Still a rumour.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified didn’t set the charts on fire as you would expect a Call of Duty game to, but it did sell decently enough in the US as it was bundled along with the PlayStation Vita. It looks like Sony and Activision will be releasing another game for the Vita as someone has spotted a listing for the game.

The game is called Call of Duty 2013 (probably a placeholder name) and was spotted here. This doesn’t mean that would be its official name though and it most likely looks like a sequel to Declassified.

Take this with a pinch of salt obviously as the game if real would be developed by Nihilistic Software again, and their games usually aren’t that good. I may be harsh here but their work speaks for themselves.

Activision planning for next-gen.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 hasn’t been announced yet but Activision showed a cool video at GDC showing the facial rendering in the game. They had earlier released images of this tech demo, but now we have a video of it although it’s an off screen one.

It’s really impressive and shows how much details the model has. It’s not clear if the tech will be in the latest Call of Duty game, presumably Modern Warfare 4.

This video was shown at GDC probably behind closed doors but a German channel has leaked it. The video is 20 minutes long and shows some of the tech which could be possible in the future. They did not say it will be in any game, but it’s nice to see Activision experimenting with such things.

A new image has been spotted of Modern Warfare 2’s ghost. Slight spoilers: If you have played the campaign then you know he dies, so how did he come back? Of course this is a rumour for now but this screen looks legit but you should take it with a pinch of salt.

This could have been an April Fools joke, but are Infinity Ward hinting at something? It would be interesting if Ghost does come back in their next game but based on what we saw in the last game, that probably won’t happen, but crazier things have happened before.

We don’t know what Captain Price is doing in that image as well and he appears to be a lot older and he could very well appear in the next Call of Duty game.

A rumour for now.

Infinity Ward has revealed a new image of Captain Price on their official Facebook page. This is a bit weird because Activision has never announced a Call of Duty this way so take this with a pinch of salt, but it looks like the next Call of Duty will have Captain Price.

The game will be developed by Infinity Ward because Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was developed by Treyarch, so this sounds plausible.

You can check out the image below (via DSOgaming).

There were other rumours like Call of Duty: Ghosts being the name of the next Call of Duty game. When you consider how the previous Modern Warfare games were revealed, also how Kotaku got their hands on tons of information about Modern Warfare 3, this type of revealed stands out due to being odd.

There was a teaser trailer that was leaked earlier as well which you can check out below. Take it with a grain of salt.

Activision knows where the money is.

So Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is set to receive microtransactions and you know how much EA loves them. It looks like Activision is going to be following the same model in the future Call of Duty games as well.

The personalizations that are set to hit Black Ops 2 will cost money and in a way the company could be preparing people for barrage of microtransactions.

EA has done it with Dead Space 3 and has called its detractors “vocal minority”, and has also mentioned that the future is Freemium. So why wouldn’t Activision try to get more money from gamers?

Michael Pachter also said that the company was not monetizing Call of Duty properly and compared it to World of Warcraft where players pay $180 per year.

“[Activision] trained gamers that you can buy a game and play it all year, ten hours a week, forever, and you never have to pay again,” Pachter said. “The World of Warcraft guys are paying $180 a year, and the Call of Duty guys are paying $60. So who’s got a better model?” he asked. (via Wired)

This is a clear indication that the company is trying it out with Black Ops 2 and if successful you know what will happen right? There’s a lot of money to be made from gamers especially dedicated ones who normally play shooting games.

They also talk about new IPs.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has talked a bit on how they plan to develop Call of Duty games as well as their investment level in new IPs, and how they are managing major franchises.

There’s a new Call of Duty game expected to be released this year, probably made by Infinity Ward and called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, but that isn’t confirmed yet so who knows.

Hirshberg revealed that they give their developers a lot of creative freedom: “Our developer community represents our largest employee population at Activision, so I don’t really see the distinction when you say how much has Activision been involved,” he told Digital Trends.

“We certainly have a great track record of giving our developers tremendous amounts of creative freedom to make the games they want to make.”

He also talked a bit about new IPs and how successful sales of major franchises gives them a lot of room to invest in new properties.

“Activision is a very rigorous company and puts a lot of analysis and thought into the things that we venture into,” he revealed.

“Our strategy is to be very focused on doing a few things exceptionally well. We make those choices very carefully. That said, when you have the kind of successes that we’ve had with some of the other franchises it does free up your ability to invest behind something new that you really believe in.”

Could be named Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

In a shocking bit of news, Activision has confirmed that a new Call of Duty game is in development, and will be released this year. Well, you probably knew this was happening anyway since they have two teams who alternate each year with their version of the game.

Since 2012’s version was done by Treyarch, we guess it’s now Infinity Ward’s turn to show what they can do. However, we don’t have any idea about the platforms Activision is targeting since Sony and Microsoft’s consoles are rumoured to hit the market this year.

Could it be a cross gen title? It’s hard to say, but they wouldn’t want to risk putting the game on the new consoles with next to nothing install base, while there is a 100 million install base on the PS3 and Xbox 360 that can get them a lot of sales.

Under key priorities for 2013, Activision had mentioned Call of Duty 2013. You can check out the image below.

The publisher is also planning to invest in new IPs, new platforms, new partners and new business models. The game should be announced after a few months, before E3.
