Firaxis is just one of the developers in-house up to create a new IP.

While Rockstar rightly gets all the fame and glory for their enormous Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, their sister label, 2K Games, which also falls under the larger Take-Two label, also does its own fair share of work. While the publisher can boast about several big titles in its arsenal, in a new interview, studio president David Ismailer relayed hopes to expand on that portfolio.

Boasting that the ideas they have outstrip their resources to actually execute those ideas, Ismailer said in an interview with GamesIndustry,“We’re looking to expand and grow our portfolio, whether it’s internally developing more products, or it’s adding more long-term partnerships to our 2K product line. We’re looking for quality products to deliver to consumers with long engagement.” He would later also specify that Civilization and XCOM developers Firaxis are looking to create another IP as one example, which you can read more about here.

Ismailer’s words to seem to nod towards that ever popular Games-as-a-Service model that we’ve seen growing in the games industry like a slow growing tumour for awhile, but we’ll have to see where they go with it in the future. Let us know in the comments.

Firaxis is looking to revamp the end-game when it releases on February 8th 2018.

Firaxis Games’ Civilization VI is receiving a new expansion called Rise and Fall on February 8th 2018. The obvious attempt with this expansion is to strengthen the end-game for the 4X title and keep players invested. Check out the trailer below to see some of the new stuff that’s coming.

To sum it up, there will be Great Ages where your civilization will either enter the Dark Ages or the Golden Ages. There are different challenges and bonuses provided by both but rising above a Dark Age will ensure a better Golden Age, thus turning it into a Heroic Age. Cities will have individual Loyalty to leaders and it’s possible to lose a city if their Loyalty is low.

Then there’s the enhanced alliances system, Emergencies for civilizations to band together and battle an overpowered civilization, the Timeline to look back on your various accomplishments and much more. You can also expect nine new leaders and eight new civilizations, eight new world wonders, seven natural wonders and fourteen new buildings. Thoughts on all of this content? Let us know below.

One more turn.

Firaxis are on a roll- after launching XCOM 2 earlier this year, they will be gearing up to launch the newest entry in their other big franchise, Civilization. That’s right, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI has been announced, and it has been confirmed for a release on October 21 on PC.

The new game promises to be a significant evolution of Civilization– it promises “new ways to interact with your world, expand your empire across the map, advance your culture, and compete against history’s greatest leaders to build a civilization that will stand the test of time.” The game’s Steam page is already up, and goes a bit more in depth into what we can expect:

EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before. Each city spans multiple tiles so you can custom build your cities to take full advantage of the local terrain.

ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization’s progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures.

DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game, from primitive first interactions where conflict is a fact of life, to late game alliances and negotiations.

COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units, like anti-tank support with infantry, or a warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form powerful “Corps” units.

ENHANCED MULTIPLAYER: In addition to traditional multiplayer modes, cooperate and compete with your friends in a wide variety of situations all designed to be easily completed in a single session.

A CIV FOR ALL PLAYERS: Civilization VI provides veteran players new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success. New tutorial systems introduce new players to the underlying concepts so they can easily get started.

You can check out the first trailer, as well as the first few screenshots, for the game below. Civilization V was one of the best games ever created, so Civilization VI has some big shoes to fill- let’s hope it fills them without many issues.
