Over Abraham Lincoln’s eyes, however, is a logo of a three-headed dog/wolf. Changing to channel 2 reveals what may be the same group plastering flyers with “The Truth Lies” all over a town.

Rumors over the next Call of Duty, allegedly Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War from Treyarch, have circulated for some time now. With the project reportedly codenamed Cerberus, the three-headed hound of the Underworld in Greek mythology (which the logo on the website resembles), it’s easy to connect the dots.

That’s as per The Verge’s Tom Warren, who claims in a recently published report that this year’s Xbox Games Showcase will happen on June 9, which is a Sunday. As per Warren, Microsoft will announce Gears 6 at the showcase, in addition to this year’s Call of Duty instalment.

The next instalment in the Gears of War franchise has been in the rumour mill for some time now, with recent reports claiming that it’ll be announced sometime this Summer. Meanwhile, leaks have claimed that this year’s Call of Duty game, titled Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, will depict the titular conflict and feature a fully open world campaign.

Warren says previously announced first-party titles will also receive updates at the Xbox Games Showcase, including the likes of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Avowed, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, all of which are officially due out this year.

However, that doesn’t mean Call of Duty is coming to the service immediately. Spencer also stated that “back-end work” is happening to bring Activision Blizzard titles to “PC and console simultaneously.”

This year’s Call of Duty is rumored to be Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War and reportedly features a fully open-world campaign. However, it hasn’t been officially announced. During a reported virtual town hall meeting, Spencer allegedly said it was safe to assume it would launch in October, perhaps indicating that he wasn’t 100 percent sure.

We’ll likely find out in the coming months, but whether it’s the next instalment or previous titles, the wait for Call of Duty on Game Pass continues. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.

Spencer reportedly confirmed “future hardware” for Xbox, but Bond also discussed its strategy for the brand existing on multiple devices, stating, “Every screen is an Xbox.” Based on this multi-device approach, this may be the same meeting where Spencer assured employees that Microsoft had no plans to stop making Xbox consoles.

As for the next Call of Duty, it’s been rumored since 2022 and is reportedly a follow-up to Treyarch’s Black Ops series set during the Gulf War. The story reportedly focuses on the CIA while attempting to explore “a nuanced narrative” of the conflict, while the game allegedly adopts a fully open world structure. As per Henderson, Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War is set to feature a fully open world campaign. Though last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 did dabble with open world design to some extent with what were known as its Open World Missions and an open world Zombies mode, Henderson claims Black Ops Gulf War’s open world campaign has been built from the ground-up from the game rather than using previous instalments’ assets. The campaign is allegedly being handled by Raven Software (who also led Black Ops Cold War’s campaign), while Treyarch handles multiplayer and Zombies.

The campaign will reportedly see players and their accompanying squad traversing an open world map similar to the Far Cry games. Players will allegedly be able to navigate the map using vehicles (something that would presumably take cues from Warzone), while a fast travel system will also be included. Additionally, it’s been claimed that despite its open world structure, the campaign will include linear missions as well, though how many of them you can expect remains to be seen. CIA agent Russel Addler, who had a key role in Black Ops Cold War’s campaign, will also supposedly return.

Interestingly, Henderson goes on to claim that Black Ops Gulf War’s open world campaign isn’t meant to be an isolated experiment, but rather a sign of things to come for the franchise. He claims that Call of Duty 2025 – which is allegedly set to be a direct sequel to Black Ops 2 set in 2030 – is also currently being planned as an open world campaign, though with the game supposedly still in the early stages of development, things aren’t quite set in stone yet. Either way, as per Henderson, Activision is looking to switch to an open world format primarily to “streamline development”.

In a report published by Windows Central, it’s been claimed that next year’s Call of Duty game will be a sixth Black Ops instalment with Treyarch returning as lead developer. Reportedly codenamed Cerberus, the game could seemingly be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, something that Insider Gaming corroborates as well.

The game will reportedly focus on the CIA and “examine the United States’ role in the conflict”, as well as its consequences in the end of the Cold War era. As per the report, it will “attempt to explore a nuanced narrative of the Gulf War” and cover the many different participants who were involved in the conflict, while on the gameplay front, it will return to more traditional military technology and gadgets, as you would expect from its setting.

Windows Central also states that Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War (or whatever it ends up being called) is set to have the longest development cycle for a Treyarch-developed Call of Duty title, while Charlie Intel also reports on Twitter that it will be the first game in the series to have a four-year development cycle. Given recent reports of Modern Warfare 3’s rushed and contracted development timeline, that can only be good news.

Finally, as per the report, Activision is considering more significant pre-order bonuses for next year’s game, possibly including early access for multiple modes that will become available weeks ahead of the game’s release.

Strafford’s Facebook post, which has since been deleted, implies that he is a part of the cast for the 2024 Call of Duty game, which would be developed by Treyarch.

While Treyarch is working on next year’s title, the next Call of Duty game to be released will be the yet-to-be-officially-announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 developed by Sledgehammer Games. Activision seems to be gearing up to unveil the game, as reports from earlier in the month indicate that the title was being shown off to NBA stars behind closed doors.

Last year’s game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, recently got its first bit of mid-season DLC for the current season, bringing characters from The Boys to the game’s regular multiplayer game modes, as well as to Call of Duty: Warzone 2.

As per the report, documents emerging from Activision data breaches include mentions of Call of Duty 2024 also coming to last-gen consoles. Though plans may have internally changed since then, the report claims there’s a possibility that the shooter ends up launching for PS4 and Xbox One as well, even though we’ll be roughly four years into the current console generation by the time the game launches. The report notes that with all Call of Duty games now running on the same engine, cross-gen releases would be easier for developers to handle.

Microsoft recently also confirmed that should its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard go through, it will also be bringing Call of Duty games to Nintendo platforms. It remains to be seen what form that will take, but one would assume that 2024’s instalment will be part of those plans.

Of course, this leaked information isn’t necessarily set in stone, and as mentioned previously, the references found in the leak could possibly be outdated. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more details on the matter, so stay tuned for further updates.

The news comes from The Ghost of Hope on Twitter, who recently reported on a paid map pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 coming in late 2023 (which will also apparently includes campaign DLC). They said, “Treyarch have had their budgets approved for a 2 year lifecycle on their next installment as part of Activision | Blizzard’s 3 year budget cycle.” Activision is reportedly “hedging their bets” on Modern Warfare 2 performing well financially, along with the infrastructure of COD 2.0 (based on the new unified Call of Duty engine).

As such, there’s been plenty of reports and rumors on Call of Duty’s future. Sledgehammer Games is reportedly working on a new title that will release in 2025. It was initially reported to be a sequel to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, but that’s apparently not the case. At this point, it’s hard to say what the studio’s next Call of Duty title could be.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 goes live on November 16th.
