Likely thanks to the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, Sega might be looking to bring Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Catherine to the world of live-action shows and movies.

We could be on the verge of seeing a Persona 5 live-action adaptation in the near future. According to IGN, Sega has expressed interest in expanding into film and TV by adapting Atlus-developed games.

Atlus is primarily known for its JRPGs, with franchises like Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, and even Catherine. Persona and Catherine both place a heavy emphasis on the interactions between characters alongside their gameplay, and end up being quite story heavy.

Sega’s optimism about live-action adaptations for Atlus games likely comes because of the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies.

“Atlus’ worlds are filled with high drama, cutting-edge style and compelling characters,” said lead producer on the Sonic the Hedgehog movies and Sonic Prime TV series Toru Nakahara to IGN. “Stories like those from the Persona franchise really resonate with our fans and we see an opportunity to expand the lore like no one has seen — or played — before.”

“Together, Sega and Atlus, are working to bring these stories and worlds to life through new mediums and for new audiences.”

The company is yet to make any formal announcement for these plans. It is worth noting that Persona 4 and 5 have gotten anime adaptations, and Persona 3 was adapted into a series of animated movies.

There are a lot of strange games out there, but they don’t quite get as strange as Catherine. The game is all about a man on the verge of marriage who finds himself in a love triangle, all while he has dreams of being a sheepman. And the game is a puzzled-based affair where you must climb a tower in increasingly difficult stages (also, did I mention a supernatural succubus is part of this love triangle?). The Full Body re-release adds new story, lots of extra options, and it looks like we’ll be getting a portable version.

Atlus released a Q&A and trailer for the game, confirming that it will come out on July 7th. The game will release with all the DLC from the previous PS4 and Vita releases, as well as three new alternate VAs from actresses from the Persona titles, and the ability to play multiplayer on a single Switch with two joycons and local wireless multiplayer if you have two Switch consoles. The Vita version was never released outside Japan, so this will also make this the first portable version of the game internationally.

Catherine: Full Body is available now for PlayStation 4, with the Switch version coming July 7th. A demo is said to be coming soon for the Switch.

The puzzler and the strategy title could be headed to Nintendo's hybrid.

The Switch could be in line to receive even more ports of beloved third party titles. As mentioned by GameXplain in a video, Catherine: Full Body and XCOM 2 Collection might be headed to the hybrid machine soon. This is as per age listings that have popped up for the game on the South Korean ratings board.

A potential Switch port of Catherine: Full Body – the expanded re-release of Atlus’ bizarre puzzle adventure title – has been mentioned in Atlus’ yearly surveys several times, including the most recent one as well. XCOM 2 Collection, meanwhile, would be bringing the full base game, its War for the Chosen expansion, and multiple DLC packs to the Switch- if this should prove to be accurate.

Both games would make a lot of sense on the Switch (most games do), and it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to imagine these two ports happening. Either way, this is unconfirmed right now, so treat it as such.

Not too long ago, a listing for the BioShock Collection on Switch also popped up in Taiwan. Read more on that through here.

The puzzler's demo finally goes worldwide.

Catherine released all the way back in 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It was a game that has, in many ways, never really been replicated in its style and tone that saw an almost Murakami-esque mixture of mundane life with supernatural forces. It’s back now for the enhanced re-release, Catherine: Full Body, which everyone can now check out.

The demo and full game have been available in Japan for quite some time. Now that demo is finally live on a bigger scale as North America and Europe can download it. You can revisit the game to see what you think if you’re returning, or if you’re curious you can see what it’s about. The demo is only available for PS4, however, as the Vita version will not make it across the sea.

Catherine: Full Body will release on PlayStation 4 September 3rd. You can check out a trailer highlighting the English dub and hear some familiar voices in the meantime.

A lot of high profile names are returning to voice their characters.

Catherine, the unusual puzzle game about infidelity and sheep people, released originally in 2011. It was one of Atlus’ largest worldwide successes at the time and has crafted a strong following based on its unique setting and dealing with sexual themes, something unheard of in games at the time (and still rare now). The remaster, Catherine: Full Body, is on the verge of its worldwide release, and a new trailer shows off the English dub, including some big names returning.

You can see from the trailer below that Full Body retains the same frantic tone, while a lot of the voice actors from the original title are returning. Troy Baker and Laura Bailey have both seen soaring careers since Catherine, so it’s good to see them come back even for a relatively smaller title like this one. The trailer also shows off some gameplay, which involves you moving blocks against the clock to reach the top of a tower. Full Body will include new cinematics, story branches, puzzles, and difficulty modes, including a puzzle-free mode for those who just want to enjoy the story.

It’s worth mentioning that the game has come under some controversy due to what some see as problematic treatment of transgender characters in its store (it released earlier in the year in Japan). We won’t get into the weeds on that here, but whether or not this is something the localization team(s) plan to address in some way, or release the game, warts and all, so to speak, has not been talked about.

Catherine: Full Body releases worldwide September 3 exclusively for PlayStation 4 (a PlayStation Vita version released in Japan, but that will not see a worldwide release). The original version of the game, which launched on the PS3 and Xbox 360, was also recently re-released on PC as Catherine Classic.

Atlus stokes the fires of speculation.

The rumors of Atlus games, such as Persona 5, coming to Switch have been relentless in recent times. With games like Catherine making the jump over to PC, it’s been a general expectation that it’s only a matter before their other games will make it over to non-PlayStation platforms too.

Atlus themselves seem to be stoking the fires of expectation, with a new survey that they have put out (which you can see for yourself here), which inquires, among other things, about possible ports and/or remakes of Catherine, Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, Etrian Odyssey, Trauma Team, and multiple other franchises and IP from them, on Nintendo Switch, PC, and even Xbox One (apart from PS4 for IP like Shin Megami Tensei, which are traditionally Nintendo-exclusive).

The survey also asks about potential re-releases, DLC, sequels, remasters, merchandise, purchasing habits, and more. If you live in the United States, you will also be eligible for a sweepstakes if you complete this survey.

For now, Persona 5 is available on PS3 and PS4; Catherine Full Body will launch for PS4 later this year. Shin Megami Tensei 5 is announced as a Switch exclusive.

Just as the most recent weekly sales charts for UK were dominated by the slew of recent AAA releases, so too are the latest charts for video game software sales in Japan, released by Media Create, for the week ending February 17. Jump Force, Bandai Namco’s shonen jump crossover fighting game, debuted strongly, taking the top spot with nearly 77,000 units sold. Catherine: Full Body was another new release, coming in at second place with almost 52,000 in sales.

Far Cry New Dawn and Metro Exodus also debuted in the top 10 for the week, with the Ubisoft game selling over 26,000 units for a fifth place finish, and 4A Games’ post-apocalypse shooter taking the seventh spot with over 17,000 units sold. Kingdom Hearts 3 and Resident Evil 2 are both still in the top 10, at sixth and tenth positions respectively (selling over 19,000 and 11,000 units).

Other recent mainstays of the charts such as New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee! also continued to chart, while evergreen titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Party, and Splatoon 2 continued to exhibit strong legs as well.

On the hardware side of things, the scenery remains mostly unchanged from last week. The Nintendo Switch was once again the highest selling console of the week with sales of over 65,000 units. Meanwhile, the PS4 collectively sold roughly 20,000 units as well (base model and PS4 Pro sales combined).

And the best part is, it will feature Troy Baker and Laura Bailey reprising their roles too.

Atlus had previously already confirmed that Catherine: Full Body, the expanded remake for the puzzle platformer game on Xbox 360 and PS3 (which recently got a release on PC as well) will be coming to the west. Now, we know exactly when. Today, Atlus confirmed that Catherine: Full Body will launch in the west on September 3.

The game features more puzzles (500, which is more than double that in the original game), expanded new story content, including the mysterious amnesiac Rin, who presents a third romance option for players, and also sees Laura Bailey and Troy Baker reprise their respective roles as Catherine/Katherine and Vincent. This is a pleasant surprise, because Atlus had been replacing them with other voice actors in localizations for their former roles (especially with Rise and Kanji in Persona 4).

We also get a brand new trailer, as well as a collector’s edition for the game, both of which you can see for yourself below.

You can cut past the puzzles, and get to the true meat of the game, which is its unusual story.

Catherine: Full Body, the upcoming remaster of Atlus and P-Studio’s puzzle game, features a whole lot of new content and features. However, arguably the most important of these will be the game’s feature that lets players skip the puzzle stages (or have them auto-play).

According to Atlus (translated by Gematsu), players can either choose to skip any stage on Safety Mode, or have the stages autoplay (on Safety and Easy modes). For players who just want the story and choice making scenes of Catherine, without getting too bogged down on a particularly nasty puzzle, such a feature would be a amazing. Especially given how the story of the game tackles themes and topics that few, if any, other game even begins to approach, it’s good to see Atlus is allowing for players to approach that uninhibited.

Catherine: Full Body is set to launch next month in Japan, and later this year in the rest of the world. While in Japan, the game will come out for PS4 and PS Vita, in the west, Atlus has confirmed that the title will be skipping a Vita release.

It seems like in 2019, Vita no longer means life.

There’s a whole lot of Catherine news today. We learned that the game is now available on PC in the guise of Catherine Classic, which brings the original game to PC players for the very first time. But what about Catherine: Full Body, the enhanced release that was announced for PS4 and PS Vita a while ago?

Atlus today confirmed that the game will be coming to the west, but only on the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation Vita release has been cut. Given that Sony confirmed last year that they will be cutting production of Vita cartridges outside of Japan, I won’t blame Atlus for this, but this still stings, since playing a game like Catherine portably would have been absolutely fantastic (and we don’t have a currently announced Switch release for the game either).

As for when the game will be out, we still don’t have a release date for the west (it’s due out next month in Japan, and Japanese users also get the Vita version).
