It's twice as fast as a Xbox One X with an SSD.

The power of the SSD has been a huge marketing point for this upcoming generation of consoles. While in the long run, the ability to load and run games faster could see big changes to game design, in the here and now a quick reference for their abilities is reduced loading time. The Xbox Series X has been circulating around the press and influencers with Microsoft gradually giving them more backwards compatible games to try out, including one of the latest, DOOM Eternal.

Álvaro Castellano of 3DJuegos went to his official Twitter to show off just how quick you can get into Eternal, and it’s roughly only 5 seconds. For reference, Twitter user Psygnosis 7 put up a video of the game loading on his Xbox One X with a swapped out SSD that took about 10 seconds (I imagine it’s even more on a standard HDD). Keep in mind, since this is a backwards compatible title, it wasn’t optimized for the Series X’s SSD, which makes it all the more impressive and means that natively developed games could see even more reduced load times.

DOOM Eternal is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia with a Switch version still slated to come at some point. The game recently joined Xbox Game Pass, meaning it will be on Xbox Series X from day one through the service. The game’s first expansion, The Ancient Gods – Part 1, launches October 20th.

Should we be nervous?

Ever since Fallout 4 was announced at E3 this year, people have expressed surprise that Bethesda says the game will be ready to release by this November. New reports that the game will be shown off at Gamescom next month, but it won’t have a demo available seem to underline why people are wary about expecting the game to really, truly be ready by its November release window.

Pushing AAA game release dates back is just a part of the business these days. The lack of a demo, just three months ahead of when the game is going to be on the market would raise eyebrows no matter what the game was. Of course, there are other reasons besides “it’s not ready” to keep the demo under wraps. Bethesda is said to be holding a playable version back until and exclusively for Quakecon. That makes some sense since this is where the majority of Bethesda fans are going to be congregating since the company is also bringing a new Doom game. Doom is quite popular among the Quakecon event goers but it seems likely that a Fallout 4 demo would steal the show.

For it’s part, Bethesda has said one of the reasons they announced the game so early in the year is because it is “almost done.” That would also seem to indicate the company isn’t remotely worried about having to push back the release date. Should the game indeed be coming on time, it would mean it will arrive on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC on November 10, 2015

Bethesda's Pete Hines felt that "it was a big enough title that they could get away with it".

Bethesda’s Fallout 4 is easily one of the most anticipated releases of the year, if not of the past several years, but its announcement and subsequent release date caught many of us off guard. Usually, games are announced some time in advance and released the next year. With Fallout 4, there’s roughly five months between the game’s announcement and its release in November.

According to VP of marketing and PR Pete Hines in conversation with Games Radar, this was done because, “We felt like we could. If we didn’t feel like that was enough time to generate the excitement that we expected and the interest that we wanted, then we would have announced it earlier. So part of it is because we felt like it was a big enough title that we could get away with it.”

Since the game was “pretty close to being done” in development, Hines felt it would be more fun if a release date came soon after its first trailer.

Fallout 4 will be out on November 10th for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

QuakeCon demo won't be shown to the public any time soon.

id Software made the decision to offer a sneak peek at Doom, a reboot to their hallowed franchise, to attendees of QuakeCon 2014. Despite causing quite the stir, Bethesda’s Pete Hines has indicated in an interview with PC Gamer that it’s unlikely the game is formally revealed until 2015.

Hines said that the demo showcased won’t be revealed to the public and that a formal announcement will be made when the team is ready. “They’re like, ‘Look, we don’t want a stream to go up for a game that isn’t at the point where we would formally show it to the world, and now that thing is getting picked apart, and digested, and gone through frame-by-frame and getting nitpicked to death, when normally we wouldn’t be showing this to anybody at all.”

Bethesda made the decision to reveal something at QuakeCon though because he wanted to cater to id Software’s loyal fans. “We wanted to show something that gives them the confidence that it is still a viable studio that’s doing really cool stuff, that is making a game you want to play, and is treating Doom with the care and respect that you want.”

Hines finally added that “next year is normally when” Doom will likely be showcased. Can you wait that long? Let us know in the comments.
