Behind enemy lines.

There’s nothing quite like a good stealth game- that palpable sense of tension, those moments of strategizing and planning out your next moves, that welling sense of accomplishment when you put your plans into action and actually pull it off. It’s not an easy thing to do, mind you- a lot of games fail spectacularly at stealth. But over the years, there have been so many games that get it right. In this feature, we’re going to be looking at what we think are the fifteen best stealth games of all time. Given the vast number of options we had to choose from, it’s obvious that this list may be missing a number of notable games, so if that is indeed the case, sound off in the comments section below!

NOTE: For obvious reasons, we’re going to stick to one game per series. Also note that this list is presented in random order.

HITMAN: BLOOD MONEY

While most stealth games have players hiding in the shadows and sneaking past enemies, Hitman games ask you to hide in plain sight, and the way Blood Money pulls it off is, to this day, applause-worthy. Every mission you embark on as Agent 47 demands you to put actual thought into your actions, and there’s nothing quite as gratifying and satisfying as that moment when everything falls into place and you take out your target with extreme style. Mechanics such as disguising yourself and making the deaths you’ve caused look like accidents were not only ahead of their time, they were also executed with near-perfection, and Blood Money remains, to this day, one of the most polished stealth games ever created.
