New update arrives prior to Blood & Wine.

CD Projekt RED’s latest update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is out now ahead of Blood & Wine‘s release.

The update adds a fair amount of new features including the usual bug fixes and improvements. An enemy upscaling option has been added to bestow additional challenge to those who want it. You’ll also have an easier time discerning which Gwent cards you’re still missing. Check out the full patch notes here – it’s really worth reading to find out the various changes (including some fixes to problematic quests).

Blood & Wine is out on May 31st and can be pre-loaded right now. It’s roughly 10 to 15 GB depending on the platform of your choice and adds roughly 30 hours or so of new content. This will also be the last bit of DLC for The Witcher 3 though CD Projekt RED will still support the game with patches and bug fixes.

Meanwhile, the developer has teased showing off a new game at E3 2016. Stay tuned for more information on the same in the coming weeks.

Expected to arrive before E3 2016.

CD Projekt RED has talked about how Blood & Wine, the next expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will have be its biggest yet. However, it finally gave an indication as to the total landmass of the region you’ll explore.

In an interview with GameStar (translation by Reddit), the developer noted that the landmass will be as big as all the Skellige Islands from the base game combined. Considering that Skellige is absolutely enormous when taken together, that’s pretty good news. Along with a new Gwent deck, the interview also noted that Blood & Wine is expected before E3 2016. Maybe in May or the first week of June then?

The interview also noted that while a Game of the Year Edition of The Witcher 3 could release including all the patches and expansions, a retail version of all three games in the series and a remaster for the first and second Witcher aren’t on the cards.

Are you excited for Blood & Wine? Let us know in the comments.

Promises that Cyberpunk 2077 will be more ambitious than The Witcher 3.

CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may have been a strong game for the developer – netting more than 200 Game of the Year Awards – but it’s keen to maintain its approach of focusing on fewer projects at a time.

Speaking to Games Industry International, CD Projekt CEO Marcin Iwiński said that maintaining a strong level of quality has been due to large teams focused on singular projects at a time. “The Witcher finished with 80 people, The Witcher 3 finished with 250, so Cyberpunk will probably be even more. Don’t think about scale in terms of us doing 20 projects; no, we’ll focus, we’ll focus on certain things…We don’t want to be a 10 project studio. The Rockstar model is nice.”

The Rockstar model, by the way, is the studio’s habit of focusing on a single game and supporting for years at a time before bringing out a sequel. Grand Theft Auto 5 is a key example.

Iwinski noted that CD Projekt RED’s next game Cyberpunk 2077 will be more ambitious “on every single front” from The Witcher 3. The studio is also working on Blood & Wine, the next big expansion for The Witcher 3.

Vampire-ish things confirmed?

Need any more indication that The Witcher 3‘s upcoming expansion Blood & Wine will be going to the vampires? Then look no further than the cover art for the same which was recently released by CD Projekt RED. The cover was revealed on Twitter and it doesn’t really confirm what the story will be. But we know a vampire-esque thing’s wings when we see it.

The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine will be a major expansion to the base game with the brand new region of Toussaint and about 20 hours worth of content to explore. Reports indicated that the expansion would be out this June though the developer hasn’t confirmed or denied them.

Like Hearts of Stone, you can expect the same compelling quest design, story missions and mechanics that made that expansion such a joy to behold. Or at least we hope so.

What are your thoughts on the cover art for The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine? Let us know in the comments.

"The base game with expansions is simply better than without them".

Remember when CD Projekt RED hyped up Blood & Wine, the second major expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, to be better than the base game? It sounds weird when you think about it, especially because the base game was more than 100 hours long while this expansion will average some 20 hours of gameplay. Thus, CD Projekt Red marketing lead Michal Platkow-Gilewski clarified the comment to GameSpot and noted that it was a more refined experience overall.

“Blood and Wine is the sum of all the experiences we gained when creating Wild Hunt, so it’s definitely more refined than Wild Hunt in many regards, but that doesn’t mean it’s better per se.”

Along with new monsters and quests, the new location Toussaint will apparently rival the original game’s areas in terms of scale. Platkow-Gilewski noted though that, “I wouldn’t point fingers at what’s better separately, as each addition to Wild Hunt (including over 10 updates we’ve released so far) enriches the overall experience you get from The Witcher as a game in general. The base game with the expansions is simply better than without them.”

Blood & Wine is out sometime this year for Xbox One, PC and PS4 so stay tuned for more details.
