The remaster of the 2011 platformer is discounted until February 13th on Steam, along with other titles like Sonic Frontiers.

Out of nowhere, Sega has released Sonic Colors: Ultimate for Steam. The Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions are available and discounted for 30 percent off until February 13th. Several Sonic titles are discounted on Steam till the same date, like the acclaimed Sonic Frontiers.

As a remaster of the 2011 Nintendo Wii title, Sonic Colors: Ultimate sees Sonic and Tails venturing to an interstellar amusement park built by Dr Eggman. Their mission is to save the Wisps, who each grant special powers for overcoming various obstacles. In addition to improved visuals and frame rate, it includes a feature where Tails prevents Sonic from falling to his death.

The Jade Ghost Wisp from Team Sonic Racing, Rival Rush Mode against Metal Sonic and cosmetics unlocked via Park Tokens are also available. The soundtrack has also been remastered, though it falters in some places compared to the original. Sonic Colors: Ultimate is also available for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via the Epic Games Store.

The credits music should now properly loop while the Achievement/Trophy "Giving Credit Where Credit's Due" has had its description updated.

Sega has a new update available for Sonic Colors: Ultimate, its remaster of the 2010 platformer (which released in a less than ideal state but has been receiving patches). Along with improving stability across all platforms, it also updates the save-game system. Audio mixing has also seen improvements while the credits music will now loop.

The Trophy/Achievement “Giving Credit Where Credit’s Due” has also had its description updated (which should help clarify what needs to be done to unlock it). Switch players should see the Eggman fireworks actually appearing at the end of Terminal Velocity while PC players should actually be able to damage Captain Jelly using the Yellow Drill Wisp.

Other than that, there are “various” bug fixes included with this update. Sonic Colors: Ultimate is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PC and Xbox One – you can check out our official review here for more details. Otherwise, stay tuned for more updates and patches in the future.

Official Twitter says that this is only the first of several upcoming patches, and that other platforms would also receive some in the future.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate launched last week for multiple platforms but it hasn’t been without its issues, especially on the Nintendo Switch. To help fix the same, Sega promised a new patch which is now live. The official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter noted that this was only the first of several patches that would be coming in the near future.

It also seems that other platforms will be getting patched as well. The Switch version has had it the worst though with graphical glitches, performance issues and much more causing various problems for its players. Time will tell how quickly these get resolved though so stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate is now available for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. You can check out our official review here to see how it fares or check out some gameplay of the Wisps here.

Social media manager for the Sonic brand recently took to Twitter to reveal that an upcoming patch will alleviate all technical issues with the game.

The social media manager for the Sonic brand recently took to Twitter to reveal to fans that an upcoming patch for Sonic Colors: Ultimate will be fixing the litany of bugs and crashes experienced by players. Katie Chrzanowski hasn’t detailed the specifics of the release for the patch, but considering the gravity of the situation, it’s expected to be dropping sooner than later.

On a side note, Katie Chrzanowski also highlighted that many fans were encountering issues with the game due to the use of emulation. Of course, fixing those problems isn’t a developer’s forte – but genuine bugs will be resolved soon. Sonic Colors: Ultimate has generally had a positive critical reception, with most negatives surrounding the game’s poor technical stability.

The game’s Switch version seems to be faring the worst in terms of technical performance, as legions of fans have pointed out in recent days. Sonic 2022 will be releasing in, well, 2022 – but details for that game remain paper-thin for now.

Quick aside: we've seen some graphical issues that were caused by an emulator which is unfortunately outside our control.

Trying to figure out what bugs are legitimate can really slow down the QA process. If you're having issues, please do flag them here: https://t.co/vymOVVEyZp

Each Wisp offers a unique ability, whether it's filling the Boost Gauge or turning Sonic into a laser to shoot through enemies.

Sega’s Sonic Colors gets a new lease on life when its HD remaster launches next month courtesy of Blind Squirrel Entertainment. Set in Doctor Eggman’s Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park, Sonic and Tails must fight to save the Wisps from his evil plans. The Wisps can also help the duo out with different abilities, as detailed in the newest trailer below.

There are nine Wisps in total, starting with the White Wisp who fills the Boost Gauge. Others offer more transformative effects like the Cyan Wisp which turns Sonic into a laser that moves quickly and also electrocute enemies or the Pink Wisp that lets one roll up walls by turning into a spike. Each Wisp changes up the gameplay significantly and can open up new paths to explore.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate is slated to release on September 7th for Xbox One, PS4, PC (via the Epic Games Store) and Nintendo Switch. Head here for additional details on the remaster’s features.

The new remaster sees a lot of improvements from the original, including a remixed soundtrack, improved resolution, and more.

While the Sonic franchise took something of a break last year, 2022 is promising a big shake up for the series with an as of now unnamed new entry that will take the iconic hedgehog into the future. For now, though, it’s time to revisit the past with a new remaster, Sonic Colors Ultimate. The game revisits the 2010 game (specifically, the Wii version of that title), and Sega has been showing off bits and pieces of it leading up to the release later this year. Now we get a breakdown of what improvements are here.

The new trailer, which you can see in full below, is entitled HD Updates Spotlight. There we see Ultimate side by side with the original release to give an idea of how big a jump this is. It also lists the various improvements, such as 4K resolution and 60 FPS (it is unclear what they are aiming for with the Switch version), a new mode where you race Metal Sonic for rewards, items you can buy to customize Sonic, and a remixed soundtrack.

Sonic Colors Ultimate will release on September 17th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.

Could the remastered collection live?

Mortal Kombat 11 came out last year to solidify the fighting series as the biggest one in the game with great critical and financial reception, and is still getting support today. It ended a trilogy that began with time travel, and we reported all the way back in April of last year that there was plans to go back in the past again in a more literal sense with a remastered collection of the first three titles in the franchise (you can read all about that through here). While the project seemed to be dead, a new rating seems it could have seen a resurrection.

A rating for a Mortal Kombat Kollection Online popped up via the Europe PEGI rating system. The listing says it includes updated art, gameplay and online features to classic titles. It’s not clear if this the same collection that Blind Squirrel Games was working on or not, but it seems to match up with what we know about that project.

The collection was rated for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC, which also matches all the platforms Mortal Kombat 11 released on. It’s been quite some time since we’ve been able to play the older games on modern platforms, so it will be fun to revisit them if this pans out. We’ll keep you updated as more news comes.

With Mortal Kombat 11 getting close, it’s interesting to think to the long-running series’ past. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of access to it at this point. While in the past the original titles have seen re-release, the most recent being the Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection for PS3 and 360, which featured the original trilogy, the series has largely not seen many re-releases beyond that (any games post MK3 have seen no HD remasters for current hardware or PC). That was going to change at one point, because it seems Blind Squirrel Games was working on a remastering of the original trilogy.

Concept and UI artist Danny Huynh recently updated some art of the nixed collection to his Art Station and identified the game simply as Mortal Kombat Remastered that would have featured new remasters of the original trilogy (it was renamed from Mortal Kombat Kollection at some point). He’s since deleted his screens, as well as what he said about the game, but DSO Gaming have archived it all.

Nothing was said about platforms, but from the screens we can see they had plans for a Krypt feature, as well as an XP system of some kind. It’s interesting to think what could have been, checking out the gallery below. We may not be able to look to game’s past, but the future is almost here, with Mortal Kombat 11 releasing April 23rd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Last week, Sunset Overdrive finally launched on PC (also available on Steam), four years after its initial Xbox One launch, which means there are many who’re experiencing Insomniac’s incredible open world title for the first time ever. Now, Blind Squirrel Games, who handled the game’s PC port, have released an update for the game that fixes a few of the issues that players have noticed so far.

So what are these changes exactly? For starters, mouse sensitivity has been improved, and once you download the update and adjust your in-game mouse sensitivity, you “should see a noticeable improvement”. Some players were also facing an issue where the game was preventing some people from playing due to how it was detecting minimum system specifications, which has also been addressed. Finally, players with Cyrillic (or non-ASCII) characters in their usernames were having issues with save files- that should no longer be the case either.

Keep in mind, though, that this update has only been rolled out as a public test build to a beta-branch in order to address some of the issues for players before Thanksgiving week, and that if you want to give the build a go, you’ll have to opt into the public test beta yourself. These changes, though, will be included in the game’s main update, which comes next week.
