When BlizzCon 2017 was done and dusted, many fans were satisfied with the announcements made. However, there were a number of questions raised. Even if there was going to be no Diablo news, what was the status of the rumoured Diablo 2 remaster? Would there be a Warcraft 3 remaster happening or not?

PCGamesN spoke to senior producer Peter Stilwell who’s working on the Classic Games team and noted that StarCraft was easy to remaster because it’s balance was pretty much “perfect”. Right now, Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 have a number of issues that need to be ironed out before remastering.

That includes a “stale” map pool in Warcraft 3 and that the Undead “only really has one build order”. There are requests to change the game being made and the PTR remains active. Blizzard will keep soliciting feedback in the meantime.

For Diablo 2, it’s a question of hackers on the leaderboards. Stilwell’s end goal is to “keep rolling seasons but maybe eventually be good enough at combating them that you see real names at the top of the leaderboard again.” So until that’s sorted, a remaster is on hold. Once Blizzard figures out a way to fix things without affecting the two games’ current communities, there could be some progress made. But that won’t be any time soon.

World of Warcraft’s newest expansion was finally unveiled at BlizzCon 2017 and it’s called Battle of Azeroth. The opening cinematic was also revealed and showcased the battle between the Horde and Alliance. For hardcore WoW fans, Jaina Proudmoore also re-emerged in the features video, making her first appearance since the launch of Legion.

Battle of Azeroth will be a meaty expansion. Horde players will travel to the continent of Zandalar while the Alliance will head to Kul Tiras to garner allies. There will be new playable Allied Races each with their own unique abilities and they include Highmountain tauren, Dark Iron dwarves, Void elves and much more. There will also be new Island to explore which contain changing enemies and objectives. Players will fight as groups of three and compete against other teams to plunder resources.

A new resource called Azerite is also being added and players can combine it with the Heart of Azeroth to customize their armour with new traits and powers. If that weren’t enough, there’s a new level cap of 120, a new raid with eight bosses, dungeons, World Quests and a new cooperative 20 player mode called Warfront that calls to mind the old Warcraft games.

Though a release date wasn’t provided, you can expect the expansion to go into beta sometime soon. It’s safe to say that Battle of Azeroth is 2018-bound but we’ll have to wait for more information.

Blizzard Entertainment’s biggest event of the year, BlizzCon 2017, is finally here. The event will be running from November 3rd to 4th and is usually the hotspot for all new information relating to the company’s top franchises. That means you’ll be hearing all the latest news of content coming to Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm and more.

The Opening Ceremony will actually begin today at 11 AM PT but if you want to start the hype train early (or partake in some good ol’ chat cancer before the main show), you can check out the All Access Preshot at 10:30 AM PDT. Rumours are that World of Warcraft will unveil its newest expansion tonight while Overwatch will showcase its new hero. We may even get a new animated short or two for Blizzard’s games.

Blizzard Entertainment has finally released its schedule for BlizzCon 2017 and there’s quite a lot it’s teasing. The event takes place on November 3rd, starting with news for World of Warcraft at 12:30 PM PDT (though BlizzCon will last till November 4th).

From the description, it seems the team will either reveal its next major content update for World of Warcraft: Legion or it will unveil its next expansion. StarCraft 2 also apparently has things coming from updates to “some other surprises”.

Hearthstone promises to offer a look into how the Year of the Mammoth will come to a close and Overwatch players will also learn about the new updates that are coming.

There won’t be any Diablo news but Blizzard has stated that it’s hard at work on the series’ future and will reveal more information when the time is right. As for Overwatch, it will see the Halloween Terror event returning on October 10th with new skins. If you can’t attend BlizzCon 2017, then virtual tickets are available for learning about the various announcements.

It’s crazy to think that Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo 3 was first released in 2012 with its follow-up expansion Reaper of Souls releasing in 2014. The game has been supported with a number of free updates including new regions, new Legendaries and new enemies since then. It even saw a new paid class with the Necromancer releasing earlier this year.

However, everyone is waiting for that next big Diablo announcement, whether it’s news on a brand new expansion or a sequel. Unfortunately, if you’ve been holding out for BlizzCon to see any news, you’ll need to wait longer. Blizzard community manager Brandy Camel noted in the official forums that while the developer was “hard at work on the future of Diablo and exploring what’s next for the franchise”, there won’t be any announcements at BlizzCon.

“This year, we want to give you a heads-up that while Diablo will be on the show floor, we won’t be making any new Diablo announcements. There will be a time for that at some point in the future, but that time is not now,” Camel said.

Diablo 3 does currently have a major balance patch on the Public Test Realm which buffs a number of sets, items and classes, thus increasing build diversity for the better. That doesn’t currently have a release date but it’s expected to coincide with the next Season.
