3D Realms’ Bombshell has finally gone gold, thus ending any more jokes of another delayed 3D Realms game (which are apparently so original in this day and age according to the studio).

Developed along with Interceptor Entertainment, Bombshell is an isometric shooter which features aliens, destructive weapons and an evil scientist. 3D Realms has ensured that the game is locked in for a January 29th release on PC. It will retail for $34.99 for the standard edition and $39.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition, the latter including early beta access to the Build Engine prequel, digital artbook, world map overviews and the official soundtrack.

Bombshell will be heading to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well though a release date for both these platforms has yet to be revealed. Will you be picking it up, especially considering the developer’s reputation? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information on the game.

3D Realms’ Bombshell, an isometric shooter which seems every bit as kitschy and cheesy as its older properties, has received a new trailer. You can check it out below as it provides some context to the game’s story (read: Save the President). No new gameplay footage though so prepare yourself for the absence of that.

What’s most interesting is the antagonist for the game though. Professor Jadus Heskel is opposing Bombshell but his voice actor Jon St. John is notable for voicing Duke Nukem himself throughout the years. Will that lead to lines about ass-kicking and chewing bubblegum? One can certainly hope (read: No, it won’t).

Former Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms is back, in a way, with Bombshell. The isometric action title is in development at Interceptor Entertainment and QuakeCon saw some gameplay footage emerge. Check it out below.

Bombshell stars Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison, a mercenary with cybernetic enhancements, as she goes about killing your de facto alien army of the week. The footage is pretty straightforward in that it gives one a look at the various weapons – including the Ion Maiden, Maxigun and more – along with some of Bombshell’s abilities. There are a few RPG elements inherent like the ability upgrade one’s guns.

The game was actually announced back in 2014 but has seen a somewhat lengthy development process due to engine changes. Things appear to be on track for the time being though.

Bombshell will be out this Summer for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Stay tuned for more updates from QuakeCon in the coming days.

3D Realms, the people who brought us Duke Nukem 3D, along with Interceptor,  the creators of 2013’s Rise of the Triad, comes Bombshell, a new isometric action role playing game for the PC and the PlayStation 4. Bombshell sees bomb-disposal-specialist-turned-mercenary-for-hire, Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison, strong-arm her away across four planets in an Unreal Engine-powered galactic adventure to rescue the president of the United States of America from an apocalyptic alien threat. Bombshell promises imaginative enemy design as well as an array of weaponry that crosses genre boundaries and creates a hybrid experience such as one never seen before.

The trailer that you see above will show you many of the features of this upcoming game, including the dangerous, brave new world that the title is set in, its isometric gameplay layout, its storyline, and yes, the metallic arm that the protagonist Shelly wears.

Bombshell represents a new IP opportunity for 3D Realms, who are currently embroiled in a lawsuit over the use of the Duke Nukem brand.

“Lawsuits take time, and are often a long, drawn-out process. Meanwhile, we wanted to be productive — our creative team couldn’t wait around for the issue to be resolved,” their statement on the official website reads. “Ultimately, we saw it as the opportunity to create our own intellectual property, and Bombshell was born. So far, it’s been a blast.

“It’s impossible to say what will happen in regards to our previous project. It might return, it might not. We want to make great games without sacrificing our integrity, andBombshell allows us to do that beautifully.”
