The latest UK charts courtesy of Chart-Track are finally out and in a surprising twist, neither FIFA 18, Grand Theft Auto 5 nor Call of Duty: WW2 occupy the top spot. Instead, as of March 17th, the clear winner is Burnout Paradise Remastered, a revamped version of Criterion’s previous gen racer. Given that it released on March 16th for PS4 and Xbox One, that’s pretty impressive.

Kirby Star Allies for the Nintendo Switch also debuted strong in second place despite above average reviews from critics. FIFA 18 actually rose from fourth to third place while Grand Theft Auto 5 dropped to fourth. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is in fifth place followed by Super Mario Odyssey in sixth and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in seventh place.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild continues to hang on at tenth place but surprisingly enough, EA Sports UFC 3 and Fallout 4 have re-entered the top ten charts. The former is now in eighth, up from 14th place, while the latter is in ninth, up from 13th place.

Launch week sales of the remake are 73 percent higher than the original.

Sony’s reign of chart-topping titles can’t be stopped. The latest UK sales data from Chart-Track states that Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 has debuted at number 1 in the region. It beat Monster Hunter World which dropped to third place. Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 also saw launch week sales that were 73 percent higher than the PS2 version which released in 2007. Since Chart-Track only accounts for physical sales and not digital, overall units sold will be higher.

In other news, EA Sports UFC 3 maintained its place in second while FIFA 18 stayed in fourth place. Grand Theft Auto 5 also remained in fifth place followed by Call of Duty: WW2 which dropped to sixth place from third. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey maintained their positions at seventh and eighth respectively while Assassin’s Creed Origins rose from 15th to ninth place.

Perhaps an even bigger surprise is The Evil Within 2 which suddenly came up to tenth place despite not being in the top 40 for the previous week. What are your thoughts on success of Shadow of the Colossus PS4? Let us know in the comments.

Meanwhile, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT only sells 5,000 units in its first week.

It’s another week that sees Capcom’s Monster Hunter World at the top of UK sales charts according to Chart-Track. Monster Hunter World managed to ship an astounding five million units in three days worldwide (digital downloads included) so it’s no surprise to still see it at the top.

Electronic Arts also has a strong debut with EA Sports UFC 3 which is in second place. It’s followed by the usual suspect – Call of Duty: WW2, FIFA 18 and Grand Theft Auto 5 in third, fourth and fifth respectively. Dragon Ball FighterZ, despite debuting in second place for its launch week, has fallen to sixth place.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe dropped one place to seventh while Super Mario Odyssey saw a strong rise from 16th to eighth place. Interestingly though Dissidia Final Fantasy NT debuted last week for PS4, it’s only sold 5,000 units thus far. It still placed higher than Dissidia Final Fantasy in 2009 (10th place) and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy in 2011 (24th place) which both released for PSP. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild dropped from seventh to tenth place.

Monster Hunter World experiences "far higher" week 1 sales than any other Monster Hunter in the UK.

Capcom’s Monster Hunter World was posed to draw big at release so it’s perhaps no surprise that it was the number 1 selling game in the UK. As per Chart-Track however, it also saw far higher week 1 sales in the region compared to any other game in the series till date. So yes, it performed even better than Monster Hunter Generations for the 3DS in 2016.

In second place is Dragon Ball FighterZ which set a new record in terms of chart position for the franchise. Unit sales are apparently the same as Dragon Ball Xenoverse on the PS4/Xbox One but that debuted in third place in 2015.

The rest of the chart is predictable enough. Call of Duty: WW2 is in third place followed by FIFA 18 and Grand Theft Auto 5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild fell to sixth and seventh place respectively while PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on the Xbox One hangs around eighth place. The few surprising games are Rocket League: Collector’s Edition in ninth and The Inpatient for PlayStation VR in tenth.

This week's top ten is fairly the same, except for a surprising new entry at number 10.

Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: WW2 is once again at the top of physical sales charts in the UK according to Chart-Track. This is the shooter’s tenth week as the top selling game – if it manages another week at number 1, then it will equal the record set by Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

FIFA 18 is in second place in the meantime followed by Grand Auto 5, which fell from first to third place. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is in fourth placed followed by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in fifth (which moved up from three places from eighth). PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds remains fairly static at sixth place while Assassin’s Creed Origins fell from fourth to seventh place.

Super Mario Odyssey managed the eighth place spot as Star Wars Battlefront 2 falls to ninth. Interestingly, the 10th place title and only new entry for this week is Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker Memory for PS4 and PS Vita. Your guess is as good as ours.

This is the open world title's first number 1 position since June 2017.

You would think that the popularity of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5 couldn’t be any crazier. However, Chart-Track has revealed in its sales data for the week ending January 13th that the open world title claimed the top spot in sales for the UK.

Though it’s been in the top 10 for a number of weeks since launching in September 2013, this is the first time since June 2017 that Grand Theft Auto 5 has topped the charts in sales. Call of Duty: WW2 is in second place while FIFA 18 is in third place. Assassin’s Creed Origins is at fourth followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in fifth place.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is still holding fairly strong at sixth place despite the physical version only being available for Xbox One. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is in seventh followed by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Forza Motorsport 7 and Super Mario Odyssey to round out the top 10.

Grand Theft Auto 5 meanwhile spends its 225th consecutive week in the top 40.

The last few months have been very interesting for game sales in the UK. As per Chart-Track, Call of Duty: WW2 spent nine straight weeks on top, equaling the record set by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It was on its way to beating it but unfortunately, FIFA 18 has unseated it as the top-selling game at UK physical retail.

Call of Duty: WW2 is still in second place so it’s not all bad news. Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto 5 has set its own record at third place, having been in the top 40 charts for 225 weeks straight. If that weren’t enough, 85 percent of its time has been spent in the top 10.

Assassin’s Creed Origins is in fourth place followed by Star Wars Battlefront 2, The Sims 4 and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. PUBG’s re-entry into the top 10 is via the physical Xbox One version and despite launch issues, it still managed to place seventh. The rest of the charts consist of Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Forza Motorsport 7.

Call of Duty wins Christmas week for the fourth straight year in a row and for eight years overall.

It’s the Holiday season in the UK and that means one significant new “exclusive” to the Xbox One has made its debut. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds managed to debut fourth on UK software charts as per Chart-Track, which is fairly impressive given its status in Game Preview. When you factor in that only physical sales are tracked in the charts, then the potential sales for PUBG could be even higher (despite its performance on Xbox One).

Meanwhile, Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: WW2 continues to reign at the number 1 spot, doing so in four straight years as the Christmas No. 1. It equals FIFA’s record for this, achieving this feat for eight years. FIFA 18 is in second place this week followed by Star Wars Battlefront 2 in third.

Assassin’s Creed Origins and Super Mario Odyssey occupy fifth and sixth place respectively. The remainder of the chart consists of Grand Theft Auto 5, WWE 2K18, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Other new debuts include Okami HD at 37th place.

Though it didn't enter the UK top ten, Monolith Soft's latest has performed better than its predecessor.

Though it’s not quite on the level of Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is still one of the biggest exclusives of 2017. The Nintendo Switch title has already garnered a good amount of critical acclaim and though it debuted at 19th place in the UK as per Chart-Track, it still performed better than its predecessors.

Christopher Dring of Games Industry International noted on Twitter that the sales of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 were up by over a third from Xenoblade Chronicles X. Bruno MB of Resetera (who first tweeted Dring) noted that Xenoblade Chronicles X sold 10,500 units in its first week in the UK. If Xenoblade Chronicles 2 sales are up by over a third, then that would put it at about 14,000 units or so. Keep in mind that none of this includes physical sales.

We’ll know more once Nintendo officially announces the numbers but despite failing to breach the UK top 10, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 isn’t in as tough a spot as many believe. What are your thoughts of the game thus far? Let us know in the comments.

2 sales are up by about a third over X. So yes. A stronger launch, for certain.

"Serious discounting" means that GT Sport could eventually be the best selling PS4 exclusive of 2017.

Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo series has always had a strong market in the UK, though the same argument could be applied for a number of racing sims. It helped Gran Turismo Sport with a strong debut but thanks to Black Friday deals, the PS4 exclusive has seen a huge uptick in sales.

In fact, according to Chart-Track, Gran Turismo Sport is just a few weeks away from reaching Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy as the no. 1 selling PS4 exclusive of 2017 in the UK. As per Games Industry International, “serious discounting” over the last few weeks has Gran Turismo Sport reach this point. Considering Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy spent five consecutive weeks on top of the charts when it launched, that’s no small feat.

Black Friday 2017 as a whole was incredibly lucrative for Sony’s PlayStation 4 – it was the console’s second best Black Friday week ever in the UK. Its best Black Friday week was in 2013 when the PS4 launched.
