Previously in charge of Anthem's revamp, Christian Dailey now leads the Dragon Age team.

Earlier today, it was announced that BioWare veterans Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah would no longer be working with the studio. This is Hudson’s second departure from the developer and Darrah was previously working on the next Dragon Age. So obviously there’s concern, especially given the studio’s high-profile mishaps like Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem.

Even more interesting, however, is that BioWare Austin studio director Christian Dailey is now in charge of Dragon Age 4. Dailey is perhaps better known as handling Anthem and its updates post-launch while also being in charge of the game’s much-needed revamp. In a new tweet, Dailey said that joining the Dragon Age team was a “tough decision but made easier because of the talented Anthem leadership and team in place.”

So for all intents and purposes, the live-service looter shooter’s rework is still happening. With the second anniversary of its launch coming up next February and no real indication for when the rework will roll-out, however, its ultimate fate remains to be seen. As for Dragon Age 4, it’s not coming any time soon with EA previously indicating a release date some time after April 1st 2022.

The PC-only title is also rumoured to be heading to PS4 and Xbox One.

Remember Bioware Austin’s Shadow Realms, its online action role playing game that was revealed at Gamescom 2014 after a hefty stream of teasers? The PC-only title may have undergone a significant retooling since the deal of its closed alpha test that was to happen in October 2014.

According to Kotaku, while two sources claimed the game had been cancelled, a third “reliable” source revealed that Shadow Realms had actually been overhauled to integrate EA’s Origin services. Though the game was originally thought to be offered as a standalone client, Origin integration means that the developer will have access to more resources and financing.

That’s not all – Shadow Realms will also have a campaign mode along with a possible release on PS4 and Xbox One. Whatever the case may be, sources state that we won’t see the RPG until at least 2017.

Take this all with a grain of salt but it would explain the absence of any Shadow Realms-related news and happenings in the past few months. What are your thoughts on the same? Let us know in the comments.

Said model is apparently approaching quickly, according to Schubert.

<a href="N“>In an editorial for Game Developer Magazine, republished by Gamasutra online, Bioware Austin’s Damion Schubert speaks about the current state of free to play games with microtransactions in the West.

It’s “coming fast now,” according to Schubert, “and it is not inconceivable to imagine a world in the next decade where the majority of games available to users are delivered in this reality.

“For the time being, though, we are still in a Wild West game design reality, where every design shop is attempting different ways to earn that dollar – some of those bordering on shady and questionable.

“Still, game designers need to start by acknowledging that a small number of heavy users will likely subsidize the majority of the efforts in their microtransaction-oriented game.

“To me, as a game designer, this is a good thing; making a game that earns the love and devotion of players is the right path. Making a great game with a solid design and a respect for your player’s wallet is still the best way forward.”

Bioware Austin is in charge of Star Wars: The Old Republic, which went free to play after its release.

After Edmonton, Montreal, Austin and BioWare Mythic (Virginia), this is the developer’s fifth studio.
