Crytek "100 percent not happy with Xbox One sales" right now.

Yesterday, publisher Crytek – which has been facing financial troubles and controversies when it couldn’t pay staff in Crytek UK, resulting in Deep Silver picking up the Homefront IP – announced that Ryse: Son of Rome would be coming to PC later this year.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said the decision was made because, “Ryse is our IP. We do what we want to do with the future of Ryse. This is important. We are not 100 percent happy with Xbox One sales right now. So we want to wait till the current gen and next gen catches up.”

There have been rumours that a sequel in the franchise had been cancelled due to the aforementioned financial problems. But it’s more of a case of the original needing to be more successful first. “For Ryse 2, we aren’t saying it’s cancelled. It’s our IP. It just has to wait for the right timing. And the right timing means higher installed base across next-gen.”

Yerli further debunked rumours of Ryse: Son of Rome releasing too early just to get on the Xbox One at launch. “There were rumours saying, hey, there were penalties if you don’t release. This was all bullshit.

“We had agreed with Microsoft to put it out on time. In fact, we had conversations from Microsoft to us, telling us, guys, do you want to push out the game? We wouldn’t be offended by that. But when we let the team choose – not the management – when we asked, guys, do you want to try to get it done by Holiday or do you want to take a few more months time, unanimously they team decided to go for the launch window of a console because that’s something emotional to be a part of. To be part of an event like that, you do it once every five to 10 years. So everybody was pushing towards that.”

We’ll of course see how this develops further down the line so stay tuned.

Cevat Yerli explains just why the upcoming next-gen consoles don't fit into his opinion of "next-gen".

Speaking to Official Xbox Magazine UK, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli made another strong statement about the viability of next generation consoles’ so-called “power”. “We have been saying CryEngine 3 is next-gen ready for years now. The reason I’m saying that is – and this is before we knew the specs, because three years ago nobody knew – it’s impossible to go too far beyond what we say today is next gen because it would cost too much.”

“It would be prohibitively expensive to launch a next-gen console beyond what we say is next gen. It would potentially be a death knell for at least one company.”

:If you take in the cost of making a console, the parts of it, and say, ‘okay, that has to be better than the best PC experience at that time plus two years later’. And you want a package – a $200, $300, $400 package. It’s just physically and financially impossible to go higher, so you have to bring it down again, and our guesstimates have been quite right.”

This pretty much mirrors NVidia’s general opinion as well. For now, it seems PCs will reign in terms of processing power.

Wait, so it could've looked even better?

It’s insane to look at Crytek’s Crysis 3 and think that it’s not even on next generation consoles. The sheer visual fidelity of the game is quickly becoming the stuff of legend.

However, CEO Cevat Yerli admits that the developer could have done far more if it was a PC-exclusive release…since the current generation of consoles effectively limited its graphics.

Speaking to Gamasutra, Yerli explained that being “eight year old devices…Of course, in one way or another, they will limit you. It’s impossible not to limited by a limited console. By definition, it’s the case. So if it were PC only, could we have done more things? Certainly, yes.”

Of course, they couldn’t have made it a PC-exclusive due to the mammoth $66 million it cost to develop. All that money comes from being multiplatform, folks.

“Could we have afforded a budget to make a game like Crysis 3 PC only? No. People have to understand that this is a journey of give and take.”

So there you have it. But even then, it’s still the best looking game today.

Cevat Yerli opens up about the deal with Vigil and the future of Darksiders.

When THQ’s auction was over and done with, many IPs had found themselves a new home. Except Darksiders and, for that matter, its developer Vigil Studios. But why was that?

Even Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli, who eventually made a deal with Vigil founder David Adams to form Crytek USA from the 20-30 employees available, had no idea.

Speaking to GamesBeat, he said, “We were surprised when nobody bid on Vigil. We would have liked to have bid, but there were too many unknowns.

“I thought that maybe we could reconsider bidding, but eventually we decided not to because the projects [the developer was working on] weren’t strategically fit for us, but I really liked David [when I talked to him] on the phone. He made a very good impression on me as someone who really cared, someone who is really passionate about what he does, and someone who is passionate about the team he works with.”

However, there won’t be a Darksiders 3 “since that doesn’t fit with our strategy” according to Yerli. Though Crytek USA isn’t bound by a specific concept, this fact means we won’t be seeing the Four Horseman again anytime soon.

But no seriously, you should probably upgrade.

Cevat Yerli, founder and CEO of Crytek, is no stranger to humour or the state of his popular franchise Crysis.

When quizzed by AusGamers about what will be done to use Crytek 3 for the benefit of PC gamers, Yerli responded amusingly, “You know the joke right? The ‘Can it run Crysis?’ question. So we will definitely make sure that Crysis 3 will resurrect the question again ‘Can it run Crysis 3?’ and we will melt the PCs down.”

On a more serious note, though, that’s exactly what they intend to do. Yerli continued, saying, “Honestly, we will push the PCs to its limit… to its boundaries. The idea is that PCs will be next-gen gaming, consoles will be current-gen maximising it.

“We can’t deliver next-gen perse on current-gen; we already did that with Crysis 2, you know. So it’s going to be maximising the current generation on consoles, and giving you a glimpse of next-gen – or what it means in a visual, and a simulation, and a richness of a world – on a PC.”

Regardless of whether it’ll warrant an upgrade or not, Crysis 3 should be a treat for PC gamers.

Boosting the momentum in preparation for global release, Warface is on a warpath.

CEO and Crytek founder Cevat Yerli is all smiles. Not only is Warface being prepped for a worldwide release for PC (besides the good chance that it may come to consoels) but it also received the GamesCom 2012 award for Best Social/Casual/Online Game. Chosen by an international panel of judges, it presents a distinct honour to the developer Crytek.

Yerli commented, “We’re excited that Warface has been recognised with this award. At its core, Warface is a new social first-person shooter experience that invites players and their friends of all levels to come together and discover Crytek quality for free. This award underlines what we saw on the show floor in Cologne; that Warface is being viewed favorably by everyone looking for something new in online multiplayer gaming.”

Warface is currently scheduled to enter into beta testing for Europe and North America this Fall. Social hub GFACE will be accessible at launch.
