Yesterday, we got the shadow drop of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered (though we’d had leaks weeks before that) on the PS4. It’s been much anticipated ever since the first game was remastered back in 2016. It, however, was only the campaign and none of the multiplayer. While people were glad to have the game back in any capacity, there are some who wondered why they decided to axe that considering the multiplayer aspect of COD has always been huge. Well, the reason is pretty simple.

Activision posted on their official blog about the lack of multiplayer. The reason for them not remastering the multiplayer section is to not split the multiplayer base any feature between the already currently available titles. The Modern Warfare reboot as well as Warzone are both already up and share a certain base. Adding another game would only serve to split the community. They also point to already remastering maps from the previous Modern Warfare trilogy already, meaning it would be redundant in some ways to have them in another separate title.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is available now on PlayStation 4 and will come to Xbox One and PC on April 30th.

Ever since Activision remastered the very first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in conjunction with Infinite Warfare, people have been patiently waiting for the remaster of the much beloved sequel. Many assumed it would come the next year, but three different Call of Duty titles came and went with not a peep of a remaster. Well, rumors and hints have been swirling for a good while now that the game will finally happen, and it could be way sooner than you expect.

According to VGC, they have heard from sources that the game will release as early as this week, maybe even coming as a shadow drop for PSN’s Tuesday update. They say it will only feature the campaign, and will have some type of tie-in with the latest game, a reboot of the Modern Warfare subset of the franchise, though it’s not clear what that means.

It’ll be nice to finally have this, especially since MW2‘s campaign is a lot of people’s favorite. Fingers crossed this rumor ends up being true, and with even the third game allegedly getting a remaster down the road, we can complete the whole Modern Warfare set.

Even though Activision have made no such announcement yet, it’s looking extremely likely that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will be arriving sooner rather than later. After already having been the subject of a couple of rumours and leaks in the past few weeks, before then having been handed an age rating by the South Koreans ratings board, even more irrefutable evidence of its existence has now emerged.

Via datamining of the latest files of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare after its latest update (via Reddit), key art for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered has been spotted (take a look below). And in line with previous reports, the key art makes it clear that this remaster is only going to cover the 2009 game’s single player campaign (at least for now).

Meanwhile, the folks over at Charlie Intel have also found a description for the release in the game’s files, and it seems like there’s multiple ways to go about purchasing it. It reads, “Purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered and receive the Underwater Demo Team Classic Ghost Bundle OR Purchase the Ghost Pack: Oil Rig Bundle to receive Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.”

Activision have said in the past that they have multiple remasters in development, so this would very much fall in line with that. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on any new info that comes our way.

Ever since Activision released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered in 2016, talk of a similar remaster for its direct sequel, Modern Warfare 2, has been a dime a dozen, and it’s seeming like it’s going to materialize in something tangible soon. The Game Rating and Administration Committee (or GRAC) – the South Korean ratings board for video games – has handed an age rating to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.

There have been conflicting reports about whether or not this remaster – which hasn’t even been officially announced yet – will have a multiplayer component the way Modern Warfare 1’s remaster did. While earlier reports suggested it wouldn’t, another report earlier this month stated to the contrary. If it does indeed have a multiplayer component, it might come as a separate package, or post-launch content- or maybe it just won’t have multiplayer at all, which would be disappointing, considering that that was, after all, the original game’s defining feature.

There have been plenty of leaks about a Modern Warfare 2 remaster of late. Other than the recent report mentioned above, another leak regarding various Activision games in development also made mention of the title. Activision, too, have previously said that they have several remastered games in development.

It’s a busy, busy time for the Call of Duty franchise. Activision’s post-launch support for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is trudging along, while Call of Duty: Mobile continues to perform strongly as well. More notably, they recently confirmed that the long-rumoured free to play battle royale title, Call of Duty: Warzone, will be releasing in full tomorrow. And, of course, a full-fledged new entry in the series is also due out at the end of the year.

But reportedly, that’s not all we’re going to see from the franchise in the coming months. Recently, prominent Call of Duty leaker Okami took to Twitter to claim that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered 2 will be releasing this year. Similar reports have emerged before as well, but while those claimed that the game wouldn’t have a multiplayer component, Okami says it will. In a separate tweet, they also say we’ll be hearing about the game “sooner than people think.”

In 2016, Activision and Infinity Ward released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered (which did have multiplayer) as part of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, before also releasing it as a standalone title the following year.

Activision have, in recent months, said on multiple occasions that more remasters and reimagined titles are in development, and will be coming soon.
