Blood Bowl 2, the excellent alternate take on American Football, gets the launch of its Legendary Edition today- and to celebrate that launch, publishers Focus Home Interactive have shared a brand new trailer, showing us the kind of gleefully over the top football action that we can expect.

Blood Bowl 2 originally launched in 2015, based on the popular board game of the same name. The Legendary Edition consolidates the game with all of its DLC so far, while also adding new races, new stadiums, and a host of other new content to the game. Essentially, if you have not already jumped in on the game, but wanted to, this Legendary Edition is your best bet.

You can check out the trailer for the game for yourself below. Blood Bowl 2: Legendary Edition is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC- if you liked Rocket League, and wanted something similar for American Football, this game is it.

Luck and lack of depth leaves this promising turn-based sports game sitting on the bench.

Blood Bowl 2 might have one of the most innovative set-ups for a game I’ve ever seen. Take American football, throw in a bunch of supernatural creatures, make it ultra-violent, have two humorous monsters commentate on the matches, and make the whole thing a turn-based strategy game.

Blood Bowl 2 is a sports game, kind of. It’s based on American football, but seems to be closer to rugby in its rule-set. Surprisingly, the game isn’t played like Madden, for example, rather it’s a turn-based strategy game not too dissimilar to Wasteland 2 or Shadowurn Hong Kong. There’s an invisible grid on the field, and you can move all your players a set number of squares each turn. Players can move one or two squares past their natural limit, but if you do, you risk them passing out and falling down for that turn. Like any sports game, whoever has the most points after each game, consisting of 16 turns, wins.

What you do during these turns depends on if you’re on offense or defense. In theory, while on offense you grab the ball and move up the field, using your other players to cover the ball carrier so he can score. If you’re on defense, you need to evenly cover the field and stop the opposing team from scoring. That’s just theory though, in practice, if you’re on offense you don’t need to bother using your other player to defend the ball carrier, and on defense you only need to send one or two players after the ball carrier and you’re good. That’s because the AI, more often than not, ignores the ball. If they do get the ball, the last thing they’re going to do is even attempt to score a touchdown. The AI is more interested in fighting than actually winning the game.

"Although the different races have their own looks and abilities, they all have basically the same move set. It would have been nice if their animations or attacks were more varied."

That’s where the violence comes in, because instead of simply tackling opposing players, you beat the crap out of them. Attacking consists of rolling anywhere between one and three die, depending on that player’s skill, and picking the best option. You can simply push an opponent, knock them down, stun them for an extra turn, or KO them to get them out of the game for several turns. This dice system works for you and the AI, and if you’re unlucky, the dice will come up negatively and the attacker will end up getting knocked out. This is a good system in that it ensures the team with the better stats doesn’t win every match by knocking out the weaker players. But if you’re the one with better players, then it can get frustrating getting knocked out on a bad dice roll, or being tripped up and knocked down before you have a chance to do anything.

In the campaign mode, you’re stuck playing as the Reikland Reavers, a human team. Outside the campaign however, you can customize your team including their race. Available races include humans, elves, goblins, ogres, and Lizardmen. They all have their own unique abilities, the humans being the “jack of all trades” type, but what that means exactly is left vague. You can customize your team name, team motto, and uniform options, though you can only select from premade uniforms. There aren’t many customization options available there, or with your team’s stadium.

Although the different races have their own looks and abilities, they all have basically the same move set. It would have been nice if their animations or attacks were more varied. Maybe the goblins can climb on top of one another and jump on humans and hit them really fast, several times over. Or perhaps ogres knock opponents down and stomp on them, and vampires could suck your player’s blood. It would have added a lot to the rather dull fights, and watching 11 players on both teams slowly move to their destination.

"Between fans invading the pitch, refs being paid off, players randomly fumbling the ball, players being knocked down on your own turn, the randomness of the dice, and turnovers, whatever element of strategy added by buying re-rolls or lining up your players in certain formations is rendered useless."

Speaking of which, there’s no skipping your opponents turn, so you have to sit there and watch the whole thing. Which brings up another good point, the matches tend to go on far too long. Both teams consist of 11 players, and moving every single one of them every turn can really take ages.

That’s one of several small annoying mechanics this game has to offer. As I mentioned earlier, players will try to knock down opposing players even when it’s not their turn. Your players will be knocked down way more often than opposing players, and while it displays the odds of dodging a trip before you start an action, I’m pretty sure that feature is glitched. In all the matches I played, it never read anything other than “67% chance to dodge,” and more often than not, my player didn’t dodge.

What makes this annoying is the turnover mechanic that’s introduced after the first three matches. With a turnover, any time you fail an action, like dropping the ball after trying to pick it up, or a dice roll not going your way, your turn is automatically over, and your opponent gets to go. This goes both ways, but it’s not a very good mechanic, because it discourages you from taking risks. With the AI constantly starting fights, every time they roll a bad set of dice, they forfeit their turn. This could be viewed as a great way to balance it out, but frankly, you never need to take risks anyway.

The game offers little in the way of pre-game strategy. Induvial player stats don’t seem to rise the more games they play, and there’s no way to train players. Free agent players don’t have any better stats, just a different distribution of points per category. You can buy things like re-rolls which allow you to essentially rewind the last move and try it again, or cheerleaders and medical facilities that help your team in very small ways.

"The gameplay tries to be deep and strategic, but falls flat on its face. It can be fun to run up the score in the single player mode, and the chaotic mess of multiplayer showdowns can get intense if the score is close, but it would have been so much better if some of the elements of luck were cut down some."

There’s a lot that can happen within matches. The game doesn’t take itself too seriously, so fans can invade the pitch and randomly knock out several players from both teams, and refs will be bribed and knock out players. Other things can go wrong as well, such as players dropping the ball, not being able to pick it up, and your opponent having re-rolls as well to fix their mistakes.

This leads me to what I’ve been building to, the game’s biggest problem.

Luck is an integral part to any turn-based strategy game, how big a factor it is goes a long way in determining how good the game is. The level of luck versus strategy in the genre is always going to be subjective, but here luck plays far too great a role. Between fans invading the pitch, refs being paid off, players randomly fumbling the ball, players being knocked down on your own turn, the randomness of the dice, and turnovers, whatever element of strategy added by buying re-rolls or lining up your players in certain formations is rendered useless.

Yet somehow the luck factor is never more than an annoyance, the game is far too easy because the AI never bothers even attempting to score.

Now I know what you’re all saying: the real test of the game’s mechanics comes in the online mode. Well, that’s where the luck goes from minor inconvenience to game breaking. Matches are a total free-for-all, with neither side using any strategy other than a mad rush for the ball and then the opponent’s end zone. More often than not, my opponent would ignore all the players on the field except the ball carrier, and I would do the same, because there’s no need to pick fights with anyone else.

The gameplay tries to be deep and strategic, but falls flat on its face. It can be fun to run up the score in the single player mode, and the chaotic mess of multiplayer showdowns can get intense if the score is close, but it would have been so much better if some of the elements of luck were cut down some. Getting past that, there isn’t much to the game other than these matches either. There’s no training mode, no dynasty mode, no team management, there’s only playing an endless number of matches over and over again. It’s a shame, because on a technical level, the game is well made and presented.

Blood Bowl 2 has a lot of heart coming through in the commentators, Jim and Bob. In the game’s cutscenes, they explain the rather barebones story of the campaign mode to you. You’re a rookie coach on a once great team and you have to bring it back to its former glory. Nothing too exciting there. However, the banter and jokes between the two add a level of humor and charm to the otherwise brutal and bloody gameplay.

"Blood Bowl 2 is one of those kinds of games where just when it starts to show how good it can be, it does something stupid that reminds you that the game isn’t all that great after all."

It’s a shame they don’t have many lines in game. They rarely speak during matches, and whenever they do, they often repeat themselves several times throughout the course of a game. It’s also here that we see some of the game’s humor falter. Expect to hear side-splitting “jokes” such as mentions of “Game of Gnomes,” and other hilarious knock-offs such as the “Wolf News Network,” and social media favorites like “Twerper” (featuring “Smashtags”) and “FaceTome.”

Although stadiums are actually empty, they do at least play crowd noise. You can’t see into the stands too well during gameplay, so it does a good job of at least creating the illusion of being in a packed, bustling stadium. Given the bloodthirstiness of the announcers, fans, refs, and opposing players, the atmosphere really does a great job of establishing this hellish feeling of a dangerous, monstrous game.

Blood Bowl II is one of those kinds of games where just when it starts to show how good it can be, it does something stupid that reminds you that the game isn’t all that great after all. It’s let down by its lack of strategy, too many random elements, and a lack of overall depth. But when it’s at its best, it’s good chaotic fun that actually has me wanting to play more, and immerse myself in the unique atmosphere.

The surreal hilarity.

In the last of the videos dedicated to introducing the various races that will be in the upcoming Blood Bowl 2, the one released just today introduces us to the Orcs and the High Elves. Orcs, of course, are very well guarded, and are great for players looking for offensive tactics and gameplay; High Elves, meanwhile, have almost unlimited funds, and can afford to have better armour than other teams. They can also count on their ability to play a superb aerial game, thanks to their first class passers and catchers.

With its surreal take on American Football (Warhammer’s fantasy world meets American Football, what were they on, really), Blood Bowl 2 looks to be one of the best and most unusual multiplayer games, and takes on the sport we have had in a while. Who knows, it might even be the American Football equivalent of Rocket League.

Blood Bowl 2 is out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The beta for Blood Bowl 2 is now live; players who pre-ordered the game on Steam can now play the beta starting today. The beta includes both multiplayer and one-off matches against AI bots. The races currently available include Humans, Orcs, Skaven, and Dwarfs, and the final game will have even more races, including the Bretonnians (which you can see in the trailer below), and the Wood Elves and Lizardmen, which you get for pre-ordering the game.

Unlike a lot of the other betas these days, all your progress and data from the beta will carry over into the final game, so you can invest yourself fully into it, without worrying about it all having been for nothing. Personally, that would get me invested in playing the beta.

There is also a brand new trailer, which you can see for yourself below.

Blood Bowl 2 will release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One September 22. Stay tuned for more coverage.

Enter the brutal fantasy pavilion once more on the current generation of consoles.

Cyanide Studios has a rather intriguing title coming up in the next month amid all the AAA releases that usually dictate the end of the year. As a fusion of hardcore, futuristic sports and strategic turn-based action, Blood Bowl 2 will return with a myriad of teams and a deeply involving story for fans of the original to sink their teeth into. The difference this time around is that Cyanide will be developing solely on the current gen consoles. What high definition shenanigans will this result in on the field?

Speaking to GamingBolt, Sylvain Séchi of Focus Home Interactive – which is publishing Blood Bowl 2 – told us about the various new features including the new Cyatech engine, how the story mode will work out and much, much more.

"Our main art direction was to mimic the TV sport channel branding. We actually had to mix their modern design with our fantasy and magical setting. This whole idea has been applied to the match, to the interface and to the studio too! We actually see Jim & Bob, the commentators, in their booth."

Rashid K. Sayed: What drove the desire for turn-based gameplay compared to the original’s real-time nature? How will the emphasis on strategy and 3D dice rolls appeal to those accustomed to the first game’s instant action?

Sylvain Séchi: The original game featured two different modes: real-time and turn-based. This was practically two different game designs in the same game. We are still quite proud of both of them but it was also a community splitter. When looking for an opponent online, you won’t match with someone who doesn’t play the same mode as you. For Blood Bowl 2, we decided to focus entirely on the turn based mode, which was the most popular one.

Rashid K. Sayed: What benefits does the new engine for Blood Bowl 2 provide over the original?

Sylvain Séchi: BB2 is our first game running on “Cyatech”, the new engine and production pipeline developed by our R&D team.

The graphics engine was completely rewritten and optimized for modern multi-core CPUs and APUs (Accelerated Processing Unit) on consoles. The game benefits from several features we were able to develop:

Highly populated stadiums: we can render and animate a large number of characters on screen (up to 10,000)

Runtime accurate ambient lighting: the graphics engine computes the propagation of colors and light throughout the scene providing better coherence to lighting (for instance, the high contrast of the pitch grass and the blue sky is propagated on all the objects of the scene, giving it a more physically accurate and better look).

High objects density in stadiums: our artists and level designers were able to express their creativity and create many elements and decorative props inside the different stadiums. We hope the players will be pleased when they unlock the high level stadiums.

More complex characters and animations: the characters are now much more detailed with complex animations like the tentacles of mutated skavens

Rashid K. Sayed: What steps were taken to improve the overall presentation of the game, from animations to commentary, in order to bring it closer in line to an actual sports broadcast?

Sylvain Séchi: Our main art direction was to mimic the TV sport channel branding. We actually had to mix their modern design with our fantasy and magical setting. This whole idea has been applied to the match, to the interface and to the studio too! We actually see Jim & Bob, the commentators, in their booth.

About the match commentaries, we reworked the balance between common and rare commentaries. The system also uses an excitement gauge to play frantic commentary when there is nonstop action and calmer commentary when nothing much is happening.

"You are sent here to save the situation (and the world). Every match features specific events which have a real impact on the match itself and most of them will be introduced through exclusive cutscenes."

Rashid K. Sayed: With a name like Blood Bowl, what efforts have been made to make the game even more brutal and bloody than the original?

Sylvain Séchi: During a match, you are going to experience some great cutscenes to make you feel the action from inside. They are short and visceral and only play when you deserve it the most. We worked a lot on the global pace, showing cutscenes when we feel it’s a good thing, and staying in this coach overall view otherwise. As you said, Blood Bowl is a brutal sport and the majority of these cutscenes feature violent attacks. Our cinematic designer is a real fan of sport broadcast and he watched a lot of sport footage (and Asian action movies too) before doing his work.

Rashid K. Sayed: With the varied races in Blood Bowl 2, will we see some kind of story mode play out? Will the Reikland Reavers have their own cinematic saga of glory?

Sylvain Séchi: We absolutely have a story driven campaign in Blood Bowl 2. This mode should about 30 hours long and it’s the perfect place to discover everything about the game from the universe to the rules themselves. You are the newly appointed coach of the Reikland Reavers, the most famous team in this world. They are in a terrible situation, players have grown old, and some of the younger ones are completely untalented.

You are sent here to save the situation (and the world). Every match features specific events which have a real impact on the match itself and most of them will be introduced through exclusive cutscenes. As an example, one match will start with a crash of a cabalcopter. This wooden machine piloted with a goblin has been sabotaged and you will have to play the match with burning wreckage lying in the middle of the pitch.

Rashid K. Sayed: Blood Bowl 2 will mark the first time the franchise has come to the Xbox One and PS4. What has the development process been like compared to the Xbox 360 and how did the new consoles improve on the game’s core mechanics?

Sylvain Séchi: Thanks to the new generation of consoles, we succeed to retransmit the feelings of very special atmosphere of the Blood bowl stadiums: supercharged and bigger than ever.

"On top of this, we added race specific behaviors. In the Blood Bowl universe, Dark Elves are completely psychotic and that’s something we wanted to make you feel on the pitch. "

The cheering of the ravenous fans filling the huge stadiums to the brink, the dynamic cameras enhancing the brutal atmosphere of the matches…everything will be there! The Xbox One and PS4 also provide a lot of multiplayer tools available which is very useful for games like Blood bowl with a large community and an important multiplayer mode.

Rashid K. Sayed: A lot of work has gone into overhauling the AI from scratch. We’re interested in how each race will have its own distinctive AI. Will this lead to them falling into the same patterns or being afraid to try different strategies against skilled players?

Sylvain Séchi: We have a huge part of the AI process which is common to all races. How do I defend? How do I attack? What are my possibilities? However, every team has its own characteristics and they are going to change all the choice of this common decision tree. Should I pass my ball or run with it? If I am an elf with a high agility, the answer will be a pass.

On top of this, we added race specific behaviors. In the Blood Bowl universe, Dark Elves are completely psychotic and that’s something we wanted to make you feel on the pitch. While most of team only uses the foul action when needed, the dark elf will have a natural fondness for it.

Rashid K. Sayed: Will the toolbox used to create the new AI scripting eventually make its way to the community?

Sylvain Séchi: This is something we do not know yet, we need to think about it. We’ll be able to confirm or inform at a later date, if distributing the tool is a possibility!

Rashid K. Sayed: What can you tell us about some of the new teams in Blood Bowl 2 (or at least details about how some, like the Bretonnian Knights, will play compared to the rest)?

Sylvain Séchi: Bretonnians are a “second human race” but they live in an Arthurian feudal country.

Rich people are very rich and poor people are… very poor. This diversity can be felt through the team roster. You have some of the best players in Blood Bowl, they are the Grail knight (Blitzer), running, hitting and playing the ball. But you don’t have a lot of them on the pitch. At the opposite side, you have the peasants (Lineman) who are clumsy, coward and ugly. They are great as a meat shield. But you will have to use all you team asset to be a good Bretonnian team coach.

"The graphics API panel is certainly evolving at a very quick pace these last few years, and it’s going to keep evolving quickly (DirectX12 iterations, Vulcan…). However, the PC hardware is still very different from the consoles as it’s much more diverse."

Rashid K. Sayed: What is currently the post-launch plan for Blood Bowl 2 content? Will you go ahead with selling different playable races separately?

Sylvain Séchi: Sadly, we are unable to give more info about that, as we’re still debating how and when we will develop and distribute the new races.

Rashid K. Sayed: Will Blood Bowl 2 run at 1080p and 60fps on both the PS4 and Xbox One?

Sylvain Séchi: The game will run at 1080p@30Fps on Playsation4 and 900p@30Fps (with 1080p user interface) on XboxOne with anti-aliasing.

Rashid K. Sayed: Console development trends do have an impact on PC gaming. If you were building a mainstream gaming PC now with the future in mind, what choices would you make? Mantle, DirectX 12 – things are changing radically in the PC space. Are we essentially looking at PC finally catching up with innovations in the console space? Can PC sustain two, three APIs?

Sylvain Séchi: The graphics API panel is certainly evolving at a very quick pace these last few years, and it’s going to keep evolving quickly (DirectX12 iterations, Vulcan…). However, the PC hardware is still very different from the consoles as it’s much more diverse. Therefore, low level APis like those available on consoles will still suffer from this diversity and optimization will depend on how specific the code will be.

Rashid K. Sayed: Is there anything else you want to tell us before we let you go?

Sylvain Séchi: Blood Bowl 2 features a host of all-new features and developments over the original Blood Bowl Chaos Edition. Prepare your team to enter in a brand new experience… and may Nuffle bless your dice!

Focus Home Interactive’s Blood Bowl 2 is an interesting title in today’s atmosphere. It’s not quite AAA but it offers some stellar sports action with a twist, much like current indie hit Rocket League. How will it run on the Xbox One and PS4 though?

We spoke to Focus Home Interactive’s Sylvain Séchi about whether it would be running at 1080p and 60 FPS on both consoles. Séchi stated that, “The game will run at 1080p@30Fps on PlayStation 4 and 900p@30Fps (with 1080p user interface) on Xbox One with anti-aliasing.”

The second point is interesting since it could mean better AA on the Xbox One (much like how many third party releases see improved anisotropic filtering on the Xbox One). Whether that’s actually case remains to be seen but we’ll keep an eye out for it in the coming months.

Blood Bowl 2 releases on September 22nd for PS4, Xbox One and PC. What are your thoughts on its resolution and frame rate? Let us know in the comments.

Announced a few months ago, Blood Bowl 2 just got an official overview trailer in order to show people just what they can expect from the series that saw it’s first game released a couple of decades ago. Not coincidentally the release window of the sequel is pretty close to when the real life NFL season kicks off.

In Blood Bowl 2, you can play as an orc or a human being or a ton of other interesting races and see who has the heart to make it all the way to the Blood Bowl during the same period when real life football players are just hoping to make it to the playoffs. Coming for the PS4, Xbox One and PC, the game is now available for pre-order and there will be a special race of player unlocked depending on just what platform you decide to go with.

PS4 players will unlock the Lizardmen, who have their own AI as well as skins. They also get the star players, Slibli and Hemlock. Xbox One gamers will get the Wood Elves, complete with star players Dolfar Longstride and Jordell Freshbreeze. PC gamers will be able to choose which of the two races they want, and will also get to participate in the upcoming Multiplayer Beta. Check out the overview video below and get a feel about what you can expect. Blood Bowl 2 launches for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC on September 22.

Focus Home Interactive's Sylvain Séchi on the impact of new APIs on video games.

GamingBolt recently caught up with Focus Home Interactive’s Sylvain Séchi to talk about the publisher’s upcoming Blood Bowl 2. During our conversation, GamingBolt was able to ask about upcoming APIs on PC and consoles. Vulkan and DirectX 12 are expected to change things radically in the PC space. Will this mean that gaming PCs will finally catch up with innovations in the console space and can PC sustain more than one API?

“The graphics API panel is certainly evolving at a very quick pace these last few years, and it’s going to keep evolving quickly (DirectX12 iterations, Vulcan,..),” says Sylvain. However Sylvain believes that this diversity on the PC gaming side of things might affect consoles and it will depend from developer to developer on how they write their code. “However, the PC hardware is still very different from the consoles as it’s much more diverse. Therefore, low level APIs like those available on consoles will still suffer from this diversity and optimization will depend on how specific the code will be.”

Sylvain has a point since the APIs on consoles already have the ability to allow programmers to code close to the metal. Vulkan and DirectX 12 will bring in big changes for PC games development scene but the console scene will probably remain unaffected.

Blood Bowl 2 is an upcoming fantasy American football-inspired video game that is based on a Games Workshop tabletop IP. It’s currently being developed by the French developer, Cyanide, the same studio behind Styx: Master of Shadows, Of Orcs and Men and the original Blood Bowl which launched in 2009.

The game will be published by Focus Home Interactive, the same group that published the original Blood Bowl and the recently released Cities XXL.

Blood Bowl 2 is slated to release in Spring 2015 where it will be made available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. A Steam listing has the game set for June. The official site for Blood Bowl also lists a Blood Bowl game for iPad and Android, but this is an unrelated port of the original game.

Like Blood Bowl before it, Blood Bowl 2 is based on a Games Workshop IP that started out as a tabletop fantasy football game.

Unlike the original Blood Bowl, a game that mixed real time gameplay with a turn based mechanic, Blood Bowl 2 will put an emphasis on the turn-based and strategic elements of the game.

Speaking about this, Blood Bowl 2’s Lead Game Designer Gauthier Brunet has said, “Blood Bowl II will not feature a real-time mode. We have made this choice to focus on the turn-based gameplay as much as possible and bring a polished and updated version of it.”

Despite having only detailed 2 of the playable races coming to Blood Bowl 2 (see the Teams portion of this Wiki for more) the game will feature eight races that the player can control. This will be expanded on post release, presumably by way of an expansion or DLC. This has been done before with Blood Bowl, with the all content eventually being collected into the Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition.

Speaking about playable races and the intent of expanding the roster post launch, Gauthier Brunet has said, “Blood Bowl 2 will feature eight different races at release: Human, Orc, Skaven, Dwarf, High Elf, Dark Elf, Chaos and Bretonnian. The Bretonnian roster is entirely exclusive to Blood Bowl II. Of course, more races will join the initial eight after release.”

He later added, “We have much more content to add to the game and we are really thinking about those 15 other teams. We still don’t know how they’re going to get that into the game, whether it’s DLC, expansions or an in-game store… we’ll speak more about this when the decision has been made.”

Expanding on the possibility of races as post-launch content, project manager Sylvain Sechi, has said, “I personally don’t like to milk players, I’m not keen on the extension package retail model, so we are discussing a lot about trying to sell players races individually, which will eventually I think cost much less for players because you don’t play with all races. Each of us we have two, three, four favourite races, some of which will already be in the Blood Bowl 2 original content. We’re still discussing it at this point, I hope we manage to do this one-purchase-per-race stuff.”

The game will be running on a brand new, internally developed engine that currently doesn’t have a name. This engine will have hardware specifications that are “higher than the original Blood Bowl”, but the developer has said that it is taking steps to make the game playable on low-end PCs too.

Blood Bowl 2 will retain its distinct visual style, with the new engine adding to the quality of the graphics, and it will also retain the camera angles that were inspired by actual American football camera placement. This is to make the game look as though it is actually being broadcast by the fictional broadcaster, Cabalvision. Commentary will once again be in place with Jim and Bob back where they belong to bring dry humour and puns to the pitch.

This latest iteration of the Blood Bowl IP will feature a new user interface to bring players “improved visual feedback” that makes them game look more “modern” and “fresher”. Before, players wouldn’t know the outcome of planned moves or the probability of actions until a move was made. Now, these percentages are displayed directly on the field.

A number of other smaller improvements have been made, including improved character animations.

Story

The game won’t feature a traditional story but there will be a match-based campaign that will have a plot which players can play through.

The campaign will act as a tutorial of sorts for players in the early stages, introducing players to the basics of the gameplay mechanics, but it will also follow the rise of the once mighty team, the Reikland Reavers which is comprised of humans.

Gameplay

As you would expect, not much has been changed in this iteration of the classic Games Workshop IP brought to life by Cyanide.

The game is now an entirely turn-based affair, with any notion of real-time gameplay having been removed to help bring a focus on the game’s tactical and strategic angles.

The AI has also been given an overhaul. Where it was already punishing, it’s expected to now put up the same amount of resistance as an experienced player. Speaking about this by way of an info panel, Cyanide said, “Each of the eight races has had its own AI engineered to match their personalities, creating a much more dynamic challenge.”

As mentioned above, Blood Bowl 2 will now display the feedback from your moves before you commit to them, helping you to make better informed decisions on the field, or to convince you to try your luck with risky moves. “3D dice-rolls pop much more in Blood Bowl 2, with intuitive player control enabling coaches to make decisions more confidently. Enjoy clearly visible percentages displayed to indicate the success of an action, and useful tooltips,” according to Cyanide

The game will also feature a market place for in-game purchases as well as player customisation for both team jerseys and the stadiums with each of the five base stadiums given room to grow.

Factions

At this time, we know of eight confirmed races with more expected to release further down the line post launch. One of these new teams are the Bretonnian Knights. Despite their name they are in fact not all Knights, with a part of the team being made up of lowly peasants as well.

The current team factions are:

Human.

Orc

Skaven.

Dwarf

High Elf

Dark Elf

Chaos

Bretonnian

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.

"And He Get's Laid Out Flat!" Crushing sports returns to consoles next spring.

Players of the fantastic table top sports game Blood Bowl, which pits members of various species against each other in a vicious game of American Football styled insanity, has been officially announced to be coming to the PC, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The turn based sports classic that introduced players to a high fantasy world of tactics and sports was shown off in the Kickoff Trailer that you can see above.

Based of the monolithic Warhammer IP courtesy of GamesWorkshop, which is set in a highly stylized and beautifully recognized fantasy world, the game is set to release in the Spring of 2015 on PC with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 builds hot on its heels (fleet of foot, roll one D6).

Classic duo Jim Johnson and Bob Bifford are set to reprise their roles of the gut shatteringly funny commentators as they oversee the game of bloodsport which will have Humans, Orcs, Dwarfs, Elves, Skaven and Beastmen battle it out for supremacy on the pitch.
