Regarding the lack of a PlayStation version, Cellar Door Games said it's a "small team," but "we're always working on things."

With Cellar Door Games’ Rogue Legacy 2 celebrating its first anniversary next month, the developer is prepping one last free update for players. It adds new Special Modes, though what those could be is unknown.

Of course, there’s also the question of whether the acclaimed rogue-lite Metroidvania will ever come to PlayStation. Though Cellar Door didn’t confirm whether PS4 and PS5 versions were in development, it said “we’re always working on things.” Since it’s a small team, fans may need to wait longer for further updates, but never say never.

Rogue Legacy 2 is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch. The story sees players venturing into a fallen kingdom with unique biomes. Players can choose different classes like Ranger, Dragoon and even Chef.

As you die and your descendants step up to the plate, they have unique quirks that would drastically affect play styles, like colorblindness, a permanent spotlight, and more. For more details, check out our review.

An engine overhaul, changes to biome generation and Biome Burdens in New Game Plus, a Skill Tree reset option, and more wait.

Following its surprise release on Nintendo Switch yesterday, Cellar Door Games’ Rogue Legacy 2 has also received a massive new update. Patch v.1.1.0, aka The Fabled Heroes Update, includes a complete overhaul of the engine to improve performance, and numerous new weapons, spells, and Relics. New Fabled Weapons include Stygian Sharpshooters and the Lich King/Queen from Rogue Legacy 1.

The Biome Burdens in New Game Plus have also been rehauled, providing new choices and challenges for players. The biome generation has seen lots of changes to ensure more rewards and some additional power for those who fully clear areas. Even the red portals benefit from the increased rewards, offering a gold chest, Health tree, and Relic room, though their challenge has been increased.

The option to reset your Skill Tree has been added to House Rules for those who want to spec into something else. In addition to native versions being in development for Mac and Linux, the game is also fully playable in Japanese.

Check out some of the patch notes below and the full notes here. Rogue Legacy 2 is also available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. You can read our official review here.

Rogue Legacy 2 – v1.1.0 – The Fabled Heroes Update

PATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Weapons, Spells, and Relics Galore – Tons of new Weapons and Spells are coming down the pipe for you to add to your repertoire. From big community requests like the Lich King’s Crow Staff, to more eclectic weapons like a haunted Umbrella, the latest update has a ton of neat new items to show off. We’re also making the experience even wilder with new Relics that really take the cake. We hope you’re as big a fan of these new additions as we are!

NG+, and Fixing the Flow – Tons of gameplay changes have been made based on community feedback. We’ve rehauled the Biome Burdens to give players more control in how they tweak the NG+ experience, while also adding a ton of new choices to really customize each adventure. If you haven’t stepped into NG+ before, now is a great time, and if you’re a vet, there’s a whole new set of challenges that await you.

A Braver, Newer World – We’ve gone over biome generation to make every area more rewarding and let players creep more power if they invest in full clears.

More Risk/More Reward – We’ve also made massive changes to red portals to make the decision-making more dynamic. Their difficulty has been bumped up, but their rewards have significantly increased as well. On top of the gold chest, clearing these bad boys will now net you a Health tree and a Relic room to boot.

Play Your Way – Even more options have been added to the House Rules, to allow for the most curated experience ever. We’re also including the oft-requested option to reset your Skill Tree if you ever feel your money was not well spent.

Engine Rehaul – Considering how important movement is to a player’s success in Rogue Legacy 2, better performance was always a major goal of ours. We’ve finally had the opportunity to strike this off the bucket list, and a single note in the Patch Highlights doesn’t do justice to how much work was actually put into improving the experience. No part of the game was left untouched, with many of the fundamental systems completely rebuilt. Of course, this meant potentially breaking much of what wasn’t broken before, and while we’ve done our best to ensure the experience remains unchanged (other than making things run a lot smoother), we suspect a few bugs may have slipped through.

Even More for the Masses – Now that RL2 has been released on the Nintendo Switch, we’re working on native versions for Mac and Linux that we hope to have ready soon. And as a sweet cherry on top, the game has been fully translated in Japanese!

CLASS ADDITIONS/CHANGES

New Fabled Weapons

Stygian Sharpshooters. Find the best angles, and bring the pain to your foes with the power of ricochets. Hope you didn’t skip math class!

Lich King/Queens. The fan favourite from Rogue Legacy 1 returns. Wield the power of the almighty Crow Storm staff and turn your foes into bird food – magic bird food!

Brigands. Switch sides and arm yourself with the powerful blunderbuss and send foes flying with this shotgun-like weapon. Just be careful of the recoil.

Demon Tamers. Let the monsters fight for you! Partner up with the umbrella shaped Kasa-Obake and Mary Poppins your way to victory.

Eventide Spymasters. Poison your foes as you strike from the shadows with these new weapons borne from the teeth of a certain dragon.

Class Health (Buff)

Making the early game a little easier, without affecting late game.

Raised Grace HP from 100 to 150 (All classes). Grace HP is special health that is not affected by modifiers of any kind, including Class Passives.

Barbarian (Tweak)

Tuning the brutes to be a touch less binary.

Axe Attack (Buff): +5% STR scaling on aerial spin attack (high tic rate, means small increases lead to big gains).

Axe Attack (Nerf): -10% STR scaling on Ground strikes.

Dragon Lancer (Buff)

Some DPS tweaks to make sure the Dragon Lancer have an easier time with Estuaries, and a big QoL buff to Bastion.

Backblast Attack (Buff): Increased STR scaling from 180% to 200%.

Charge Attack (Buff): Increased additive INT scaling from 150% to 160%.

Charge Attack (Buff): Decreased charge rate SLIGHTLY (a slight grace for people with perfect timing).

Bastion (Buff): Now generates a shield at the front and a shield at the back.

The acclaimed rogue-lite Metroidvania is available on the Nintendo eShop for $25. It previously launched for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Cellar Door Games’ acclaimed rogue-lite Metroidvania title Rogue Legacy 2 is out now for Nintendo Switch. It was shadow-dropped during the recent Indie World Showcase and is currently available on the Nintendo eShop for $25. Check out the launch trailer below.

Much like its predecessor, Rogue Legacy 2 sees players exploring a massive castle, tackling bosses and upgrading their estate to earn permanent bonuses. When a character dies, you’re given a choice of descendants to carry on the legacy. The twist is that they have various quirks, from color blindness to fragility (meaning they’ll die on a single hit). The riskier options present bonus modifiers to gold earned, which helps in progression.

In addition to several new classes, Rogue Legacy 2 allows the mixing of different class-specific items and abilities. You’ll also encounter build-specific situations in biomes, Relics which alter your play style, House Rules for adjusting the difficulty and accessibility, and multiple New Game Plus runs.

For more details, check out our review here. Rogue Legacy 2 is also available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Cellar Door Games' eagerly awaited rogue-lite follow-up is even more addictive than the original, and easily it's best yet.

There have been dozens of rogue-lites over the years, and even some that tried to combine both genres for a smorgasbord of exploratory mirth and punishing death. Randomly generated rooms, special abilities that could open up new areas (along with making previous areas easier to explore) and immense resource gathering, all for tiny bits of progression. Of course, of the many titles that attempted this formula, few have been as successful as Cellar Door Games’ Rogue Legacy.

Released in 2013 and focused on fighting through a cursed castle with an increasing number of heirs, it was a near-perfect combination of platforming, puzzle-solving, combat and rogue-lite progression. In that sense, Rogue Legacy 2 is Rogue Legacy at its core. If you enjoyed the first game and craved more, then you’ll more than likely love the sequel. But it does a lot more than just add some new areas, bosses and stories, slap a “2” on the end and call it a day (that too after almost two years in early access).

"For as intriguing as the overall story can be, Rogue Legacy 2 is about the rogue and legacy aspects first and foremost."

Rogue Legacy 2 expands on the original, taking the same approach in spirit and filling it with all kinds of new ideas. More intensive platforming; responsive combat that’s easy to get into but nuanced as more classes and skills are thrown into the mix; and above all else, a degree of freshness to every run, whether it’s in new challenges to overcome or new Heirs to play as. And just when you think everything has been figured out, there’s a new twist or system that can turn things upside down.

As you infiltrate a kingdom that’s mysteriously fallen to ruin, bits and pieces of events past are made clear through various journal entries. You learn of a rebellion incited by two individuals identified as Z and J, along with the Estuaries who served leadership roles in the kingdom and fell in their own ways. The bread-crumb trail of revelations, from the Shift which causes rooms to change with each new run to the Black Roots that emerge throughout and regrow when no one is looking, are many. What your role is as the heir carrying the souls of their ancestors is also a mystery.

None of this is forced down your throat though – it’s possible to explore and pick up these entries or simply ignore them. For as intriguing as the overall story can be, Rogue Legacy 2 is about the rogue and legacy aspects first and foremost. You’ll venture through different biomes in the kingdom, gather Gold, Red Essence and Ores, and more than likely meet your end, swiftly or otherwise. Then it’s up to your descendant to carry on. Venture through the hub, give all of your Gold to Charon (minus however much can be stored with the Living Safe) and off you go.

"Though you start off as a Knight with a basic swing and shield for blocking damage, classes like the Ranger, Mage, Gunslinger, and Barbarian quickly become available."

By upgrading the manor, your descendants gain permanent bonuses like increased health, weapon damage, spell damage and new classes. Get further into the skill tree and vendors like the Blacksmith, who creates weapons and armor from blueprints, to the Enchantress who crafts Runes that can be equipped for a myriad of benefits (like health gain on kill). Sooner than later, you’re pouring Gold into increasing Intelligence to improve health drops, more starting armor, increased Rune weight capacity, and increased weapon and spell crit damage.

Of course, you also gain benefits like the Sage Totem which unlocks Mastery Rank, allowing each class to receive benefits on leveling up; Stat Bonuses based on how much Gold is given to Charon; Lady Quinn, the training dummy; and the Architect who will lock down a world layout for a cost, thus eliminating any randomness.

Entering the kingdom and its various biomes is where the real fun begins. Though you start off as a Knight with a basic swing and shield for blocking damage, classes like the Ranger, Mage, Gunslinger, and Barbarian quickly become available. The Ranger can attack from range, unleashing guaranteed weapon crits with the right timing; the Mage’s attack siphons Mana away from enemies to fuel their spells; the Gunslinger has a pistol for attacking from mid-range and can throw out explosives that block projectiles; and so on.

Each class brings their own unique play-style and nuance, whether it’s the Gunslinger’s last eight bullets being able to skill crit or the Mage gaining the Charged status after spending 50 Mana which makes the next attack a skill crit. To further mix things up, each gets their own random spell, traits and starting Relics. Traits can include things like items and currency being knocked away, enemies being “censored” with mosaics or even having one HP.

"Things get even crazier when you replace your starting weapon and skill, whether at the beginning or in the middle of a run. "

Certain Traits can make the game much harder, whether it’s removing the invulnerability window when taking damage or rendering your character unable to deal damage at all. The benefit to choosing them is a bonus to any Gold obtained, potentially increasing it by over 200 percent. Relics can also be used to balance the more troublesome Traits, providing benefits like healing from enemies slain by critical hits, burn damage from weapon hits and so on.

But this comes at the cost of Resolve – when Resolve dips below 100 percent, your max HP decreases. Even if you choose an Heir without Relics, deciding which ones to take during a run becomes that much more important (though there are ways to increase your max Resolve and max health). Things get even crazier when you replace your starting weapon and skill, whether at the beginning or in the middle of a run.

I started as a Ranger that would eventually wield a Ronin’s Katana (with the very edge of an attack being a guaranteed crit), a Valkyrie’s Halberd for deflecting projectiles (which restores Mana and reset the skill), the Boxer’s Combo passive (providing a two percent damage increase for each stack up to 30 stacks) and 700 HP. That’s on top of Traits like slain enemies dropping explosives and no invulnerability window when taking damage. This is only one of the many possible builds available – you could even find a Fabled weapon like Charon’s Scythe which dramatically alters your attacks (for better and worse).

All of this would be meaningless if the controls weren’t up to snuff especially with some of the more platforming heavy sections. Thankfully, they’re fairly tight and responsive, whether you’re dashing through hazards or using the Spin Kick to bounce off of objects and enemies. The level design is similarly great with each biome having its own hook.

"However, all of this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what’s available in Rogue Legacy 2."

Citadel Agartha is a castle filled with traps, skeletons, and powerful knights; Axis Mundi is a village to the East that requires skillful use of the Spin Kick to progress; and so on and so forth. Each location has a different Relic to collect which augments your exploration abilities further. They’re mandatory for the latter biomes but there’s nothing stopping you from exploring the earlier ones, even if you’re ill-equipped.

The random arrangement of rooms further enlivens the joy of exploring each location. You’ll encounter Fairy Chest rooms that require hitting a number of enemies and/or targets without losing health to platforming challenges and puzzles; challenge rooms that require defeating waves of enemies; and much more. Along with some common rooms that appear in all runs, there are rooms tuned to different classes. It keeps things fresh and challenging, though there may sometimes be a room that’s little more than a sudden hazard. Without going into spoilers, the boss fights are also challenging but incredibly fun with some nice surprises throughout.

However, all of this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what’s available in Rogue Legacy 2. There are Scars which serve as optional challenges – complete them quickly and you’ll earn currency that can increase the cap on some skills and Mastery Rank levels. There are alternate variants for classes like the Ballistics Archer who can’t fire in the air but makes up for it with a different, more powerful bow.

Different equipment can be mixed and matched to provide Unity bonuses which can increase your max Resolve, Dexterity for more weapon crit damage, Focus for Spell Crit damage, and so on (with different upgrades also available for each gear piece). I haven’t even gotten to New Game Plus aka Threads with their Burdens that dramatically alter the game while providing tougher enemies, more resources, and even tougher bosses.

"As accessible as it is immensely complex, Rogue Legacy 2 is a stellar title that will keep you coming back for just one more quirky run."

If there’s one major complaint that could be levied against Rogue Legacy 2, it’s that upgrading skills and equipment can feel grindy at times. The more invested into the estate, the more costly subsequent upgrades can be. A recent patch smoothed out some of the economy issues, especially in the early-going, but you may still have to revisit some areas just to scrounge up enough Gold for a few measly upgrades. At least the Gold bonuses from certain Traits go a ways towards alleviating this.

Rogue Legacy 2 may not be at the very apex of design like Hollow Knight or match its story and rogue-lite appeal. The difficulty, especially when exploring a new biome for the first time, may also prove irksome for some (though there are the House Rules for customizing enemy health, damage taken and much more if you want a more chilled out experience).

Overall though, it’s a great combination of both genres, offering near-endless replay value, a compelling narrative to unearth, a gorgeous and clean aesthetic, and fun gameplay. As accessible as it is immensely complex, Rogue Legacy 2 is a stellar title that will keep you coming back for just one more quirky run.

The rogue-lite Metroidvania increases Ore drops, lowers base cost and scaling for Tier 1-3 skills, and provides some changes to the Dragon Lancer.

Cellar Door Games’ Rogue Legacy 2 launched last week after spending roughly two years in early access. It’s now received its first post-launch patch which offers a number of changes to the economy, the skill tree and more. A new “Flick Stick check” has also been implemented for player inputs in order to prevent random turning (while the Left Stick takes priority over the right when aiming).

Ores, which are essentially for Blacksmith weapons and armor along with upgrades, have received increased scaling based on the room level. Bonus Ore from Gold Chests has also been increased from 150 to 200 percent while the drop rate and scaling rate from Commanders has been increased. The patch also lowers the base cost and scaling for Tier 1-3 Armor, Focus and Dexterity skills along with Tier 3 Strength, Intelligence, Vitality, Equip Weight and Rune Weight. So if you’ve been feeling the grind on some skills, this should help.

The Living Safe’s capacity has also been increased from 1250 to 1500 per level while the Gold conversion base cost has been reduced from 700 to 375. Check out some of the patch notes below and the full notes here for more details. Rogue Legacy 2 is currently available for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

Rogue Legacy 2 – Patch v1.0.1

TURNING AND THE STICK FLICK PROBLEM

In general, players manage the input on their gamepad joystick in one of two ways, which we call “Easing” and “Flicking”. When moving the joystick to neutral, “Easers” keep their thumb on the stick but loosen the pressure to bring it back. “Flickers” however, remove their thumb entirely so that the joystick snaps back to its neutral position. The issue with flicking is that when you release the joystick, it doesn’t immediately snap back to neutral. Instead, it bounces slightly in the opposite direction before resting at 0. Depending on how loose your joystick has become over time, this snap-back can be extremely high. This is what causes the player to turn, and why increasing the deadzone generally fixes the problem.

Deadzones, however, are not a perfect fix, because it means the player must move their joystick further in a direction before input is detected. This can result in a feeling of sluggishness for players who are hypersensitive to input latency. So, after three different attempts, we’ve implemented a complicated array of checks that ensure flick turning does not occur, even when the deadzone is set to 0. We’ve tested extensively (and broke two of our joysticks in the process), and we hope it fixes the issue for players. There might still be edge cases where this happens, so we’ll keep a vigilant eye on this.

TL;DR: Interpreting inputs in a game is a nightmare.

INPUT CHANGES:

Implemented a new “Flick Stick check” into player inputs to prevent players randomly turning.

Raised the default deadzone from 0.25 -> 0.4. If you were below this value, it’ll bump you up. You can lower this back down to 0.25 after this patch if you wanted.

Made Left Stick take priority over Right Stick while aiming (fixes an issue for players not being able to aim if they have a very loose Right Stick).

ECONOMY

Ore Update (Buff)

Ore scaling increased (speed at which ore drops go up as room level raises).

Bonus Ore from Gold chests increased from 150% to 200%.

Bonus Ore from Silver chests increased from 50% to 60%

Commanders Ore base drop rate and scaling rate increased.

Skill Tree Update (Buff)

Lowering the cost of all of the “base stat” skills to help speed up the early, mid, and late game for players (NG0, NG1-4, NG5+), and to also reduce the punishment for players who like to spread out early.

Base cost and scaling for Tier 1 Armor, Focus and Dexterity skills slightly reduced.

Base cost and scaling for Tier 2 Armor, Focus and Dexterity skills moderately reduced.

Base cost and scaling for Tier 3 Armor, Focus and Dexterity skills significantly reduced.

Base cost and scaling for Tier 3 Strength, Intelligence, Vitality, Equip Weight and Rune Weight significantly reduced.

Living Safe Changes (Buff)

Living safe is our way of helping new players if they’re struggling to collect large amounts of gold in a single run. We’re reducing the cost significantly so that people will be more willing to invest points into it and can reap the benefits earlier on.

Living Safes Gold Safe Converter base cost reduced from 700 to 375. This affects scaling costs as well.

Living Save Storage base cost reduced from 500 to 375.

Living Safe Capacity increased from 1250 per level to 1500 per level.

Labour Costs (Buff)

Labor costs kick-in delay increased from Lvl 18 to lvl 20.

Archeologists Camp – Lower Relic Costs (Buff)

Lowering the cost to get resolve stuff since relics are fun.

Base cost lowered from 2000, to 1750. Scaling costs reduced as well.

Aerobics Class – Encumbrance Limits (Buff)

Making it easier to hit weight limits for more resolve.

Base cost lowered from 1500, to 1400. Scaling costs reduced as well.

CLASS CHANGES

Dragon Lancer (Buff + Minor Remake)

Changing the Dragon Lancer so you’re doing more Lancing! Tap Attack now acts more as a reposition, forcing enemies back, so that you can do Dash attacks more often. Bastion has been buffed, and is now a “go crazy mode ability”. Activate it, block everything, and wail on your foes.

(Community) Lance – Blastback (Redesign)

Blast Back attack exit duration slightly reduced.

Blast Back damage down from 200% STR to 180% STR.

Blast Back now knocks enemies further back, and can now knock back heavy enemies (Sword Knights).

Bastion (Remake + Buff)

CD timer raised from 5 hits to 6.

Increased projectile block size from Mid-Sized Projectiles to Large Projectiles.

RELICS

Demeter’s Trial (Buff)

Finding 2 food/potions is hard enough that people skip this trial. So we’re reducing this to 1 to ensure people do stupid things.

Now requires only 1 food to purify.

Aite’s Trial (Buff)

Damage increased from +125% to +150%.

Hermes’ Boots (Buff)

Rarity lowered to common.

Resolve cost lowered from 35 to 25.

Icarus Wing’s Bargain (Buff)

Damage Taken Modifier reduced from +100% to +75%.

Rage Tincture (QoL)

Now displays an icon when you trigger the damage bonus.

Now displays an icon when you trigger the damage bonus.

LEVELS

Fixed soft lock on the bridge where two pieces could connect and make an impossible jump (without access to Double Jump).

Fixed multiple rooms with minor geo bugs.

TRAITS

Vertigo (REMOVED)

We received a bunch of reports of nausea, so it’s time to chuck this into the bucket of removed Traits. Plus, while Vertigo was a cool blast from the past, it doesn’t really fit the sequel.

The Pirate and Astromancer join the game's roster while Burdens, economy and overall game balance have seen several adjustments.

Cellar Door Games’ Rogue Legacy 2 is now available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC, exiting early access after nearly two years. Along with the full ending sequence and final boss, patch v1.0.0 it also brings a ton of new content. Check out the release trailer below to see some of it in action.

Some of the highlights include two new classes – the Astromancer, a Mage with mobility, and the Pirate who is, to put it simply, “just weird.” The Golden Doors have also finally opened, promising even more challenges, and the remaining Burdens for biomes and bosses (along with a rebalance for Burdens overall) have been added.

The economy and game balance have also been revamped, making the early game somewhat easier, while all “average” classes now have 5 percent extra HP scaling. Classes like the Bard and Gunslinger have also seen redesigns along with some buffs. Check out some of the patch below full notes here for more details.

Rogue Legacy 2 – v1.0.0

PATCH HIGHLIGHTS

The Golden Doors Open – Players can now bring their story to a close, as the secrets behind the Golden Doors finally reveal themselves. For the triumphant heroes that complete their sacred task, remember that your journey has just begun. Only the most ardent adventurers will discover the true mysteries hidden with the walls of this treacherous kingdom.

Black Flags and Black Holes – Arrrrr! The final two classes make their mark with the addition of the Pirate and the Astromancer. This bring the total class count for Rogue Legacy 2 to a whopping 15. While we don’t want to give too much away, we can reveal that the Astromancer is our take on a “mobility Mage”, while the Pirate is just weird.

Localization – French, German, Spanish, Korean, Chinese Traditional + Simplified, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish and Russian. Due to all of the allusions, allegories, and alliterations in Rogue Legacy 2, the game’s word count reached over 68000, and made the translation into 10 different languages a massive undertaking. We want to give huge thanks to Allcorrect Games for putting their heart into the localization. Nearly 500 questions were asked and answered during the translation process in order to keep the spirit of the story intact across all these languages.

NG+ Cycle Complete – Burdens have been rebalanced, and all remaining unique biome and boss Burdens have been added to the game. This caps off the NG+ experience, with every Estuary having a proper Prime variant, and every biome holding a few more tricks. We hope this variety of ever-increasing challenges keeps players enjoying the world of RL2 into NG+10 and beyond.

Songs and Achievements – More than 35 achievements await intrepid explorers seeking to unveil everything there is to discover in Rogue Legacy 2. But those who go the extra mile will be rewarded with more than just bragging rights. Completing achievements will also award players with the songs heard throughout their adventure, which can be played once the jukebox is obtained. Also, we added a jukebox.

Improved QoL at the Docks – One of the most requested quality-of-life features for RL2 has been a way to save various Gear and Rune loadouts. The Blacksmith and Enchantress have heard your pleas, and they now offer a way to toggle one saved set of equipped Gear and Runes per class. We’ve also added a scoreboard to Scar Challenges, to easily see which classes have successfully completed which challenge.

Effects Overhaul – We’ve combed over every enemy, player, prop, and ability effect in the game to see where we could make the visuals really pop. Things like the Boxer’s attacks have more impact, enemy projectiles are more easily seen, and everything is just more sparkly.

Early Access Syncing – If you’ve been with RL2 for most of Early Access and are already multiple NGs deep, we’ve made sure you don’t need to start from scratch for things to make sense. We’ve added a feature that allows you to fast-forward to the appropriate spot in the story based on how many times you’ve already beaten the game, as well as achievement checks every step of the way so that you don’t need to unlock things all over again to earn achievements.

Economy and Game Balance Rehaul – From what chests drop, to the gold gain algorithm, to even your starting Resolve, virtually no stone has been left unturned in our quest to make the economy and game balance in RL2 the best it can be. And while it may seem risky to rehaul everything right before the v1.0 launch, it actually involved months of constant back and forth. Make a change, get feedback from the Vanguard team, and do it all over again. The goal was to ease up the early game while still making gold matter in the late game (NG+10 and beyond). We discuss this more later on in the patch notes.

CLASS ADDITIONS/CHANGES

New Classes

Astromancer Class added. The new mobility-Mage arrives.

Pirate Class added. The new shooty mcboat scoundrel arrives.

Class Health (BUFF)

We’re boosting the HP of all “average” health classes to reduce the gap between “tanks” (Knights, Barbs, Dragon Lancers, etc.) and everyone else. We’re also raising the base HP for all classes to let players take a few more licks before falling in the early game.

All average HP scaling classes, (Rangers, Duelists and Bards) have an additional +5% HP scaling.

Raised Grace HP from 50 to 100 (All classes). Grace HP is special health that is not affected by modifiers of any kind, including Class Passives.

Bard (REDESIGN + BUFF)

The Bard is one of the strongest classes in the game, but their learning curve is pretty insane. We’re lowering the complexity of their kit by making them more reactionary and easier to power up.

Reduced the range of the notes by a lot. THIS IS A BUFF. Closer notes allow for more reactionary play, and less prep-time.

Dance Passive damage per stack raised from 10% to 15%. Max stacks lowered from 10 to 5. THIS IS ALSO A BUFF! No one was ever reaching 10 stacks.

Bards now give Spin Kick damage as their Mastery bonus.

Gunslinger (REDESIGN + BUFF)

Gunslingers were always meant to be the high speed mixed-stat range class. Reload durations and the complexity of the dynamite, however, made this character very difficult to master. We’re revamping the Gunslinger to be more agile, more aggressive, and to get more benefit from INT/Magic builds.

(NEW) Pistol now has Dynamic Reload. Reload duration changes depending on how much ammo you have remaining (minimum reload time is 0.1s).

Ammo capacity increased from 20 to 22.

(NEW) Dynamite now generates 10 Mana.

Dynamite activation delay reduced from 1.0s to 0.5s.

Damage reduced from 250% INT scaling to 125% INT.

Vertical lift reduced significantly to allow for more horizontal movement.

Enemy knockback reduced. The shortened trigger time sometimes knocked enemies INTO the player, which necessitated this change.

Valkyrie (BUFF)

Valkyries were in an OK spot, but with all of the QoL buffs made previously to the Duelist, and the arrival of the Ronin, this character started falling behind. We’re raising their HP to let them make more mistakes when they’re deep in the fray.

Community: Valkyrie HP raised from Low scaling to Average scaling (+15% total).

Assassin (BUFF)

Cloak now applies VULNERABLE if you break the stealth early with an attack.

Barbarian (MINOR NERF + QoL)

The damage of the Barbarian has always been on the wild side, so we’re making a change to keep them more in line, although this is barely a nerf.

Axe ground strike base damage reduced from 260% Strength scaling to 250% Strength Scaling.

Barbarian Shout now plays the Bard Crescendo animation. This causes the shout to now cancel other abilities.

Ballistic Archer (BUFF)

Community: Ground Bow now pierces cursed projectiles.

Boxer (BUFF)

Community: Dash attacks and uppercuts are now Skill Crits.

Chef (BUFF)

Community: Frying Pan Mana generation raised from 10 to 15. Chef doesn’t really need the help, but having more Mana fits with their playstyle better.

Dragon Lancer (BUFF)

Talent cooldown reduced from 6 to 5.

Talent duration increased from 3 seconds to 3.25 seconds.

Mage (QoL)

Tweaked Mage’s Wand aim indicator to better match where the explosion occurs.

Two new classes, new boss battles, five new Scars, new Manor skills, the full story and final boss, and much more will be added in the 1.0 release.

After launching in August 2020 for early access on Steam and the Epic Games Store, Cellar Door Games’ Rogue Legacy 2 will have its 1.0 release today at 10 AM PDT. Along with the full game being available for PC, it also launches for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

What can long-time players expect in the newest update? The story has been fully implemented, right down to the ending sequence and final boss. Translations, Achievements and the localization backend is also fully implemented. In terms of new content, there are new bosses to battle, two new classes, five new Scars, seven new Burdens, a new Spell and new Manor skills.

Furthermore, Relics, Burdens and the economy have been rebalanced (the economy changes in particular should help the game feel less grindy). Class specific loadouts, the Jukebox and Scoreboards are also coming along with an overhaul to the music and sound effects. Stay tuned for more details and patch notes later today.

After almost four years of development - two of those in early access - the rogue-lite side-scroller will finally release later this month.

Cellar Door Games has released a new animated trailer for Rogue Legacy 2. It also confirmed that the rogue-lite side-scroller would exit early access on April 28th, launching on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store as well as for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

Rogue Legacy 2 can best be described as a bigger, better version of its predecessor. Along with a new art-style, it offers 15 different classes, each with its own play-style. Of course, since this is essentially a story told across generations, you can choose from a handful of descendants with differing strengths and defects to go with their classes.

Some of the newer additions to the formula include Heirlooms which give permanent powers once unlocked; Traits 2.0 which offers more gold depending on how punishing a trait is; and Relics which modify stats and grant new abilities. If the difficulty is too punishing, then new House Rules allow for modifying global damage, granting flight and much more.

Stay tuned for more details and patch notes when version 1.0 arrives later this month. Check out our review for the original game in the meantime.

The Drift House, Mastery System changes, and much more also added.

Cellar Door Games’ Rogue Legacy 2 has received a very sizable update in the form of The Drifting Worlds. It adds a new biome in the Sun Tower, two new classes – the Lancer and Boxer – and Fabled Weapons among lots of other features. Check out the release trailer below.

The new classes are perhaps the game’s most interesting yet. The Lancer is capable of charging their Dragon Lance and surging ahead to deal damage but miss and there could be repercussions. The Boxer, meanwhile, is all about attacking enemies up close with punches before knocking them back. Further adding to the diversity of each run are Fabled Weapons which provide strong abilities (but at a cost).

The Mastery System has also been overhauled to provide more XP the deeper one ventures. For those seeking a challenge, there are new Commanders which receive a random buff and can prove tougher than the average foe. Then there’s the Drift House which provides unique challenges, Threads for New Game Plus levels and much more.

Rogue Legacy 2 is currently available in early access for PC. It’s set to release in 2021.

The Architect returns and Curio Shoppes have also been added.

Cellar Door Games has released its second big update for Rogue Legacy 2, adding a new biome, the Stygian Study, and two new classes, Gunslinger and Assassin. With this update, the developer has confirmed that overall content in the sequel has surpassed the first game (barring New Game+ aspects) and there’s more to come. Check out the video below to see the new content in action.

The Stygian Study is described as the “beating heart of the kingdom” and focused on research. It can be explored at any time during one’s journey. As for the new classes, Gunslinger is about shooting down foes with bullets while Assassin is a glass cannon that can also cloak. Other new additions include the return of the Architect who lets you replay a previous world and attempt to clear previous challenges. Of course, this becomes more expensive with each attempt.

Curio Shoppes have also been added and are encountered randomly. These allow for swapping weapons, spells and talents, though they’re described as “hugely experimental” and may be available for a limited time. If all of this wasn’t enough, the difficulty has also been rebalanced slightly especially with stuff like Heirloom Challenges. Check out the full patch notes here for more details.

ADDITIONAL GAMEPLAY CHANGES

Community: Added Set Primary Display to options.

Community: Added PS4 and Nintendo Switch icons. Controller icons can be changed in the settings.
