Though only a handful, the critical reception has been overwhelmingly negative.

The Fall of Duty? Not quite, since this is a Playstation Vita title, but that doesn’t excuse NStigate Games (formerly Nihilistic Software, that also developed the underwhelming Resistance: Burning Skies for the handheld), on their bungling of Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified.

The game currently has 4 reviews and holds a shocking Metacritic score of 29 out of 100, which means “generally unfavourable” reviews.

Game Informer stated that the game is an “absolute mess” and “appalling”, scoring it 30 out of 100. “In dramatic fashion, it completely fails to live up to the high bar of quality gamers expect from the Call of Duty name. It’s also a discouraging sign for gamers like me who shelled out $250 for a Vita in the hopes of console-quality experiences on handheld.” The game’s single player campaign is also only an hour long, according to GI.

GiantBomb went even lower, scoring the game 20 out of 100. “A disjointed mess of meaningless missions played against a clock backed up with a multiplayer mode that occasionally approximates something that resembled proper Call of Duty combat. More often, though, the game feels too small to be entertaining, with maps so tiny that you’ll literally spawn with an enemy in your crosshairs… or vice versa. This would be a questionable purchase at traditional downloadable pricing. But at $50? No way.”

And honestly, this is only the beginning. The final score could wind up dropping much lower. Let’s see how the sales are, since terrible quality hasn’t stopped titles like Resident Evil 6 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter from doing good business.

Declassified indeed.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified gets a release date and it’s something that is completely bewildering to me. The game comes out on the same day as its bigger sibling on November 13. Now this is a very grave situation if you’ve been following the PS Vita and its struggles.

Black Ops Declassified is the game that is supposed to make the Vita sales pick up and considering the release date I highly doubt the sales will be anywhere close to being decent.

The game is developed by Nihilistic Software which is the same studio that also worked on Resistance: Burning Skies and a bunch of other games that bombed. However, this game does look promising when you consider the multiplayer package being offered.

The single player will contain Spec Ops like missions which is neat but will players respond to it like they do for the CoD campaign?

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

Unexpected? Not really.

Black Ops: Declassified on the PS Vita was something that was that was supposed to save the system from doldrums–and it still might! It won’t feature a vital mode which could be the turning point for people interested in the game.

That’s right, Nihilistic Software’s Call of Duty for Vita won’t have a zombies mode. Now you might say, what’s the big deal in this. Oh but its, you see it is launching on the same month as the console versions and costs $50 to boot.

Activision’s community manager, Dan Amrich, confirmed this on his blog.

This is the first Call of Duty game on Vita, and it needs to deliver on its core strengths — arguably, multiplayer gaming with twin-stick controls in a portable format. That’s the core experience, and that simply needs to come first. There’s always a list of things you want to do and things you need to do, and at the end of the day, realistic goals are the ones that people actually attain.

Declassified will offer a Hostiles Mode, which challenges you to defeat waves of enemies, but alas, those enemies are not shambling corpses. So we’ll see what the future brings for Zombies, but for Declassified, it’s an MP focus first and foremost.

Ouch.

Sony’s press conference at this year’s E3 was lacking one vital thing – PS Vita games. They managed to show a logo for Call of Duty: Declassified and a nifty little trailer for Assassin’s Creed: Liberation, but we never got to see how those games actually look like when running on the system.

SCE CEO Andrew House has said that they will show more about these games “when the time is right”. Earlier Shuhei Yoshida, Sony WWS president, had said that they had a lot of Vita games on the show floor, but couldn’t show them at the conference due to lack of time, and both these executives have come up with an excuse which involves “time”.

I hope they know that time is actually running out for this amazing system as far as third-party support and market penetration is concerned.

“Well, we’ll show them when the time is right,” House told CVG. “But I think we gave a good sense of what those games are going to be, particularly in the case of Assassin’s Creed. You can be assured that, whether it’s first-party or third-party, there’s a good raft of content in the works there.”

However, he did say some things that can be taken positively. “So if we were remiss on not spending enough time on the PS Vita, I’ll take that one under advisement, but you can rest assured it’s not for the want of any sense of overall commitment,” he said.

“We know that killer games are going to be what sells this device. I think there are other aspects to the proposition that we can build in there, which will be attractive.”

It seems that Vita’s Call of Duty game, Black Ops: Declassified has a developer that no one knows yet. Even Treyarch, the creator of Black Ops 2, which is scheduled to be releasing this November for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Treyarch’s Director of Communications John Rafacz told VideoGamer that, he had no idea who the developer was. “I don’t know,” he said bluntly. “With regards to the Vita, all I can tell you is that it’s quite literally declassified.”

He doesn’t know if Neversoft is developing the game or not. “When I know, I’ll tell you,” he added.

This is a sad state of affairs with not a single footage of the game shown at E3 and we basically have no details about the game except some official blurb stating it has Spec Ops and no single-player campaign.

Finally, the Vita is starting to get games.

Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation for the PS Vita. Featuring a female assassin, along with unique touch screen controls, support for Near, and set in the time of the French Indian War. The game looks awesome, and will support cross play with Assassin’s Creed III on the PS3. To celebrate the occasion, Sony will be launching a PS Vita bundle with the first ever crystal white PS Vita, a copy of the game, and a 4GB Memory Card as well.

The game will come out October 30. It’s “built from the ground up to take advantage of the Vita’s capabilities and powers” and will feature full touch controls. A trailer is given above.

On the other hand, Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified was also confirmed. No screenshots, videos, or any sorts of details were given, other than the fact that it’ll be “a fully functional shooter”.

As soon as we have more info on these games, we’ll put it up. Stay tuned.
