Now the question is- what system will it be on?

Bravely Default is widely considered to be one of the best games in the Nintendo 3DS’s library, as well as one of the better showings from Square Enix and, indeed, the JRPG genre as a whole, in the last few years. And even while Bravely Second, the sequel to the original game, failed to live up to the high watermark set by the first, it was a reasonably fun and decent game.

One can therefore understand why fans may be excited or eager for a third game in the franchise. And in a recent tweet, the official Bravely Default account teased what may be a third Bravely game.

‘It’s Bravely‘s four-year anniversary! We apologize as news has been scant recently. There may be something soon….!?’ the tweet read (translation by Nintendo Life).

While a third Bravely game isn’t much of stretch – the first two games were very successful, after all – the question of which system they will be on remains. Will they be for Nintendo’s NX? Or will they be aiming for a trifecta on the Nintendo 3DS?

A bevy of smaller announcements made now, right on the eve of E3.

Nintendo held a Nintendo ‘Micro’ Direct for western territories today, without any advance notice or warning, and for such a low profile broadcast, they actually managed to make a fair few number of important announcements. These included more information on games that had been previously announced, such as Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon and Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, new game announcements, such as confirmation of Bravely Second coming to the west in 2016, confirmation of LBX for the 3DS launching in the west, and confirmation of Dr. Mario on 3DS launching in the west.

It included new news for games that have already launched, including Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition getting new content weekly starting today, and Splatoon getting a new map and new weapon, as well as Ranked Battle, starting today.

You can check out the full Nintendo Micro Direct for yourself above, via the embedded video. It looks like Nintendo is getting all the minor announcements out of the way now, ahead of E3, where they might be dropping some major new bombs. We’ll keep you posted on everything. Stay tuned.

At least let the second game release first...

Bravely Default is still one of the defining games of the 3DS, an original IP exclusive to it that was very well received critically and commercially, worldwide. It is already getting a sequel this year, Bravely Second, which launches in Japan soon. And now, according to the producer, a third game is also planned in the series, and ready to go, assuming the second game does well enough in sales.

“It might make you say ‘What?!’ given the timing, but I already have the concept for Bravely Third in me,” the producer said in the latest issue of Famitsu. “If sales for [Bravely Second] are good enough, I’m planning to immediately submit a proposal. Please give me your support!”

Bravely Second launches on Nintendo 3DS in Japan soon, with a release in the west not yet specified, but hopefully not too far behind. Bravely Default was a breakout success in the west, so bringing the sequel over makes sense.

Things escalating.

Bravely Default, the Square Enix JRPG for the Nintendo 3DS, that channeled old school JRPG goodness, and was a critical and commercial hit worldwide, is getting a sequel soon. It’s called Bravely Second, and while we have seen a lot of it, we still haven’t understood exactly how the game plans on following up the story of the first title.

Any uncertainty regarding that should be quickly quelled when you watch this video, however. It’s the intro movie of the game, and it seems to set the stage for the rest of the story to follow pretty damn quickly. It also seems to epitomize the phrase ‘that escalated quickly.’

That apart, Bravely Second is looking gorgeous, and given the response the first game had in the west (it sold more outside of Japan than it did in Japan), let’s hope that it will have a shorter localization period, and we can all play it on our 3DS systems in English soon.

Spoilers for the first game inside.

A new scan for Bravely Second, the eagerly anticipated sequel to last year’s hit Nintendo 3DS exclusive JRPG Bravely Default, has confirmed that Tiz Arrior will indeed be returning in the second game. Tiz, of course, was the protagonist of the first game, so his return promises some tantalizing possibilities for the story of the game, and its relationship to the first game.

The design has definitely been updated- he seems to be a whole lot more self assured and confident now, and he almost seems to have outgrown his humble farm boy beginnings from Bravely Default. The scan seems to indicate that Tiz needs to be rescued, which means that the ending of Bravely Default is in fact a part of the plot of Bravely Second, and not just a teaser or a feeder video.

Bravely Second is due out on the Nintendo 3DS some time this year; a western release is widely anticipated to follow as well. Given the massive worldwide success that Bravely Default enjoyed, it is expected that the localization of the second game will not take as long as the localization of the first game did.

One can only hope.

Bravely Second is the sequel to one of the Nintendo 3DS’s best games; it is due out in Japan early next year, and hopefully, owing to the massive success enjoyed by Bravely Default (most of which came from the overseas markets), it won’t take too long before it is released everywhere else as well.

Yesterday, we showed you thirty minutes of gameplay footage from Bravely Second, courtesy of the brand new demo that Square Enix just released on the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS in Japan; now, we can also show you a brand new trailer for the game, which looks absolutely awesome. The Bravely series stands as one of the most loving homages to classic old school JRPGs that we have had in a while, and Bravely Second looks set to capitalize on that by enhancing everything that Bravely Default did well, and addressing everything that it did not.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage.

Bravely Second is the sequel to Square Enix’s amazing Nintendo 3DS exclusive JRPG hit, Bravely Default (that finally released in North America earlier this year). It’s due out in Japan early next year, and ahead of that release, Square Enix have gone ahead and released a demo for it, the same as they did with Bravely Default.

That’s very good for us (even if the demo hasn’t actually been released in the west yet), because that means we get to see the game in action as someone has taken the liberty of recording over thirty minutes of in game footage from the demo.

And yes, it looks great and amazing, and if you liked Bravely Default, it looks like you will like this game as well. The only issue is whether or not the developers will learn from the panning that the game’s horrid second half received, and if they will try to fix on that issue in this game. Let’s hope they do.

Now what in the world could this be?

Square Enix has just filed a brand new trademark for a video game in Europe– the trademark has been filed for something called ‘Brave Exvius,’ which of course sparks all sorts of potential possibilities as to what this could be.

The most obvious answer could be that this is somehow related to the Bravely series- we got Bravely Default in the west earlier this year (nearly two years after its Japanese release), and Japan is due to get Bravely Second some time next year. Brave Exvius could simply be a renamed-for-the-west Bravely Second (and certainly, this wouldn’t be unprecedented for the series: Bravely Default’s name in Japan was Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, and the subtitle was dropped for the west). It could be a spin off for mobile phones, it could be a brand new game in the series, it could be something else entirely.

As of right now, we don’t know. But when we do, we’ll tell you. Stay tuned.

Introducing Yuu, Jean, and Nikolai.

Bravely Second, the sequel to the 3DS exclusive JRPG that released in North America earlier this year, in Europe and Australia late last year, and Japan years ago, has been announced and it looks pretty damn awesome. And if you were hoping to see more of the sequel to the game that made everyone, including Square Enix, think that there might actually be a market for traditional JRPGs after all, well then you are in luck, as we have a brand new trailer that highlights the ‘three musketeers.’

This includes the protagonist Yuu, who bands together with Jean and Nikolai, and this new trailer shows the trio on their adventures, in action. Honestly, it looks pretty good so far, and if they actually get a proper budget to develop the game the full way through, instead of basically having to copy and paste the first half of the game to the second half, which was the original game’s greatest failing.

Bravely Second launches in Japan sometime this Winter; no release date for the west has yet been announced, but after how successful the first game was outside of Japan, it’s not much of a stretch to assume that it’ll be swiftly following.

Second time's the bravest.

Bravely Default, when it released earlier this year exclusively for the 3DS, was a hell of a game. A very great game, in fact, that also met with the success that it deserved at retail. We already knew Square Enix were busy working on a sequel, called Bravely Second, and now we get to have our first look at some screenshots from the game and some concept art, which in general show us that Bravely Second will be more of the same- which, when ‘the same’ was something as good as Bravely Default, is pretty damn okay and acceptable.

It also shows us- I guess this is a minor spoiler?- that Agnés will also be returning in the sequel (that’s the girl in those pictures), which I suppose shouldn’t be much of a surprise either way.

Bravely Second is due to launch exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. We have no idea when it is due to launch, although given the first game’s success in the west (more copies sold in the west than in Japan), we can at least be reasonably hopeful that the localization turnover period won’t be as long this time as it was for the first game.
