If you own the Designer’s Cut or Season Pass 2 of Borderlands 3, then you’ve probably delved a bit into Arms Race. The battle royale-esque mode, which feels more like The Division’s Survival, sees players dropping into a zone, gathering loot and then battling AI combatants to extract. Gearbox is looking to spice things up further with different mini-events, the first starting today.

“Clear Skies” kicked off the first week yesterday and sees the storm taking longer to close in on players, thus providing more time to explore. Enemies have higher chances to drop rare loot as well, further incentivizing one’s exploration. Week 2 is “Extra Extra Extraction” starting on January 28th – this greatly increases the drop chance of DAHL chests, offering more chances to earn gear exclusive to the mode.

You’ll also find more slots in the extraction stations, letting you take more gear out of the mode. The third and final week is “Gear Rush” which starts on February 4th. It sees Rare chests appearing more while Green DAHL chests at specific points have a higher chance of containing mode-specific gear. The storm will travel at a quicker pace though so beware.

Borderlands 3 is currently available for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Google Stadia, Xbox Series X/S and PS5.

It’s a busy week for Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 3. Season Pass 2 is currently live, which adds the Designer’s Cut and Director’s Cut DLCs, while the looter shooter launches for Xbox Series X/S today. PS5 players can play it on November 12th. The next-gen versions of Borderlands 3 run in 4K/60 FPS for single-player and online co-op on Xbox Series X and PS5. Local split-screen support is also expanded to allow four players to co-op together while vertical split-screen is being added for two player co-op (and comes to current-gen versions as well). Current gen owners can avail of the upgrades for free.

As for Season Pass 2, its first DLC – the Designer’s Cut – is now available and adds four new Skill Trees, one for each Vault Hunter. It also brings Arms Race, a new PvE mode that sees players dropping into a map without weapons and abilities. Collecting different loot allows for combating the more serious threats and extracting lets you keep that loot. Beware though – dying means losing everything and starting over. The Director’s Cut DLC is out in 2021 so stay tuned for more details.

After promising it wouldn’t be a battle royale mode, Gearbox Software has finally showcased just what Borderlands 3’s upcoming Arms Race mode. Turns out it’s more like The Division’s Survival mode. Players drop in with nothing (not even any abilities), loot different items and have to fight for survival against enemies before extracting.

The key hook is that extracting allows you to keep whatever loot earned. Of course, dying means that all of that sweet loot is lost and you’ll have to start over. Overall, it’s an interesting twist on what The Division offered and should offer a nice replayable way to earn loot (though whether any new items will be added remains to be seen).

Borderlands 3’s Arms Race mode is out on November 10th. It’s included with the Designer’s Cut and purchased with Season Pass 2, which also includes new Skill Trees for each of the Vault Hunters. That’s only one part of the Season Pass though – more DLC is planned for next year so stay tuned.

Gearbox Software had promised new content for Borderlands 3 later this year but hadn’t committed to a new Season Pass. It’s since confirmed Season Pass 2 which contains the Designer’s Cut and Director’s Cut add-ons. The former is out on November 10th while the latter launches in Spring 2021.

While the Director’s Cut content has yet to be outlined, the Designer’s Cut includes a new Skill Tree for each Vault Hunter along with the new Arms Race mode. Details on both have yet to be revealed, which Gearbox is going to rectify starting on October 20th. It will host a stream at 9 AM PT showcasing the new Skill Trees for Amara and FL4K.

On October 22nd at the same time, it’s Moze and Zane that get the spotlight with their new Skill Trees. October 29th will see Arms Race revealed while October 30th will feature a live play-through of the mode. Season Pass 2 will also include new looks for each of the Vault Hunters, though it’s price is yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
