Nintendo's new online service is set to launch in March. Third time's the charm?

Nintendo’s My Nintendo program for the Nintendo Network – which simultaneously acts as a replacement for Club Nintendo and the Digital Deluxe Pro programs, while also giving Nintendo a program analogous to PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold – will be launching this March, Nintendo has confirmed.

Nintendo also confirmed multiple details on the new system- your previous Nintendo Network accounts transfer over to the new program automatically, for example. My Nintendo will be used with all Nintendo services, including Nintendo eShop, Miiverse, Nintendo’s smartphone games, as well as on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. My Nintendo will have two tiers: Gold and Platinum. Gold will function similarly to Club Nintendo, where you earn points that you can trade in against games and software to earn discounts (for instance, having 100 Gold coins may get your $10 off on Xenoblade Chronicles X), while Platinum coins are given out for engaging with Nintendo’s services.

Nintendo confirmed that the My Nintendo service will also eventually include universal friends management, social features, and cloud functionality, so it looks like Nintendo are going all in on this. It is set to launch in 39 different countries in March. It will be available on the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PCs, smartphones, and any future systems Nintendo launches, such as the NX.

Club Nintendo rides off into the sunset with a damn good haul.

This year will be the last year of Club Nintendo, and it is already going out with a bit of a bang, with some extremely great rewards having been offered to players in exchange for their coins over the last few months or so. Now, the final Gold and Platinum level rewards for Club Nintendo have also been revealed, and it’s a great haul.

Here is what you can get:

PLATINUM

Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)

Mario Golf: World Tour (3DS)

Mario Kart 7 (3DS)

Mario Party: Island Tour (3DS)

New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS)

Yoshi’s New Island (3DS)

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U)

NES Remix 2 (Wii U)

Punch-Out!! (Wii U)

Pushmo World (Wii U)

Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii U)

Ultimate NES Remix (3DS)

GOLD

Crashmo (3DS)

Freakyforms: Your Creations, Alive! (3DS)

Pushmo (3DS)

Super Mario Bros. 3 (3DS)

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (3DS)

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (3DS)

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (3DS)

The Mysterious Murasame Castle (3DS)

Advance Wars (Wii U)

The Legend of Zelda (Wii U)

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (Wii U)

Metroid Fusion (Wii U)

Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (Wii U)

Super Mario Kart (Wii U)

WarioWare, Inc,: Mega Microgames! (Wii U)

Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 (Wii U)

So yeah, that’s a pretty good haul. Remember, if you are Platinum, but for whatever reason, don’t like the rewards on offer, you can also opt for any of the Gold rewards instead.

Farewell, Club Nintendo. You had a nice run.

The Wonderful 101, Kid Icarus Uprising, Super Mario 3D Land, Majora's Mask, and more on offer.

As we reported a month ago, Nintendo is discontinuing Club Nintendo worldwide, and will be replacing it with another, different loyalty program later this year. That said, they did promise they would be offering a massive haul of new rewards to redeem all of your points in February, and they have come through on that beautifully- what you see above is the final rewards update from Club Nintendo, and it is a massive one, offering loads of great games.

The games on offer include NES Remix, Dr. Luigi, Game and Wario, The Wonderful 101, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Golden Sun, Star Fox 64 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, and more.

If you don’t want any games, and would rather have a physical reward, then Nintendo will also be offering new calendars, posters, jigsaw puzzles, and a Majora’s Mask puzzle bag.

It’s all pretty good, and if you want to redeem your reward, be sure to visit Club Nintendo’s website and do it as soon as possible.

End of an era.

Club Nintendo has always been a unique mix of data collection/loyalty rewards program from Nintendo- it was a program that offered you with exclusive Nintendo merchandise and digital games just for buying their products. It was pretty neat, and it offered a nice alternative to programs like PS+ or Xbox Live Gold.

But its quality has declined in recent years, and now we know why- Nintendo today announced that they would be flat out discontinuing the program worldwide, effective immediately, although you can still earn additional coins through to the end of March, and redeem them till June 30. Nintendo confirmed that it is planning on introducing a brand new loyalty program later this year. Nintendo will also be making Flipnote Studio 3D for the 3DS available for free for all Club Nintendo members in February.

“We thank all Club Nintendo members for their dedication to Nintendo games and their ongoing love for our systems and characters,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “We want to make this time of transition as easy as possible for our loyal Club Nintendo members, so we are going to add dozens of new rewards and downloadable games to help members clear out their Coin balances.”

Last year, Nintendo indicated that it wanted to have a loyalty program that tied in better with its digital games strategy- it followed up on this sentiment by using Club Nintendo to distribute exclusive demos for anticipated games like Super Smash Bros., Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and Pokemon OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire. Whatever the new Nintendo loyalty rewards program is like, let’s hope that it is more consistent and with better rewards overall than Club Nintendo was by the end.

Mario and Zelda, your time is at an end.

Club Nintendo revealed the top Nintendo games of the year as voted for by the fans, and the results were starkly surprising- where you would expect traditional Nintendo franchises like Mario or Zelda (or maybe Pokemon) to take the crown (especially after all three of them exhibited such strong showings with their latest entries), the winners were entirely unexpected.

The two best Nintendo games of the year, as voted by fans, were Pikmin 3, and The Wonderful 101, both on the Wii U. The other Wii U games that got votes in were The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D World, Rayman Legends, Monster Hunter 3, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Bit.Trip Presents Runner 2: Future of the Rhythm Alien, Lego City Undercover and DuckTales: Remastered. So basically every single Wii U game released this year.

The 3DS side was no less packed with titles- The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Fire Emblem Awakening, Pokemon X, Pokemon Y, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney — Dual Destinies, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Rune Factory 4 and Mario and Luigi: Dream Team.

Nintendo may be having a rough time on the business side, but that list above shows us that on the games front, they;ve never been better.

According to Nintendo’s Japanese official website, Nintendo Club has gotten hacked. Nintendo has warned their reward members of Club Nintendo to change their passwords and log-in information as soon as possible due to a recent hack that has happened at Club Nintendo Japan.

Polygon has stated that a number of access errors started to pop out of nowhere since July 2nd and Kotaku has reported that there was 23-thousand unauthorized log-ins between June 9th and July 4th. Thankfully, you don’t need a credit card to join Club Nintendo, so no money was stolen from any of the customers.
