Few retails have Day One Editions in stock.

Remember how it was clarified that consumers would only receive free digital copies of FIFA 14 if they pre-ordered the Day One Edition of the Xbox One in Europe? Well, nabbing one is about to get tougher as retailers such as Amazon, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Toys R Us are reporting it’s sold out. Some like Amazon can’t even guarantee a Standard Edition on launch day in the UK.

GAME has the Day One Edition but this is along with the Prestige Edition of Call of Duty: Ghosts and retails for £614.98. ShopTo also has Day One Editions but again bundled with Battlefield 4 and £15 Microsoft Store credit at £489 bundle. There’s also the £575 bundle which features a second controller, Ryse: Son of Rome, Watch_Dogs and £10 Store credit.

For now, GameStop, Asda, Blockbuster and Currys still have Day One Editions stocked, though Asda and Blockbuster need a £20 deposit.

The Xbox One will be launching in Europe this November, though it’s primarily the UK that will be receiving it thanks to a delay in countries like Norway, Switzerland and 6 others.

For all the bile and venom – all justified mind you – that the world has poured on the Xbox One, it seems that retail response will be one of the things that doesn’t agree with us: Blockbuster has announced that the Xbox One has broken all previous records for pre-order launches in the retailer’s history.

Head of games James Morton stated that, “We are delighted by the huge number of pre orders that we have received so far for the new Microsoft console. At Blockbuster, we have a fantastic array of adrenaline-fuelled console games for sale or rental. Our expert staff know gaming and they know consoles and these pre-orders are testament to our customers’ trust in us as a leading gaming retailer.

“With Sony releasing the PS4 in the near future, the next few months are going to be an exciting time for our staff and customers at Blockbuster and we can’t wait to hear more details from both Sony and Microsoft at the E3 Expo next month.”

Surprised?

BIOWARE’S MASS EFFECT 2 HAILED AS 1st BLOCKBUSTER OF 2010

Game Earns Rave Reviews, Sells 2 Million Units in Week One

Guildford, UK (January 29, 2010) – Forty perfect scores. Two million units. One pop culture phenomenon. BioWare™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), announced today that Mass Effect™ 2 has sold-in over two million units worldwide in its first week of release*. Mass Effect 2 has earned 40 perfect scores, amassed over 30 editor’s choice awards and is donning the front cover of 20 magazines worldwide. On launch day, the term “Mass Effect” was in the top 10 trending topics on Twitter and most searched on Google News. MSNBC.com said, “Mass Effect will go down as one of the most influential video game series of all-time.”

Dr. Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare and Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group of EA said, “Mass Effect 2 is poised to be one of the biggest games of 2010. We could not be more proud of the game’s universal acclaim and early commercial success.”

Mass Effect 2 launched this week hot on the heels of BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins, the studio’s dark fantasy RPG which shipped in fall 2009. Dragon Age: Origins has earned an average review score of 91****, making it the highest rated original intellectual property from EA in the last year. Mass Effect 2 follows in BioWare’s tradition of delivering excellence on every front: gameplay, story, character development and visuals. In Mass Effect 2, players step into the role of the heroic Commander Shepard, leading a crew of some of the most dangerous operatives from across the galaxy on a mission so challenging that it’s potentially suicidal. Featuring intense action, a rich storyline, space exploration and engaging character interaction, Mass Effect 2 delivers an unparalleled gaming experience.

Mass Effect 2 is available for the Xbox 360 and the PC and is 15 by the BBFC. For more information, follow the development team on Twitter at http://twitter.com/masseffect2 or visit the game’s official UK website at http://getmasseffect.ea.com.
