The official announcement for the PlayStation Plus games will soon be out either today or tomorrow. However, it seems that Sony has been a little late this time around. An image leaked from PlayStation Germany’s page which supposedly displays the games that will be coming in the month of November.

In the image below, you can see the games for the month of October such as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Amnesia Collection. However, in the text, you can read that Worms Battlegrounds and Bound are the games coming in November.

Worms Battlegrounds is a 2D tactical turn-based game that was released in 2014 while Bound is a game that features a dancer as the main character and features gorgeous visuals. However, the games for November do seem like a step down from the previous month’s excellent titles.

This is only a rumor so take it with a grain of salt, or you could just wait until Sony officially announces the line-up.

The Chinese Room, known for developing Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, is apparently working on a new game called Little Orpheus. This was revealed by Creative Europe which has a list of applicants who have successfully received grants. Little Orpheus was provided €72,339 and it’s apparently the name for the isometric RPG title that The Chinese Room calls Total Dark on its website.

If that weren’t enough, the list also revealed that 11 bit Studios (This War of Mine) and Plastic (Bound) have received grants for €150,000. 11 bit Studios is apparently working on a game called Dreamtime, which is interesting because it’s also developing the upcoming Frostpunk.

As for Plastic, it’s next game is called Diama though creative director Michal Staniszewski later told Eurogamer that this would “most probably” change. He also noted that it could change just Bound, which was “A completely different project when we started. A lot of things didn’t work, even if they were brilliant ‘on paper’. We will have to wait and see what the future will bring.”

It also seems like ELEX will be receiving a sequel, having been granted €150,000 despite the first game having yet to release.

A complete video walkthrough of Bound.

What is Bound? The latest game that Sony Santa Monica have pushed out was developed in conjunction with Plastic Studios, and is a surreal and psychedelic adventure set in the mind of a woman visiting her childhood in her memories. With its sharp, stark, highly stylized graphics that immediately arrest the player’s attention, and its engaging and unusual premise, this is a game that merits playing, in spite of all of its many flaws.

If you do decide to play it, however, you may find yourself unable to progress in the game at certain points for any reason- and if and when that happens, you may decide that you need help. There’s nothing wrong with that! And that’s what we’re here for. This video walkthrough for Bound, which you can watch for yourself below, will take you through the entire game, so you know exactly what you should be doing, and when you should be doing it. Just remember, though, it will end up spoiling the game for you, so be careful!

The benefits of emphasizing framerate over resolution.

There is something wonderful about most Nintendo games on the Wii U that tends to get overlooked in graphical discussions, owing to the Wii U’s other technical deficiencies- but in a generation where developers and publishers are increasingly pushing higher resolutions and fancier graphic effects, often at the expense of framerate and performance, Nintendo games on the Wii U almost always stay locked to a blistering 60 frames per second frame rate.

This, coupled with their gorgeous artstyle, and Nintendo’s general graphical minimalism, means that these games look and feel gorgeous in a way that simply cannot be understood unless one ends up playing them in person. And you don’t have to take just my word for it- at least one developer, and a developer of a PS4 exclusive game at that, has openly expressed admiration at Nintendo’s ‘smooth’ graphics on the Wii U.

“I bought a Nintendo Wii U about two and a half years ago and I was really really happy with that decision,”Michal Staniszewski, the developer of the PS4 exclusive indie game Bound, recently released in association with Sony Santa Monica, said in an interview with The Optional earlier this year. “It’s the only console I have at the home right now. I have a PS4 at the office, but I just play Nintendo at home, and I’m really really amazed that they are concentrating on releasing games in 60 frames per second in full HD with multi-sampling. They look gorgeous and completely smooth and I play them with my kid. I think that’s something we lost in this current console war between Xbox One and PS4, they were concentrated on making the graphics full of effects and not sharp. For example, have you played Uncharted 4?

“Uncharted has amazing graphics, jaws on the floor and so on. But if you spin the camera around you’ll see this blur in the camera, this is something that I really hate. [laughs] And this is mostly because if they wouldn’t do that then it would be jaggy movement and this would be much worse. But when you play Mario on Nintendo, it’s super fluid and no single frame dropped. So I said ok, we can sacrifice half of the visual effects because we are literally sacrificing half of the processing power that we have. There’s this quality that was lost and we should say that we don’t like it.”

Personally, I am inclined to agree with a lot of what he is saying, though I also think he is maybe exaggerating things a bit- Nintendo games do look gorgeous, and that does come down to their great framerate, and their excellent art. These are both things that was lost in the mad rush for the AAA market on the PS4 and Xbox One. So I definitely agree with him there.

That said, I also think this comes down to, in a way, the kind of game one is making- Nintendo games, and even Bound, go for highly stylized graphics, so they can get away with minimalism as far as the tech that they employ goes. On the other hand, when striving for realism in graphics, such as with Uncharted 4, your priorities are different- you want games to look as real as possible, which means you need to emphasize fancy graphical effects and resolution.

In the end, there is a place for both approaches to graphics in the industry.

August brings some much anticipated titles.

After what’s seemed like an eternity between big game releases, August will finally offer some highly anticipated video games. Though the real assault on our wallets begins from September onwards, there are a fair number of awesome indie titles, triple A games and at least one major expansion that players can look forward to in August.

No Man’s Sky

After many years of hype, Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky will finally be releasing. Billed as an open space adventure where players have the freedom to explore, fight and trade, No Man’s Sky boasts 18 quintillion planets to explore thanks to its procedural generation capabilities. Whether it lives up to the hype or not, there’s no denying that No Man’s Sky will quench our thirst for adventure on PS4 and PC come August 9th.

F1 2016

With a new career mode packed with ten seasons, F1 2016 promises its most immersive Formula One experience yet. Players will create their own character, earning contracts and joining teams to advance further up the ranks and become more successful. F1 2016 is out on August 19th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC – if highly realistic racing from Codemasters is your thing, this will be worth checking out.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Set a few years after Human Revolution, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided sees the return of Adam Jensen in a world fraught with even more danger. New abilities and on the fly weapon customization combined with even more player freedom for approaching missions should allow for one of the better FPS/RPG experiences since…well, since Human Revolution. Look out for it on August 23rd for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Grow Up

It’s amazing how one of the better titles to emerge from Ubisoft last year was also one of its most experimental. Grow Up is the sequel you didn’t know you wanted and will see the return of BUD as he explores a new planet while seeking to repair his ship. The game’s puzzle heavy approach returns as BUD uses new tools – like the Floradex 3000 – to take advantage of 24 different plant species and their abilities. Grow Up is out on August 16th and will be heading to the Xbox One (unlike its predecessor) along with PS4 and PC.

Abzû

From the director of Flower and Journey comes diving simulator Abzû. This isn’t your typical realistic swimmer though – Abzû features highly artistic visuals courtesy of Unreal Engine 4 and offers linear exploration in a mysterious sea. Interacting with fish, exploring underwater ruins and being one with the sea make Abzû one of the more peaceful titles to look out for on August 2nd for PS4 and PC.

The King of Fighters XIV

SNK’s premier fighting franchise returns once more with The King of Fighters XIV. Featuring 48 characters along with two boss characters, KOF XIV makes use of a new Max Mode for special EX moves and even implements the Garou‘s Just Defend feature. Online mode seems pretty simple at this point but that’s KOF for you. It’s out on August 23rd for PS4.

Verdun

Before Battlefield 1, there was Verdun. Having begun in open beta way back in June 2013, Verdun features realistic squad-based World War I gameplay for up to 32 players. Interestingly, Verdun sports some cool game modes like Rifle Deathmatch where players are all armed with rifles and Frontlines, a trench warfare assault mode where teams take turns attacking and defending. Available on PC already, Verdun hits PS4 and Xbox One on August 30th.

World of Warcraft: Legion

The Burning Legion returns and players must team up with the Demon Hunters to push them back in World of Warcraft’s Legion expansion. With a new class in the Demon Hunter, balance changes, Artifact weapons (with 36 unique weapons for each class), order halls, a new transmogrification system and of course, plenty of new areas to explore and quests to complete, Legion is just the fix for those disappointed with Warlords of Draenor.

Madden NFL 17

Say and think what you will about EA’s Madden franchise – the publisher clearly knows what it’s doing if it keeps raking in success. Madden NFL 17 will introduce some new features – as the sequels are wont to do – such as the new ball carrier UI, Path Assist, a revamped Franchise Mode and new announcers in the form of Brandon Gaudine and Charles Davis. Look out for it on August 23rd for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4.

Bound

Bizarre 3D platformer Bound caught our attention thanks to its vivid art style and expressive motion capture. Touted as one large puzzle that will appeal to those seeking a highly narrative experience, Bound will also include a fair amount of procedural generation. It arrives on August 16th exclusively for PS4.

Plastic’s Bound received a new trailer at E3 2016 for the PlayStation 4, showcasing the world that players will explore. Check it out below along with some new screenshots.

Bound is a 3D platformer that will see you exploring the world within the mind of a woman reliving her childhood, using dance moves to navigate the environment and unlocking the metaphor that underlines your character’s journey. Plastic is focusing on the narrative and delivering a mature story. However, Bound will also indulge hardcore gamers as they work together to solve what’s essentially one large puzzle of a game. The world is procedurally generated and will run at 60 Hz at 1080p resolution with high quality anti-aliasing.

Bound releases on August 16th for PlayStation 4. What are your thoughts on the gameplay and the game’s overall look? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more information as E3 2016 rolls on.

SCE Santa Monica had been teasing something rather odd for the past few days and ahead of the PlayStation Experience, it’s been revealed to be Bound. This PS4 title is developed in collaboration with developer Plastic and game director Michal Staniszewski explained some aspects of the game on the PS Blog while a trailer was shared.

Bound is essentially a 3D platformer but features a mature narrative. You play as a ballerina, who’s motion capture has been performed by dancer Maria Udod, and as Staniszewski explained, “On the other side of the spectrum, Bound is also being prepared for hardcore gamers looking for the challenge of one big puzzle that can be only solved by a community of players working together.

“We are going to deliver a ‘notgame’ to you, which is also a game. It’s up to you to decide how you would like to play.”

Bound will be in 60 FPS and 1080p resolution with the team having “spent more than a year on optimizations, just to deliver you a game that will squeeze the most of your PS4.” We’ll probably learn more at PlayStation Experience this weekend so stay tuned.
