Starting next month, PS3 and PlayStation Vita titles will no longer be offered for free.

Free PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita titles are being retired from Sony’s PlayStation Plus service after this month. However, March promises two big PS4 titles for subscribers – Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and Thekla, Inc’s The Witness. It’s only two games, but they’re certainly worth the price of admission.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is, as the name suggests, a remaster of Infinity Ward’s classic 2007 first person shooter. With revamped graphics, old-school multiplayer, and the same crazy campaign, it’s certainly worth revisiting. As for The Witness, it’s a first person puzzle adventure game designed by Jonathan Blow of Braid fame. The player walks around a mysterious abandoned island, solving puzzles for some higher purpose.

February’s PlayStation Plus titles, including Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Divekick, will be available to download until March 8th. Any PS3 and PS Vita games downloaded in the past will still remain in your library as long as you have PlayStation Plus access.

Apparently out one month later on Xbox One.

Remember when we all thought that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered would receive a standalone release at some point or another? Retailer GameFly lent fuel to those rumours when it listed a standalone version of the game for release on June 20th. That was earlier this year.

It’s now Amazon Japan that has a listing for the game and the release date is June 20th on PlayStation 4 (screen-caps via CharlieIntel). The Xbox One version is listed to arrive on July 20th which would make sense given the agreement between Sony and Activision. Is it a coincidence that both dates are pretty much the same? The PC version has not been listed as of yet.

As it stands, this should be treated as a rumour. We wouldn’t put it past Activision to announce a standalone release during Sony’s E3 presser, if only to promote the one month exclusivity that PS4 players could get.

Currently, it’s possible to play Modern Warfare Remastered on all current gen platforms by purchasing the Legacy Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered has received its latest map pack on PC and Xbox One with the Variety Map Pack. It previously released on PlayStation 4 in March.

The Variety Map Pack is essentially the same as the pack from 2008. It has four maps – Broadcast, Chinatown, Creek and Killhouse – with updated visuals to put them in line with the Remastered game. Though the Map Pack costs $15, it also comes with 10 Rare Supply Drops which are worth $20 in value. These contain cosmetics and other items that can also be unlocked through gameplay.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is out now for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It’s received its fair share of free updates that have added new items, cosmetics and other unlockables.

What are your thoughts on the game thus far especially the multiplayer aspect? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned for more information on future updates.

Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered has received some more DLC in the form of the Variety Map Pack for PS4. The pack contains four remastered maps of varying sizes. Check out the launch trailer below.

The Variety Map Pack includes Chinatown, full of alleyways and neon lighting; Broadcast, an abandoned station that’s narrow inside and open outside; Creek, a ravine that’s perfect for snipers; and Killhouse, a training warehouse that encourages close quarters combat. The pack also comes with 10 Rare Supply Drops which are worth $20. All of this can be yours for $14.99.

Despite much hype heading into its release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered isn’t exactly enjoying the most active player base on Steam. Compared to 6,075 peak players in November 2016, the game’s multiplayer recorded 988 peak players in the last 30 days according to Steam Charts. Regardless this is only for PC and it’s likely that consoles would have a more active player base.

Activision is getting into the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day with an event for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. The Shamrock and Awe event began yesterday and will end on April 3rd, 12:01 AM PT/3:01 AM ET.

Every player will receive a free Supply Drop for each week of the event though they don’t stack. So make sure to login each week to get them. A new map has also been added in the form of Daybreak, a twist on the map Downpour. Daybreak is full of leprechauns, rainbows and other positive imagery so make of that what you will.

Completing challenges will give you Shamrock and Awe-themed camos which include shamrocks and rainbows. You can also earn reticles, calling cards, emblems and even a shillelagh as a melee weapon.

Finally, there’s a new character that can be unlocked – Darren “Graves” Cosgrave – upon completing the “Luck”, “Leprechaun” and “Pot o’ Gold” collections. Keep in mind that he won’t be unlockable once the event is over.

Joining the festive spirit, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered has received its own Winter update today. This adds the final six maps to the game’s multiplayer experience, bringing Bloc, Countdown, Pipeline, Showdown, Strike and Wet Work to players.

The base game launched with only 10 of the original maps but this now brings the total to the original 16. Winter Crash, which was exclusive to PC in the original release, will also be added on December 20th with a 24/7 playlist.

If that weren’t enough, Gun Game and Hardpoint have been added to the game’s playlists. Two weapon camos, obtainable by completing challenges in Winter Crash, will also be available. Players can also look forward personalization items as part of the Operation Arctic Wolf loot drops which bring different calling cards, weapon camos and uniforms and so on. Finally, female soldiers can also be chosen, something which was missing in the original game.

50 GB minimum space required.

Raven Software’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is a significant face-lift for the classic first person shooter and while publisher Activision hasn’t confirmed the recommended specifications for the PC version, it did release the minimum required specs.

Along with Windows 7 64-bit and upwards, you’ll need an Intel Core i3-530 clocked at 2.93 GHz or an AMD Phenom II X4 810 at 2.80 GHz, 6 GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 1GB or ATI Radeon HD 7850 1GB. Hard disk space required is 55 GB but more will be required for future updates and DLC like the free maps coming in December.

So far, the break-up seems to be Modern Warfare Remastered at 55 GB and Infinite Warfare at 70 GB. Even if that’s the minimum required space at launch, you’ll still need roughly 125 GB of space for the Legacy Edition when both games arrive on November 4th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Will you pick up Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition this Friday? Let us know below.
