Check out a short new trailer that highlights one of the levels from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's campaign, titled Tower.

Publisher Activision and developer Infinity Ward have released a short new trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t really involve any new announcements or reveals. Instead, it offers a glimpse at the Tower level from the upcoming game’s campaign mode, and prominently mentions the words “Campaign Early Access”.

According to the trailer, the campaign early access will kick off one week before the game’s release. However, it does state that the early access period might be affected by possible outages and time zone differences.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has kicked off digital pre-orders. The game is set for release on October 28, which puts its early access period for the campaign at October 20.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set to take place three years after the formation of Task Force 141. The game will feature the elite unit taking on a terrorist organization as well as the Las Almas drug cartel.

Even though Activision have made no such announcement yet, it’s looking extremely likely that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will be arriving sooner rather than later. After already having been the subject of a couple of rumours and leaks in the past few weeks, before then having been handed an age rating by the South Koreans ratings board, even more irrefutable evidence of its existence has now emerged.

Via datamining of the latest files of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare after its latest update (via Reddit), key art for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered has been spotted (take a look below). And in line with previous reports, the key art makes it clear that this remaster is only going to cover the 2009 game’s single player campaign (at least for now).

Meanwhile, the folks over at Charlie Intel have also found a description for the release in the game’s files, and it seems like there’s multiple ways to go about purchasing it. It reads, “Purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered and receive the Underwater Demo Team Classic Ghost Bundle OR Purchase the Ghost Pack: Oil Rig Bundle to receive Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.”

Activision have said in the past that they have multiple remasters in development, so this would very much fall in line with that. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated on any new info that comes our way.

Fighting the fight... for the wrong reasons.

Video games have a tendency to turn the tables on their audiences for some truly surprising twists and turns, and often, these take the form of reveals that the character we’d been playing as all along and thought was the good guy had inadvertently been doing the wrong things all along. In this feature, we’ll be taking a look at games that did exactly that.

Do note that there will be spoilers ahead for every game we speak about, so if we begin talking about a game you don’t want spoiled, skip ahead to the next entry.

METAL GEAR SOLID 2

We all love a good conspiracy theory, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty threw the mother of conspiracy theories at us when it revealed to us the true nature of the Illuminati-like Patriots. What was even more of a gut-punch, though, was the realization that Raiden had inadvertently been functioning like a pawn for them all along, with the reveal that the entire Big Shell Incident was orchestrated by the Patriots just as a means to facilitate the S3 Plan and mould Raiden into their very own Solid Snake replica.

Just WHY would you remaster Modern Warfare 2, but skip the multiplayer?

We’ve had rumors abound regarding a remaster for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (arguably representing the zenith of popularity for the franchise) for well over a year now—after all, Modern Warfare itself was remastered alongside Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, so can’t the same happen for its follow up?

Well, it seems like it might be happening after all, and that, as rumors suggested all along, it will be just the campaign, and not the multiplayer (the part that was actually popular, holy crap Activision what in the world is this). In Europe, PEGI, the ratings board for video games, has rated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. The interesting thing here is that the rating is exclusively for the campaign, of course, as the listing’s name suggests.

Whether this means that the multiplayer will be sold separately, or that, for some perverse reason, there is no multiplayer, remains to be seen. I guess we’ll get an official announcement of this happening soon either way. Meanwhile, the first Modern Warfare Remastered is available for free for PS Plus subscribers in March.

One of the most popular games in the series is now playable on Xbox One.

Microsoft has announced that Activision and Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the game with which the franchise reached the peak of its popularity, is now playable on Xbox One, thanks to the backward compatibility initiative. To commemorate the occasion, the game will also be on sale for this week.

Modern Warfare 2 was the last game in the series that Infinity Ward developed prior to series creators and studio founders Vince Zampella and Jason West breaking apart from Activision, citing non payment of royalties, and forming Respawn Entertainment. They would go on to create the Titanfall games, while Infinity Ward would make Modern Warfare 3, before moving on to other Call of Duty games.

The original Modern Warfare got a remaster in 2016, followed by a standalone release in 2017; Modern Warfare 2, in spite of several rumors earlier this year, has yet to get one. For now, if you want to play through Modern Warfare 2 again, the Xbox 360 version via Xbox One remains your best bet (on current gen consoles, that is).

It's time to face the truth, no matter how bitter it may be.

Gamers are human. We’re not meant to be perfect or in full control of our emotions so getting overtly angry, sad or happy with a game is a given. However, there may come a time (or two) where we just can’t help but lie, even if it’s to ourselves. Here are 15 lies that gamers tell themselves.

“This Mechanic is Bullsh*t!”

We’ve all failed that one sneaking portion in Hitman or screwed up a riposte in Dark Souls. It’s natural to get frustrated over these things but once you roll out “This game’s mechanics are bullsh*t!”, you’re just making excuses. Maybe the mechanics don’t work for you. Maybe you don’t know how to use them in a particular situation or maybe you keep repeating a certain a mistake. And hey, maybe you’re just bad and need to improve. It happens to all of us.

This is not what we had in mind...

The long anticipated and speculated upon Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Trilogy collection is a reality, it seems, and it will indeed be releasing, according to US retailer Best Buy– but in what might be the most anti climactic, Monkey’s Paw-esque twist to wish fulfillment of all time, it will be releasing only on Xbox 360 and PS3, as a collection of all Modern Warfare games in one budget priced re-release. As opposed to, you know, a remastering of the full trilogy, so that it can be played on the current generation consoles.

The collection will also come with the Stimulus Pack DLC for Modern Warfare 2, and will cost only $30. Essentially, for those of you who have somehow not yet played Call of Duty, this collection is the best introduction to the series you could have… except for the bit where it won’t run on current generation consoles, that is.

If you are a current generation owner, and want to relive the glory of Modern Warfare, the good news is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, which is a remastering of the first game in the trilogy, will be made available later this year for Xbox One and PS4… only if you first spend $80 on buying the Legacy Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, that is.

Monkey’s Paw, indeed.

Here we go again.

Despite middling critical scores, Call of Duty: Ghosts is a rousing success with more than $1 billion in revenue from day one sales. It’s just a shame that the game continues to be hammered on, and not for entirely unjustified reasons. Take this particular clip from the ending sequence of Ghosts, which sort of reminds us of a particular sequence from Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. And by “sort of”, we mean it’s an exact replica of the same. Check it out above.

While we’ve seen film-makers reuse the same sequences in movies – just do a quick search on Michael Bay’s shenanigans – but for a video game? Even if single-player has been heavily de-emphasized in this era of multiplayer gaming, it feels like a cop-out. One that no matter which resolution you’re playing in is noticeable and outright deplorable.

But who knows, maybe the PS4/Xbox One release of Ghosts will fix that? Here’s hoping. Keep in mind that the hidden ending you can unlock from beating Ghosts on Veteran adds more to the above.

We already know that MW3 is set to have a globe-trotting campaign on a whole different level to MW2 so, even though the environments comparison is intriguing, we know MW3 will have much more to offer in that department as it nears release. The other shots that focus on various weapon comparisons show off a new level of lighting realism in MW3. In comparison to number two, the guns in MW3 all reflect the stages lighting in far more realistic and visually pleasing ways. As if you needed any more reasons to get excited about the next Call of Duty.
