It's the end of a rather brief era, as the mobile battle royale title is being removed and will no longer be playable after just two years.

After its delisting from both Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store in May last year, Activision has finally announced the closure of Call of Duty: Mobile Warzone, with its servers going offline on April 17, 2026.

It’s been a good two years for the title that aimed to bring the Call of Duty experience to its players’ smartphones, but it was only a matter of time before the curtain came down on the game. Despite its Android version drawing users’ ire due to various issues, the game has managed its fair share of praise. However, it seemingly didn’t gather enough traction for Activision to justify creating more content for it, which brings us to now.

In a statement, Activision showed appreciation for the developers behind the experience and its players alike, whilst assuring its community that seasonal content is still being made for Call of Duty: Mobile.

“The servers for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will go offline on April 17, 2026, after which the game will no longer be available for play. Until that time, players may continue to access the game and engage with existing content…Player passion and feedback continue to shape the future of the Call of Duty franchise, and we look forward to delivering meaningful seasonal content and updates to Call of Duty: Mobile.”

If you’ve been a fan of Warzone Mobile, now is a good time to get your pals together and enjoy the next two months of the game before it’s gone forever. Or you could switch over to Call of Duty: Mobile – surely that won’t kick the bucket anytime soon, right? It’s your call at the moment, but the clock is ticking until April.

The free-to-play title is getting delisted from Google Play and Apple's App Store, but servers will remain online for now.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, launched in March 2024 for iOS and Android, will no longer receive new content. The official Twitter account has confirmed that the title didn’t meet expectations and will be delisted from the Google Play and Apple App Stores.

Its social features will also be retired, but those who install it before May 19th can still play with servers remaining online. Even cross-progression remains available. Unfortunately, there won’t be any new seasons or updates to the gameplay. Call of Duty Points and Black Cell also won’t be available to purchase. If you have any left, they’re still redeemable in the in-game store.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile’s woes began almost immediately after launch, as it reportedly earned $1.4 million in its first four days. Call of Duty Mobile earned $4.2 million in the same period when it launched in 2019, translating to a 67 percent drop for the new title.

Since its launch in October 2019, the free-to-play mobile first-person shooter has been downloaded over a billion times, Activision has announced.

Established gaming franchises don’t always enjoy success with their attempts to capture a slice of the mobile gaming market, but one series that unequivocally has seen massive success on that front is Call of Duty, with Call of Duty: Mobile in particular continuing to attract players in sizeable numbers.

Taking to Twitter, Activision announced that since its launch a little over five years ago in October 2019, Call of Duty: Mobile has been downloaded by players over a billion times, an impressive number by any metric. The game has, of course, always been a huge success for Activision, so its continued success doesn’t necessarily come as a massive surprise.

Activision has also stressed on numerous occasions that it doesn’t intend to stop supporting Call of Duty: Mobile anytime soon, so it’s safe to say that we’ll likely see the game’s player numbers continuing to climb for some time to come.

On the other hand, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile hasn’t been quite as successful, with launch revenue significantly down from Call of Duty: Mobile’s performance back in 2019, as per reports earlier this year. Read more on that through here.

The mobile battle royale offshoot reportedly generated $1.4 million in its first four days, compared to Call of Duty Mobile's $4.2 million.

Call of Duty Mobile has been a massive money-maker for Activision (and now, by extension, Microsoft) since its launch in 2019, following which it’s been no surprise to see the company attempting to further expand the shooter franchise’s presence in the mobile gaming space. Recently, that entailed the global launch of Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, though the free-to-play battle royale title has seemingly not got off to quite as impressive of a start as the series’ mobile debut did.

As reported by PocketGamer.biz, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is estimated to have earned $1.4 million in revenue in its first four days after its global release on March 21 ($1.6 million when counting revenue generated on March 20, when it became available ahead of time in some regions). That’s a third of what Call of Duty Mobile managed in its first four days in 2019, earning $4.2 million.

Warzone Mobile did, of course, receive a soft launch back in December 2022, following which it has seen limited availability in some regions. Since then, to date, the game has generated $2.2 million in revenue, 47 percent of which ($1.1 million) has come through players in the United States.

It is, of course, still early days, and given the value Activision and Microsoft place on the mobile gaming space, it’s likely that we’ll continue to see the companies pushing Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile hard in the weeks and months to come. At least for now, however, it doesn’t look like the game has managed to quite replicate the success of the series’ first mobile outing.

Alongside the new release window, Activision has also revealed that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will feature the popular Verdansk map.

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is getting delayed to Spring 2024. Originally thought to have been slated for a November release, the game has seen a limited release in some countries so far, including Australia, Chile, Norway and Sweden.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is currently still available for pre-registration on Google Play and the App Store, and according to Activision, over 45 million players have already pre-registered for the game.

The company has further confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will feature the Verdansk map, which has been specially built for the mobile release of the game and its 120-player battle royale mode. Activision has stated that teams across its Shanghai Studio, Beenox, Digital Legends and Solid State Studios are continuing work on the game while taking player feed back into account.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is slated to be an all-encompassing Call of Duty experience for smartphones, and according to previous reports, will phase out Call of Duty Mobile once it launches in all countries worldwide.

Announced last year, the mobile battle royale shooter seems to have been delayed into November, based on its updated App Store page.

Activision has seen massive success with Call of Duty on mobile, and it has seen massive success with Call of Duty in the battle royale space, so it always made sense that the company would eventually attempt to blend the two. Last year, it formally unveiled Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, and it’s been previously confirmed that it’s set to launch in full sometime in 2023. And while it is still expected to hit this year, it seems like it’ll be arriving a little later than anticipated.

As spotted by CharlieINTEL on Twitter, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile’s page on the App Store was recently updated, with the release date being moved from May 15 to November 1.

In a statement to GameSpot, Activision has suggested that the new release date mentioned on the page is a placeholder, but the company didn’t confirm a launch date or window for the battle royale shooter, mentioning only that it will launch sometime later this year.

“Until confirmed, most online stores simply list placeholder or estimated launch dates,” an Activision representative said. “We couldn’t be more excited about bringing Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile to gamers around the world and while we are still in our Limited Release phase, development is on track and we expect to release globally later this year.”

Earlier this year, Microsoft – which is currently working to have its proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard approved by regulatory authorities around the world – said that Call of Duty Mobile was expected to be phased out and eventually replaced by Warzone Mobile. However, Activision said in a follow-up statement not long afterward that it intended to support Call of Duty Mobile “for the long haul.”

Meanwhile, where console experiences are concerned, it’s been claimed that this year’s Call of Duty instalment – which is reportedly set to be a Modern Warfare 2 follow-up developed by Sledgehammer Games – will be revealed in August.

This follows a recent statement by Microsoft that the mobile shooter is "expected to be phased out over time" following the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile.

It would be a bit of an understatement to say that Call of Duty Mobile has been a massive success for Activision, with the shooter having amassed a massive audience and driven sizeable revenues for the company on a consistent basis for its launch. Recently, however, Microsoft, which is currently in the process of having its acquisition of Activision Blizzard approved by regulatory authorities, said that it expected the mobile shooter to be “phased out over time” following the launch of Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile and be replaced by the battle royale title.

While that may have sparked some fears over the longevity of Call of Duty Mobile, Activision has since come out with a statement to allay concerns, saying that it intends to support the game “for the long haul” with “a robust roadmap of fresh new content, activities, and updates.”

“We are committed to Call of Duty Mobile as an important part of the entire Call of Duty franchise and our overall mobile strategy,” Activision wrote in its statement.

Of course, whether those plans will end up changing if/when the company does get acquired by Microsoft remains to be seen, but it seems like the internal plan at this moment is very much to keep Call of Duty Mobile going, even once Warzone Mobile has launched.

Microsoft announced this as part of its response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority’s investigation into its acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

“CoD: Mobile was developed and is owned by TiMi Studios, a subsidiary of Tencent,” said Microsoft in its statement (via VGC).

While the replacement is planned, Microsoft states that it will be gradual. “CoD: Mobile is expected to be phased out over time (outside of China) with the launch of Warzone Mobile,” the company stated.

In response to the UK CMA stating that Microsoft might need to sell off the Call of Duty franchise for its acquisition to go through, Microsoft also stated that doing so would have a negative impact on competition, preventing Microsoft from competing against Apple and Google.

“A divestment would have severe adverse effects on the development of competition because it would prevent Microsoft from achieving its key strategic objective, namely building a mobile gaming business with sufficient scale in order to challenge Google and Apple,” said Microsoft.

The company has also stated that divesting any part of Activision Blizzard after its acquisition would have a negative impact, revealing that it needs Call of Duty Mobile, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, as well as Blizzard’s Diablo Immortal to compete in the mobile market.

“These are among the most relevant mobile games published by Activision,” said Microsoft. “It is these games, particularly Warzone Mobile and Diablo Immortal (rather than the King games), which would provide Microsoft with the assets, know-how and talent to develop mobile versions of its own console games.”

The mobile battle royale will be at the Call of Duty: Next showcase, along with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0.

Activision has released a new teaser for Call of Duty: Warzone on mobile. There’s not much glean, aside from a cargo plane that’s undoubtedly carrying players to drop into the map. But don’t worry – additional details are coming on September 15th, 9:30 AM PT at the Call of Duty: Next showcase.

Officially confirmed in March via a recruitment ad, Call of Duty: Warzone on mobile was touted as a “large-scale, multiplayer experience is being built natively for mobile with cutting-edge technology.” Developers include Digital Legends, Beenox, Demonware, Solid State Studios, Activision Shanghai, and Activision Central Tech. In May, it was revealed to be in closed alpha under the name Project Aurora, with various gameplay clips leaking from the same in June.

No official release window has been announced, so stay tuned next week for more information. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is also in development and scheduled to release this year (with leaks pointing to November 16th). Running on the unified Call of Duty engine alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it will offer a new play space and RICOCHET Anti-Cheat. Stay tuned for more details on the same at the Next showcase.

Details, images, and concept art on the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Treyarch's 2024 instalment have emerged from a recent leak.

New details on a couple of upcoming Call of Duty games seem to have emerged courtesy of a massive new leak. Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile has had closed alpha tests over the last couple of months (which also led to leaked gameplay clips for the in-development title), and dataminers have managed to dig around in the alpha files to discover details, images, and concept art not only for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but also the next game in the series, which is allegedly in development at Treyarch and is expected to launch in 2024.

As compiled over on Reddit, the leak mentions multiple weapons that will be included in Modern Warfare 2 when it launches later this year, including multiple different kinds of assault rifles, submachine guns, pistols, sniper rifles, and more, while it also seems like swimming will be a new mechanic in multiplayer, which aligns with previous leaks. Also mentioned are perks, killstreaks, field upgrades, and more.

Crucially, several maps in the game have also been leaked. Interestingly, one of these maps is set on a grand prix course and will also have day/night modes include a museum, an oil field, and several maps for the Ground War mode.

The rumoured PvPvE mode DMZ is also part of the leak, and seems to confirm that it will indeed be set on the same map as the one being used in the upcoming Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. That, too has been mentioned in multiple leaks in the past. Meanwhile, speaking of Warzone 2.0, the previously-leaked interrogations mechanic also seems to have been confirmed in this leak.

Where the 2024 Call of Duty game is concerned – which may or may not be the next instalment in Treyarch’s Black Ops line of games – in additions to names of weapons in the game, concept art for two of the maps has also leaked, named Stealth and Pillage.

Of course, as is the case with any unverified leak, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt, but seeing as it’s come from Activision itself in this case, there’s a certain credibility here.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, meanwhile, will be out on October 28 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
