbox One release of Battlefield 4: Naval Strike was delayed just two days ago, DICE has now released the DLC along with a patch. No information is available on the PC version though which was delayed shortly before the Xbox One version with no ETA on when it would be out.

The Xbox One version carries some hefty patch notes too. There are the general fixes, including for crashes that occurred when players customized vehicles, the quad bike exploding if it hit indestructible objects, ceiling exploits in Operation Metro and much, much more. The netcode has also been significantly improved – you can now see the real killer in the killcam and there’s even a fix for weapons firing twice or not at all in some cases.

Battlefield 4: Naval Strike is currently available for Premium subscribers on PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Non-Premium members will get it on April 8th.

If you had purchased Battlefield Premium and expected Battlefield 4: Naval Strike to release today for PC, then we’ve got some bad news. DICE has recently announced that Naval Strike has been delayed on the PC and there’s currently no details on just when it will release.

“We are delaying the launch of Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on PC. We’ve detected an issue and it needs to be solved.

“Quality is our number one priority and we will not release Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on PC until we feel it meets the highest quality level possible. We are also working on a larger update to release alongside Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on PC that will address the issue of Tablet Commander not working correctly.

“Once we have a confirmed date for PC, we’ll be sure to update those players on our official channels. We appreciate your patience and look forward to seeing everyone on the Battlefield.”

Battlefield 4: Naval Strike is available to current and next gen console users with a Premium subscription, while regular users will receive it on April 8th.

Naval Strike will feature four new maps and a new vehicle, the Hovercraft, with an increased emphasis on battle at sea. That means far more sea-faring than you’d typically be used to. It also means that Battlefield 2142’s Titan mode makes a return but as Carrier Assault. Each team has its own personal naval carrier that must be destroyed and this can be done by taking control of the map before initiating an assault.

The trailer also revealed that Naval Strike will be available on March 25th for Premium users, with general users receiving it on April 8th through Origin. Battlefield 4: Naval Strike is the first DLC being released for the game since EA and DICE publicly apologized for the state the game was released in and promised to work on fixing the game before releasing any more DLC.

In a blog post, DICE’s Lead gameplay designer Gustav Halling gave us some insight into the upcoming expansion pack, talking about the maps in the pack, for example, and how it was a challenge getting the balance of land and water right across them so that all units would actually have utility in matches. He also talked about the M320 GL: a new grenade launcher that will fire three rounds without reloading. This comes at a price, though, as its splash damage will be notably reduced.
