Beenox studios was acquired by Activision in 2005 and the studio’s boss has come in support of the publisher by saying that the reputation they have earned is “probably unfair”.

They are currently developing The Amazing Spider-Man. We also have a cool gameplay trailer for that which you can check out here.

“I would certainly say from an internal perspective that the reputation Activision has acquired is probably unfair,” studio head Dee Brown told GamesIndustry.Biz.

“We had to work with Activision prior to our acquisition. There was a reason why I as the studio founder agreed to be acquired. It was because of their independent studio culture. I believed in that model, and I still believe in that model today.”

“They’ve been, from a creative standpoint, really, really great. When I look at Shattered Dimensions, what were asked for at the time was ‘Please make a Spider-Man game.’ That was the creative direction that Activision gave us,” he added.

“That is pretty much the creative involvement that Activision had. As a game developer, it is just really great to have that level of freedom, and it is really great to feel empowered and make the game we really want to make.”

The Amazing Spider-Man video game, which is planned to be launched on June 29th, 2012, tied to Sony Picture Entertainment’s upcoming feature film of the same name. In the game, Iguana has been re-imagined to be more animalistic than its comic book counterpart.

The visual approach is less cartoony, which makes for really interesting details. He is also permanently mutated and does not return to his original form during the day. Therefore, he must hide in the dark corners of Manhattan in his effort to survive.
