The Blast Furnace worked hard to bring forth a quality experience, according to lead designer John Dennis.

Yesterday, Activision released Call of Duty: Strike Team for iOS, which featured a mesh of third person shooting, first person shooting and a top-down perspective that reminded us of the FOB missions from Black Ops 2. However, lead designer John Dennis assures us that it’s not a “lazy port”. “It’s not some sort of lazy port, you know – ‘here’s some stuff we found lying around and we made a mobile game of it.’ This has been a very hard-working team working for a long time to try and deliver a quality experience.”

He revealed to Kotaku that Strike Team has been in the development for a year by The Blast Furnace, which is led by former Rockstar London member Mark Washbrook. “Quite a lot of the guys in the studio worked at Rockstar, and in that environment everything you work on is top secret. There’s an absolute code of combat that you do not speak about your title outside of the office.

“The thing of value to us is that this is a thing you pour all of your time, your love and your and energy into, and you don’t want to see that go out prematurely.”

Have you tried Strike Steam yet? Do you immediately regret it? Let us know below.

A mesh of top down, first person and third person shooting in store.

The number of high profile titles on iOS continues. After XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Deus Ex: The Fall and Prince of Persia The Shadow and The Flame, it’s now the turn Call of Duty: Strike Team which has just launched on iOS. It currently is available for £4.99 and offers an interesting mix of top-down, third person shooting and first-person shooting. Check out the screenshots below, which indicates something similar to FOB Spectre missions from Black Ops 2.

Strike Team features many of the tropes of Call of Duty, including the ability to customize the load-outs for your squads and a survival mode wherein you take down several waves of enemies. There’s also a campaign mode, and despite being set in the year 2020, it seems fundamentally different from Black Ops 2’s story.

The question is: Is it any fun, especially considering the lacklustre handheld titles in the Call of Duty series till now? Will it sell a lot? We’ll find out soon.
