Good news, everyone! Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, after touting an exclusive sticker for the Xbox One during a recent unboxing, has mentioned one more relevant detail for the same on Twitter.

One thing I forgot to mention in the #XboxOne unboxing: 2 AA batteries for the controller are included in the box http://t.co/pruoe1idMo

— Larry Hryb (@majornelson) August 9, 2013

Yes, this is actually a worthy announcement to make separately.

On a deeper note, there are two ways to look at this: Batteries have always been available and will always be available. Internal battery packs are yet to catch on for regular TV remotes, so can we really expect the same for consoles (even though the DualShock 3/4 has the same)?

On the other hand, this is a next generation console. Microsoft may want to backtrack on its DRM policies and put a knife in its plans to become Steam for consoles. But why not internal battery packs? Surely there is a way to make this work?

Unless Microsoft is just trolling us all by assuming that if we didn’t have the internet access necessary to enjoy the console, then we’d certainly need to rely on old-fashioned batteries to get the job done. Regardless, look forward to 2 free AA batteries and an Xbox One this November.

PS3 can send data down to Vita and Vita can display it.

Sony has detailed some Vita features which enables you to use it as a controller for the PS3. Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? Phil Rogers, Europe R&D manager, explained more about this feature to Eurogamer.

“PS3 can send data down to Vita and Vita can display it. You could use the unique features [of Vita] – gyroscope, touch front and back – as a control device for a PS3 game.”

“You can run software on both devices and use the network to sync the game states. And that’s pretty good, because you then have the processing power of PS3 doing that work, Vita [doing] fancy graphics – however you want to do it. You’re not sacrificing the PS3’s CPU to be able to have a rich experience on Vita.”

This is indeed an exciting development, and you can read about it more here.

We all know just how… terrible, terrible the D-Pad of the Xbox 360 controller is, and while I do agree that the all new Xbox 360 S controller looks too sexy and sleek to be a controller, the D-Pad still needs work. You know why? Because clicky buttons FTW, not squishy buttons, and squishy buttons is what the 360 Controller has.

Anyway, Joystiq has revealed via ‘trusted sources’ that Microsoft is developing an all new controller for the Xbox 360, in which the D-Pad, once rotated 90 degrees, will raise up about a quarter of an inch. This new nifty feature is targetted especially at Fighter fans.

Nothing else is known as of now. Not even if this is official or not.

Sony has filed a patent for a new design for a PSP controller.

The patent, which appears to show a PS3 controller hooked up with a PSP, will look to correct many aching hands and sore thumbs by using a console controller for the portable system.

While it looks a tad unwieldy, and most definitely less portable than a regular PSP, it’s a step in the right direction to make many gamers return to Tekken or Worms on the Sony portable.

While the PSPGo already has the option to connect other controllers to it, this patent suggests the feature will be making its way to the other PSP editions. Judging by the image, it looks like the PS3 controller will either be attached directly, or with a hinge.

Most interestingly though, this hints at the option to use a second thumbstick- the most craved feature by fans since the PSP was created.

A three year old Tennessee toddler, Cheyenne Alexis McKeehan, mistook a loaded gun for a Wii controller and killed herself.

Allaboutthegames.co.uk reported that the girl shot herself in the abdomen allegedly after mistaking a semi-automatic handgun for a Wii remote.

The girls stepfather, Douglas Cronberger, had left the .38 calibre weapon loaded on a table in the living room, where the toddler picked it up and shot herself. She was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead later that night. The police are not treating it as suspicious.

The real gun on top, and the Wii peripheral on the bottom. (Thanks to allaboutthegames.co.uk for the image)

Mr Cronberger (who owned the gun) claimed he was asleep at the time, but that the girl’s mother was in the room with her. The mother told authorities that the girl may have believed the handgun was a Wii controller resembling a gun. The stepfather claims that his family had been disturbed by a prowler earlier that night, and that was why the gun was out and loaded.
